Hated Each Other!!

Post by Mick the Mechanic »

Replying to a previous post has set me thinking, anyone got favourite examples of fighters who could'nt stand each other, even after they fought.
Sort o like Benn and Eubank claimed to back in the day.
I always thought Barrera and Morales but maybe they speak these days....

Didn't Pazienza and that Rosenblatt have a bit of a nasty rivalry back in the 90's

Also I'm pretty sure DLH and Vargas hate each other too.

David Haye v Mark Hobson - the build up on the websites and then the press conference got very heated - ufnortunately Hobson then pulled out a couple of days before the fight due to shingles or something like that - for as long as it lasted that would have been a good fight!!!

:D :D

I had some Great times educating Chris Aston  on the merits of David Haye :D

That debate went on for years and we still never got a fight at the end of it (due to injuries to Hobson and Haye in the build ups to the 2 slated fights)

I think people are confusing genuine hatred between each other and fight hype talk.

It's like the rivallry between Ali and Frazier was a hype thing to Ali but Frazier took it personal and has spent all his years since then hating Ali who has tried many of times to make up but Frazier refuses.

I haven't seen anything to suggest Witter hates Hatton, all the spiteful talk "I don't like him" "I don't want him to get a big payday" "I think it's funny watching him squirm" has come from Hattons mouth, all Witter has said is that if they fought he'd knock him out which is what most fighters say to hype fights.

I may be wrong here as I wasn't even born at the time but wasn't there a hateful rivalry between Duran and Benitez or was it just typical pre-fight trash talk?

If Hatton stood between me and a serious amount of money that would set me and my family up for life then I'd hate Hatton, as I reckon Witter does.

When Hagler fought he did so with a genuine dislike of his opponents, i think he's mellowed some in getting older , but here's what was said in the eighties about it.

''You know how fighters two, three years after they fight become friends,'' says Bob Arum, Hagler's promoter. ''Not Marvin. Believe me, Marvin Hagler still hates every one of his opponents. If [ Vito ] Antuofermo comes into the room, he won't talk to him. Duran? Forget it. [ Mustafa ] Hamsho, he can't stand. It's not for effect. With him, it carries over forever. If he sees Tommy Hearns, he won't go near Tommy. 'Get him the out of my face. What the f*ck is he doing here?' 'Marvin, the fight's over.' 'The hell it's over.' ''

Your all missing a good one!

Think about it... Both Brits.... No? :??

Eastman Vs McCracken.

I seem to remeber McCracken booting Eastman in a ringside interview! He seemed to really hate our Howard!

Am I mistaken or did McCracken end up training Eastman?

Bruno v Lewis was quite a nasty build up between the 2, don't know if they would speak now.

Youre right. McCracken did boot Eastman at ringside following Eastman's defeat of Mark Baker (after Eastman had shoved McCracken). Although Eastman is from Guyana. Plastic Brit really.

And yes, McCracken did later train Eastman.

But the incident at ringside was as a result of a hype job by sky and their efforts to wind up both men ahead of their European title fight.

The reality is that McCracken sparred with Eastman loads in the years prior to this incident and got on pretty well with him. McCracken dismisses the incident as fuk-all of note.

Yep I remember their first fight when Vinny went psycho while Dana was trapped against the ropes and the ref Tony Orlando stepped in to stop it and ended up getting smashed to the canvas by Vinny.

I think we are talking dislike with passion rather than hate. They say you have to love somebody before you can hate them. The sort of thing that happens when a wife/GF takes you for every penney and laughs at you, or when you find out they have been sleeping with someone else. When love turns to hate its one of the worst feelings you can have. Sure, we can dislike people, even strongly dislike to the point of starting a fight with them, but nothing compares to that of an acromonious marriage breakdown. We can be bastards too, I have seen maybe half a dozen cars totally wrecked by women, not just scratching every panel but hit with a hammer as well. When true love turns to true hate its a dangerous situation.

haha yeah that's right... don't know why they started hating each other. Weren't they from the same state or something?

Weirdly Rosenblatt defeated an ageing Terry Norris, stopped the shell of Howard Davis and had technical draws in 2 of his last 3 fights. Then he just disappeared. Surely in these days he could've got some world title shot?

Correct. They fought outside a nightclub. Peden and Campbell is another. Aslo Tarver and RJJ.

What about Hagler and Leonard?
