Someone is going to have to fill in the blanks for me here, but I remember reading that Benny Perret and Emile Griffith apparantly had a strong personal hatred of each other, due in part to one making comments about the others sexuality. they fought three bouts, the last tragically ending in Perret's death- watching the footage, it was a brutal finish, and remarkable (by today's standards) that it wasn't stopped.

Griffith claimed he wasn't the same fighter after that, although he did box professionally for another 15 years- ending his career against Alan Minter.

David Haye v Mark Hobson - the build up on the websites and then the press conference got very heated - ufnortunately Hobson then pulled out a couple of days before the fight due to shingles or something like that - for as long as it lasted that would have been a good fight!!!

And some oxygen-starved types actually thought Hobson would beat Haye...

Lewis-Bruno did get a bit nasty, with Lewis calling Bruno and Uncle Tom. I remember Bruno trying to refute the allegation by turning up on Normski's "Dance Energy" with his hat on backwards and going "Bo! Bo! Bo!" etc.

Leonard Duran got nasty first time out -- so much so that Leonard elected to fight toe-to-toe for much of the fight. The big hate fest of recent times, though, was probably DLH against Vargas. They really hated eachother.

Rudy Goldstein should've stopped it. If memory serves, Benny got his arm stuck between two ropes so the ref assumed he was taking the punches fine. It was something like 30 unanswered head shots before he went down. Can't watch the footage.

Tyson did a similar thing with Biggs. Can't remember the exact quote but he implied he could have got him out of there in a couple of rounds but kept him up so he could administer a slow, painful, career-ending beating... which to all intents and purposes is what he did.

loved the interviews after, they had created a great deal of mutual respect and each fighter gave the other one a great deal of credit....

I may be wrong here as I wasn't even born at the time but wasn't there a hateful rivalry between Duran and Benitez or was it just typical pre-fight trash talk?

Supposed to be very heated and the trash started way before they fought, Benitez at 1 of Duran's fights and wife talk I believe. Duran said something about Leonard's wife too.

How good was Geg Haugen? I have only seen one fight and the was with Chavez and he just looked like a rookie amateur.

I have no idea how he got beat Camacho.
