For instance brian yates who ended up with a 13. 84 .3 record with 6 kos knocked out Ernie in two rounds in 95 that was 13 years ago when he was 50 no disrespect as its just an age thing but how do you think a 63 year old is going to do any better against the likes of Dominic Negus or Kevin evans?

No mate, he retired following the spectacular win against the scouser... arrrghhhh... cant remember his name, I was ringside and reported on it too!! Came down to the ring to the tune of "tie my kangaroo down sport" . Last I heard he was going to concentrate on MMA.

It was for a central area cruiser title, just checked, against Tony Moran.

As far as Im aware he was training to fight / fighting in MMA... ?

I'm coming up to 37 and have lost alot of weight, so the thought has entered my head to have a look at this

I'm pretty sure Stegsie who posts on here for VIP Promotions has done some White Collar boxing, so it could be worth speaking to him.

Correct I've done it and loved it.

Really depends on who the promoter is. The last one I had was very well done. Plenty of money spent on it; and it was all done for charity. A cracking night to be honest.

Having said that - I've also seen a couple of appauling ones; where there have been a few real mismatches.

Most shows I know of now seem to be Unlicensed rather than White Collar nowadays....

A friend of mine has started training lads to fight unlicensed, he says unlicensed is the new amateur game for many men as the amateur game really is aimed at young fighters nowdays.

A couple of the lads I know had fights in liverpool around a month ago. Shows pretty much every other week there arent there. Its just getting matched properly isnt it.

If the board really wanted to they could send a person along to these bouts to see who was boxing, its not exactly hard to reconigse a pro boxer, its not as if thwey box with a mask on

true, but who would be able to recognise a pro boxer whos boxing under a different name? Surely they dont recognise every one of the registred boxers by face. Also, how many of these events are held, nationwide, ona weekly basis. Impossible to do. Its hardly Hatton and calzaghe on these bills, its more the guys who are 3-2 and have only fought at the bottom of the order at a sports hall.

Ole Catweazle Ben Hudson used to be on the door at the Pickerill back when I was out and about in Cambridge. Always stood between two fat wild west types, looked like bad guys from the A-Team or Dukes of Hazzard.

It was always 10 stone Ben that looked meanest!!!

It once kicked off in there on a night he wasn't working between my friends and a another group of about 4. I put my drink down but couldn't get at anyone, they were all neatly punching away at each other in pairs in a narrow alcove, two of my friends are big lads, the third is more Graham LeSaux (and looked like him) and filled the available space.

So I just watched. I was pleased anyway, I had a new jumper on and had just bought a fresh pint. Gave me time to drink it before we were asked to leave.

Well, the price of beer down south is scandalous.

Pity Ben wasn't there. I'm told he was a devil in a half pint pot. This was before he was a pro.

Sounds like you have a similar approach to fighting as me DWP. I usually shuffle to the back of the group whilst telling me muckas "I'll make sure we don't get attacked from the rear" then prance about doing some 1930's knuckle down shadow boxing
