Yeah, by "no power", I think Gomez meant in comparison to other fighters he has fought.

To be fair most of us would have needed a baseball bat to stop Gomez on Saturday night!

He was pretty exhausted early.... I don't know if you have seen the fight again, but watch it with the sound down. The commentary was very pro Gomez.

He came forward but wasn't throwing enough punches - even when he got in close he did ALOT of just leaning on Khan and his mouth was gaping open.

The more I see it the more impressed I am with Khan's performance. He was never on the verge of getting stopped, like the commentators were insinuating... he wasn't hurt like he was vs Limond (to either shot).

Murray would get beaten handily. Khan is on a different level to Murray. Far to fast and skillful for someone as slow and falt footed as Murray. Murray doesn't even have the intensity or power to cause a few shaky moments for Khan like Gomez did. Khan takes a lot of stick, because the standards for him are a lot higher after his Olympic performance. If Murray had beaten the kind of opposition Khan has he'd be getting praised by everyone. If I remember it was borrowed cause it was only a 10 round fight

He was presented the belt, held it aloft etc but it was just for the benefit of the TV to make it look like it was a title fight, they just nicked the belt off one of the other fighters on the bill

I'm not so sure, I like Murray but he has looked fornicating dreadful in his last couple of fights and he is fighting people who are probably of a lower caliber than some names on Khans record. I think ether way it'd be a good fight. I think the Meger fight will tell us a lot about where he is at though.

Yawn. The money is there on the table for Khan to get the likes of St Clair and Earl. Guess what? Khan is a pro social force during a politically sensitive time. He is also an Olympic medallist. This brings a shitload of money and this helps Warren bring in the names at the right time. Khan looked like a world class lightweight beating Earl, but is Khan really world class? Not yet. Warren showed him where he was at last Saturday and he has a long way to go.

Murray is fighting Meager - a good name. Winning the British belt will allow him to get the likes of Thaxton, Fewkes, Limond...These are the fights that will make him. John hasn't had that background and doesn't project the same image as Khan, so your comparison is not exactly fair.

Murray has got a lot of talent. Now that the fights are being made for him, he will probably deliver some scintillating performances. And when he does, ppl will start talking about Khan v Murray. It would surprise me if he lost to Meager. The Murray that you see on July 11 should be a vast improvement on the stale looking fighter of the Hamidi bout.

Ask Gomez about Murray's "intensity and power."

he didn't look good in the last 2 fights but it doesn't mean he's a bad fighter. I think we're going to see him at his best with the British title opportunity vs the offensive minded Meager. This fight is perfect for Murray & he'll be able to show off all his infighting skills. IMO he shows why he was voted young boxer of the year a couple of years ago

I wouldnt give Murray a shout against Khan styles.

In a fight they won't be waving Boxrec records at one another. I think Murray is the better boxer. Certainly has showed a lot in sparring, he needs to now show this in his fights.

Gomez is slow but he got to Khan. Murray can close down as fast as Gomez, trust me they've sparred (Gomez-Murray) and Murray is faster at this point.

A win over Meager and the competition looks a little better. It also puts him in line for Thaxton when Jon loses his next Euro shot. Murray could end the year with a win over a man, Thaxton, Khan openly ducked (along with Romanov).

Khan gets stick because he does not come across as likeable when statements are issued in his name. Giving it loads to Thaxton and Romanov then ducking them both was poor. Saying he beat Murray up in sparring when he had never sparred him was also poor, either a sign of a fibber or someone who is not particularly bright.

He also gets stick because he has been put down fairly easily. Credit to Murray, he looked awful versus Hamidi but took flush shots the likes of which Khan seems unable to take.

I would be confident if it came off. Murray needs to look exceptionally poor in his coming fights, whilst still winning, in order for it to happen.

I don't need boxrec records tell me who is better, I've seen plenty of both of them. Murray is one paced and comes forward in straight lines. He lacks power and doesn't have much of a right hand. He would get picked apart by someone as fast as Khan. I'd bet my house on Khan winning that fight and like I said I wouldn't be at all surprised if he loses to Meager.

Khan may not be the most likeable guy, but he's got talent coming out of his arse. Leagues above every other British boxer on the way up.

I dont actualy find Khan that annoying.

Its easy to mix up confidence with arrogance , i dont find him arrogant at all.

Hes great to watch and i hop he does well although he clearly needs to put the brakes on his world title dreams for now.

That's what I think actually. Never really found him to be that annoying. Just a young guy with lots of ambition who wants to be let off the leash. Obviously he's over eager though and needs to work on a few things before he can start to think about fighting the likes of Campbell, Diaz, Casamayor, Pacquiao etc.

I think Khan is still showing improvement, and if looked after right can do something.
He is still a young boy, he should not be thrown in a the deep end for at least another couple of years.
Talk of being youngest ever world champ etc etc is foolhardy, if he continues in the usual FW way I still think he can be a world champion.
I know FW gets a lot of criticism but he does develop his fighters well. If Hatton was being thrown in against the Tyzou(sp) of this world at the time he fought Magee he would not have progressed
Khan needs that treatment to develop him in to a well rounded world class fighter

What he suffers from is a lack of respect for other fighters , dreams of grandeur, and a mouth that writes cheques he cannot cash, get his management too stitch his mouth up before he calls out fighters he don't want too fight , or claim his world champion abilities when he's not even capable of a 50-50 figfht with someone his own size and then he might get back some of the support he has lost.

Fight i would love to see is Khan -- Kasidas simply because then we would see just how good he really is when a very limited boxer like Kasidas knocks him cold.

what, when Khan has been found wanting vs pressure? Found seriously wanting vs a shot pressure fighter, I might add. It goes to show how much Khan's fights have been designed to make him look good, rather than make him get really good.

Murray isn't the fastest of fighters. And Khan is very fast. However, Murray is well schooled, has an excellent boxing brain, and thinks his way into fights. And he slows his opponents down by taking the body. At championship level, we will see his performances improve quite dramatically.

Khan would look much bigger, faster, more powerful early. But if/when Murray gets into it, Khan's size becomes a liability because he drains down to 135 and the body shots - from a natural lightweight - start to break him down.

It's a good fight, AFTER Murray wins the British title, fights whoever the Board throw at him for defence #1. There are so many holes in Khan's record despie him getting massive opportunities. No British title, no European title...so if Murray is as good as I believe he is, there is something for him with or without Khan.

Murray was ready for his British title fight after that excellent beating of Hickman, but seems to have lost motivation when the Thaxton fight wasn't made and went stale due to inactivity and the switch of opponent from Fewkes to Hamidi.

Either a Manchester fighter, or a Mexican, will have the beating of Khan.

If Murray has a boxing brain, then why the HELL does he get hit so much? Learning not to get hit should be the first rule of any beginner's boxing class.

I love it how Murray is judged by 1 performance, Hamidi. Let's not forget he knocked out Ramogoadi in about 4. Ramo is a similar journeyman type who makes good fighters look bad. Look what Ramo did to Munyai and Cookie. That's what Hamidi did to Murray and Simpson.

Murray should have long since left that kind of comp behind but circumstances led to him fighting Hamidi. British title will be a massive motivation to him which will lift his performance.

All should be well when he fights Lee Meager. Meager is a good fighter. Takes a shot well. Brings the pressure. Quite a big lightweight. Fights inside. Will have a big will to win. Lot of assets that most Khan opponents have lacked. Loses his cool when he gets nailed and then his defence goes out the window, does Lee - I think this is where the fight will be won for Murray, a much calmer operator. I expect Murray to be impressive.

He's admitted that with his style he is there to be hit. Obviously he is working on tightening the defence up but when he does get it he cna hold the shot, Khan gets hit and the story is different.

Neither fighter is Willie Pep.

Speed will be a huge factor in this fight - I anticipate a carbon copy of Khan vs Gomez.

According to today's Manchester Evening News, the Murray-Meager winner will face Khan in September. In the same article, it states that Gomez would advise Khan against taking on Murray as he punches too hard. Don't know how reliable this info is and I don't have a link, as my son just brought the newspaper home with him.
