yeah i don't think much of jeffries in terms of pro success.

looks very basic.

just does what he does well enuff for the amateurs.
Your boy Degale hasn't exactly got a style made for the pros either though has he. The fact is it's hard to judge how any of the British squad will adapt to the pro game, because the amateur training is crap at preparing them for the pros. They are just two different sports these days.

I'm not convinced any of them will make it all the way from what I've seen (granted there is a heck of a long way to go). All of them will move along slowly in the pros in my opinion. None of them have the same kind of talent as Khan had four years ago.

i think degale will do well in the pro's.

he's got a flashy style.

can change it up.

looks a bit of a puncher as well. :box:

i'm also not so sure about how the others will get on.

i agree khan was a better talent than all this lot.

barring degale of course. :D

I think BJS looks the most talented of this lot and the best suited to the pros.

If I were him, although he's young, I'd think what's the point in hanging around for 4 years in the Ams for London 2012 and risk drawing a Cuban or losong out to some dodgy scoring, and start making Hay (or should that be Haye) in the pro ranks :)

Really looking forward to Degale's semi, that Irish lad looks like he means it when he lets his punches go. No tippy tappy bollocks from him! Should be an interesting clash of styles.

And Sutherland, cracking left hook.

BJS will make the best pro out of all the Britsh and Irish squad for me - laden with talent.

I agree that waiting for another 4 years could well be pointless for me - anything can happen between now and London 2012. He should be looking to go pro, if not immediately (and following his suspension he probably will), then certainly within the next couple of years..

Billy Joe will make the best pro out of all the Irish, British fighters out there.

Egan(who I have read won't turn pro) has impressed, despite not actually fighting a truly top ranked opponent yet and DeGale has gone further than I thought he would do(as did Price)but Billy Joe is barely a Senior.
Egan is one of the most experienced fighters at the Games, Price has had well over 100 bouts and DeGale has been around for ages too.

Sutherland will be worth watching as a pro, and he will be involved in some cracking tear ups!

No really outstanding talent in either camp(bar maybe BJS), but the majority would make decent pro's(at least) if and when they turn over.

Egan said before these Championships if he wins a medal he'll turn pro, if not he'd fight at the European's and reassess things.
So he'll be turning pro, as will Sutherland who had made his decision to do so before the Olympic qualifying had even began.

Well done to Degale, I missed the fight but I was impressed with him very much in the semi-final and although I'm disappointed Darren didn't get through at least he has his Bronze medal.

well it wasn't pretty.

Degale WINS THE GOLD!! Outfoxed the cuban in the first two rounds - after which it became very messy as the cuban became desperate and resorted to bum rushing Degale, holding and BITING him. Degale got deducted two points for holding in the third but held on to win 15-13(I think). Ref was pretty poor - let Correa get away with too much rough - housing and holding but who cares! :TU: Can't believe the Cuban bit him though!

just a matter of delivering.

the legend begins here. :D

I, and the danish commentator must have seen a different fight, because it was Degale that got away with way too much holding.

Yes, Degale wouldnt stop holding either, thats why Correa was pushing, he wanted to get Degale off, tbh Degale could have been thrown out(as could Correa for biting)

But this fight was Sattarkhanov-Juarez all over again, im chuffed to bits but im not sure Degale really has it

I'm with you on that one. DeGale should have been DQ - he had plenty of warnings and only got ducked two points?! If I wanted to watch wresting I'd have turned on the WWE. No wonder the amateur game is a joke.

Im glad im not the only one here who though Degale could have been launched, I was watching the fight and thinking I must be going mad

I agree also. Degale nearly threw it all away with the holding and leaning on. Absolutely awful spectacle in all honesty.

However, Degale is Olympic gold medallist and that's what will be remembered. Congrats to him - great achievement

DeGale did resort to holding in the third round and I thought he was going to give it away after all the good work in the previous 2, but he "held" on!

As for Degale being disqualifed...what about the Cuban who BIT him? :o
If anyone should have been thrown out it was the Cuban. NO ONE can argue with that.

If you bite, there should be no warning, no points taken...it should be an automatic disqualifcation.
The Ref was poor.

I am out here working for several boxing figures and this is the worst year ever for Olympic boxing. The standard is terrible.

One person I've been speaking to from the pro world claims hardly any of the Britons will make it as professionals.

He told me weeks ago that Price was nothing and he was proven right. The Italian was decent but he beat a bum like a good fighter should.

The 6ft 9in Chinese super-heavyweight is the one worth going after whatever the result. Don King has already made a move and met a few people out here.

Even though Britain won two broze and a gold, and well done to them and Terry Edwards for keeping them away from his battle with Paul King.

However, Degale fights going backwards, Jeffries walks in straight lines, Price will be good enough for the Prizefighter series.

Price was offered £70k by a London consortium before the games but turned them down. Not a good move.

It is also rumoured that a London promoter through a north east figure offered Bradley saunders a six figure sum before the games win, lose or draw as was Frankie Gavin by Mick Hennessy.

Who was the last Olympic gold medalist to win a proper professional world title?

Sometimes greed is the downfall of boxers or are promoters juts desperate for a star.

allegedly, Mick Hennessy, Frank Maloney and Barry Hearn. Who will be the first to get the cheque book out.

DeGale deservedly won, when it was about boxing he was just too good for the Cuban. Yes he did hold at times, although that was as much a reaction to the biting and roughhousing from the Cuban, the holding only started after that and when DeGale had built up a lead and made the Cuban look poor.

That was one ugly fight, but I think that the inept referee is responsible in great part for not taking points away from both boxers, and letting them get away with basically anything they wanted to do.

This was the first time I saw DeGale, however and I think he showed a great deal of potential to go far as a pro.

Also, watching the post fight interview I see he's the typical guy you either love or love to hate. That (as the old boxing adage goes) puts asses on seats.

that's right.

degale was winning the skills match and the cuban knew he had to come for it.

he beat a cuban in an olympic final.

nuff said tbh.

Fantastic result for DeGale. To be honest I never expected any gold medals for our boxers even before Gavin withdrew but DeGale has risen to the challenge in this tournament and produced some brilliant moments although he has had some sloppy moments like we saw in todays final but he came through. He needs to improve his consistency if he wants to make it big in the pro ranks though.
