Contrary to the notion that Leonard somehow received dozens of gifts, this is the only true robbery in his career. Hearns clearly won. One of the several bad draws of the last twenty years. I do think Ray would have probably won if it had been 15, as Hearns would have probably won the first fight if it had gone 12. But even Leonard thought he lost the fight, and says so today. I wish the decision could somehow be reversed. It's a shame that Hearns is so often thought of as secondary to Leonard and Hagler. Hearns was an amazing fighter, but he fought in a deep era and when you fight the best not everything will go your way; though this should have.

I totally agree. Hearns gets demoted but he's really not that much behind Leonard. I think 15 rounds would always favour Ray and 10 or 12 would favour Hearns. I personally think Hearns could take anyone over say 10 rounds at 147-154

A great rivalry though.
it was 168
But Leonard stipulated monetary fines for every pound over 162 so Tommy came in at 162.

I was surprised this fight was even made Hearns had lost so much of his marquee value because of the recent knockout losses the recent performance. It's no wonder this fight was closer on the scorecards than the first fight between them. The first fight very one sided the determining factor being Tommy's weight.

The rematch was close but I think Tommy shaded it. Certainly not the horror/comedy that was Norris-Leonard and let's face it: Ray Leonard cannot handle an opponent with speed. Anyone care to dissagree?

I thought Hearns came in at 164 but could be wrong. Either way....hooray for Ray. His legacy to the sport of boxing may never be matched
