As for Fewkes taking on Khan, if anyone didn't know that Fewkes was not up to that task, they do now.

They were in the wrong as well then. :D :-? Seriously, although Fewkes looked hurt, he still had his senses intact. I just don't like fights being stopped like that, because I've seen to many fights change when it looks to be over.

Wow, Fewkes and Khan stopped within a day. I was starting to get bored with boxing.

Fewkes stoppage was bad. Stopping a guy just when he's in trouble. He was clearly on his way out though.

Fewkes not the same at lightweight, as he is at light welter. Weight drain, no power and a determined, rugged foe really did away with him.

Would like to see Murray vs Thaxton & Gethin.

Not before it was stopped, it didn't. Was just about to.

The stoppage was absolutely perfect. All that was going to happen was John was going to get punished more - he had no chance of winning and was saved for another day.

fecking typical

2 fights on the trot, Gethin has won against a more-touted fighter

he has upset the odds and took the fight to someone

and he has stopped him. no dodgy decisions, no equivocation.

and on the boxrec site NOT ONE POSTER seems to bother talking about Gethin. 16 posts or something, all of them about the loser who couldn't make a weight he isn't even known to be 'too big' for

just like last time on here it was all about Sidique after their fight and noone gave respect to gethin it was all about Sid. now its all about Fewkes lack of motivation diet or whatever the feck

diet/motivation - sheer professionalism- are part of boxing. you can't run some kind of parallel universe where Fewkes would have beaten gethin if only all of a sudden he didn't turn into an eejit who gets his weight wrong.

and on that score as well as inside the ropes Gethin battered Fewkes.

well done Martin the quiet man, keep on keeping on mate and let people ignore and under-rate you.

btw, much as i like martin i think Murray's a better version of him. should they fight, IMO, Murray wins mid-late stoppage.

maybe then you will all talk about Gethin, seeing as losers get all the ink and attention round here

thanks, i mean i know i have a bee in my bonnet cos mart's a black country/midlands lad, it just strikes me as weird that twice on the trot he's beaten pretty touted fighters and no fecker recognises that fact. seemingly.

is it that he hasn't been on telly very often? noone knows about him etc? or that his eyebrows are really freaky? that' it, it's his eyebrows. I have discovered the truth. the boxrec forum is eyebrowist.

It's definitely because of his eyebrows. Do you know thismodernlove? People take the piss out of him and it's only because his eyebrows are freaky.

Gethin has more than deserved a crack at Murrays lightweight title after his last 2 wins and performances, he loosely reminds me of a British Kelly Pavlik (I said loosely). I think Gethins style is suited to the 12 round distance as he's more of a plodder than a flashy 'up on your toes' boxer (from what I've seen of him, which isn't alot), he'll still be dangerous late on in the fight and will wear boxers down over the longer distance.

Gethin is the type of boxer that Khan would benefit from sparring/fighting as he's not going to be KO'd from a fart and will still be throwing leather til the final bell

Bring on the British BIG boys for Gethin :D

Excuse me 'Counter-puncher' but my post was pro-Gethin, and I made a point of commenting on this becuase there does seem to be an obsession with making excuses for favoured boxers. Not just on Boxrec but generally IMO.

Gethin won fair and sqaure and should get all the credit he deserves, namely a British title shot.

Very solid performance from Gethin. He's earned his chance to challenge Murray for the British title.

If Fewkes wants to learn a thing or two about getting on with the job in hand he needs to look no further than his opponent.

Gethin just gets on with it and a fight with Murray will be a another British title cracker and I can't wait for it to happen.

my apologies BUTCH you were a notable exception 8)

chambers- i agree gethin is probably a good longer-distance fighter, i do just wonder though if that's Murray's game also and that he's just that bit better. we shall see, I hope.

also very much agree that gethin would be perfect to bring for khan to spar with, that is, if you're looking at it from khan's p of v. however i see one thing wrong with that- you're under-rating gethin, khan should be brought in to HIS camp to spar with HIM

 I wasn't suggesting that Gethin should go and be his sparring partner just that Khan would benefit from it if he was.

I've been impressed with Murray for the majority of his career, but especially so in his last outing where he ran over Lee Meager (who's been a class act round the British scene) which I predicted him to lose a close decision

I'd undoubtedly be supporting the local Gethin if he got his shot at the British title, but Murray would quite rightly be starting as a decent favourite - it's no foregone conclusion though and Murray would have to box to the best of his ability and pace the fight well to beat Gethin (The Bescot Brawler). Excellent clash of styles if the fight does happen!

Is Gethin under the Maloney banner? because Maloney seems keen on promoting in the Midlands, so he may push for the fight in the hope of bringing a British title to the area

gethin is promoted by PJ Rowson but it may be in conjunction with maloney, like you say it seems maloney is trying to push the midlands fighters

i loved what maloney said on his presser- we are knowledgeable fans in the midlands and stay to watch all the fighters, not just our own man...

not entirely my experience but has a ring of truth to it 8)

I hear what you are saying CP – Gethin has flown in under most people’s radars. He comes from a fighting clan and whilst most people will have seen his older brothers scrapping over the years, Martin is far and away the most talented of the bunch.

He has proved it on tv in back to back fights.

I have seen several of his off-tv outings at venues like Dudley Town Hall and remember once over hearing members of his family discussing his career at the venue’s bar; they said that he would be a good future opponent for Amir Khan down the line and I remember thinking that was a bit far fetched, even for members of his own family.

All of a sudden it looks a far more realistic prospect and I am sure Gethin would give Khan the sort of fight he would learn and benefit from on his return from his devastating loss.

Good luck to the Walsall tough nut – he has proved that hard work, talent and self belief can take you a long way towards achieving your dreams in boxing.

He is a great example to all young pros and aspiring ams alike.

Didn't realise he was with PJ Rowson, but he'd have been my second guess. If Maloney doesn't have options on Gethin then PJ should be on the blower to Mick Henessey asap IMO

Fair play to Maloney for saying us Yam Yams are knowledgable fans, but he obviously doesn't drink in the same pubs as me :D

chambers i am pretty sure hennessy has options on dean Harrison (he got the wrong yam yam maybe? lol), something like he co-promotes any televised fight Dean has.

so its not out of the question PJ would share a fighter with someone else.

oh, for Tom Podmore to come and clear it up my memory's not the best.

i don't think the midlands is exactly fertile ground for inventive nicknames chambers

dean 'deano' harrison, etc....

macca's 'black country bodysnatcher' is as good as it gets :-?

anyway martin is the anti-hype fighter, it suits him to be the Man With No Nickname. its a nickname in itself...

Pleck ABC sounds right
