Very true

I`ve yet to see Gamboa given the jelly legs Khan has had when he has been put down.
And gamboa has fought guys at his weight .. Khan mostly has not.

Gamboa will be knocked out because he fights wrecklessly.

Thats correct about Khan, but it also highlighted his total lack of chin .. he was wobbled by a jab :o
Gamboa does fight wrecklessly at times .. but he has never been KO`ed so the statement is nonsense.
charlieb wrote: So what does that tell you?

Birds of a feather. By the time these two are in sight of each other Khan will probably be the different animal he's now trying to mould and Gamboa will probably have been KO'd and have had to make the adjustments to his style that Khan has.
Khan and gamboa are a couple weights apart, and I`d guess they`ll stay that way throughout their careers.
But how can you seriously speculate that Khan will be successful in changing his style and gamboa will have been knocked out? as of yet there has been no solid proof that any of these is going to happen.
Khan may have looked better in his last fight, but the opponent was brought in for that exact reason, Khan has always looked good against that level of opposition.

And, as said, Gamboa has never been given jelly legs by any of his flash knockdowns.
Khan might not be successful at changing his style, he might get flattened again before he has a chance to build any kind of momentum. I said he'd probably be able to overhaul his style, that's based partly on the fact that he's under Warren (tempered matchmaking) and partly due to his incredible natural talent.

Gamboa's on the fast track to a title, fortunately he's fighting in a division thats pretty vacant because when he's in against world class guys he's going to get KO'd sooner rather than later. He's incredibly talented, all the speed and power you could want, which might be enough against some of the very best he meets but the law of probability leans heavily toward his chin (or total lack of defence, if you prefer) failing him against the likes of Lopez, Marquez or Vasquez... I'd also give Luevano a good shot at finding the right openings to put him away.

I just feel that Gamboa more aces up his sleeve. Sure he is getting caught and put down, but they aren`t heavy knockdowns and on every occasion he has sprang straight up and resumed what he was doing .. kinda like Calzaghe, he has recently been knocked down, maybe part of that could be because he too is facing better skilled fighters, but like Gamboa he resumed what he was previously doing .. and Calzaghe has a granite jaw.

Khan too has been on a fast track to a world title, though he has been given jelly legs even by the smaller weight non-puchers he has faced ..

To say Gamboa will get ko`ed sooner rather than later when he gets moved in with a world champion level fighter is pure guess work at the moment .. there really is no solid proof either way.
But Khan has been KO`ed sooner rather than later .. so to say he too will get found out at world level isn`t really so much as guess work .. as stating a fact.

Both guys are tallented - no doubt.
But Gamboa has great skill, solid punch and at moment decent chin .. but a painfull defence.
Khan has good skill, average punch and the worst chin I can recall of any hyped young prospect.

Difference is this...

Khan HAS been KOed

Gamboa HASN'T

Khan has been KOED against a nobody

Gamboa has been floored by fighters with better records than Khan!

At this point I think Gamboa chin is more similar to Hamed, gets caught because he lunges in and lacks defence, therefore will suffer flash knockdowns but ultimately doesn't get seriously hurt.
Unfortunately Khans chin looks far weaker, it will take a good fighter to get hold of him, prob no-one in Britain is capable of that but seems an accident waiting to happen. You won't put muscle on his chin, but he is super talented and lets hope he can translate some of that talent into defence

True, it hasn't happened... yet.

The jury's still out on just how good Prescott might be, you cant really say he's a nobody in terms of ability (just yet), he could prove to be several levels above anyone Gamboa's faced... might even be better than Gamboa himself. I dont think he is, but that's the privelage an undefeated record affords him.

Coco - Not sure I buy the Naz comparison, perhaps in terms of their phenomenal offence, but there's been a much more fragile look about Gamboa when he's been put over.

Nope, you're wrong. Maybe you don't know about Prescott but some of us do. I've seen him fight like three times before Khan and he's always been good but nothing special. He can't even be compared to Gamboa. Btw, if he fights Khan again, Khan will probably easily win. I know because I seen both fighters, Khan is quality and Prescott is soso. Prescott could win because Amir's chin has some serious issues and Prescott is still a big puncher but odds are still with Khan.

Concerning Prescott recent history, he had a hard time with Richard Abril, who was really a Cuban nobody. Even by Abril beeing lightweight, I'd put my money on Gamboa if he ever fights Abril.

Everyone will have a chance to stardom by facing hot prospects. Prescott got his chance and was lucky enough to win. Same thing could happen to Gamboa, being beaten by an inferior fighter. At the end of the day, boxing is still a sport and you could be the greatest on a bad day and lose your fight vs a bum.

EDIT: Btw, I know that by seeing a fighter only three times you don't completely know him... but it gives you a good idea. I wouldn't really say that Prescott is a lot weaker than Gamboa's opposition but from what I seen I think Ramirez, Jimenez, Seeger and probably Gonzalez (which sucked against Gamboa because he was outclassed but looked good before) are a bit better than Prescott (considering weightclasses)

Are you serious? You honestly think Khan wins easy if they rematched now? Maybe a few years down the road, perhaps, depending on how Khan progresses, but if they fought now I couldn't seen anything but a repeat, maybe it would go a little deeper but Prescott would find him eventually.

Which are the other 2 that you've seen? And where did you see them, got any links?

I think your view of Gamboa and his comp is a little rose tinted, they were better than Khan's comp prior to Prescott but I certainly wouldn't rate them as highly based on his win over Khan.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Gamboa's an accident waiting to happen. Somebody's going to catch him now that he's heading for legit titles.

Khan didn`t show he had anything on Prescott when they fought ... so I can`t make sense how some people would favour khan to win in a rematch - and to do so easilly

At no stage was Prescott made uncomfortable, he didn`t land a lucky punch .. fact is he had enough in his jab to rock Khan to his boots.

Its sad really that I read DeGale stating he will be atleast british champion within 18mths :witzend: .. will these olympians never learn :shame:

This is an answer to both charlieb and tonyevs.

charlieb:

I know I said Khan would win easy... maybe not thaaat easy but I think he could do it very well because he is a lot more skilled than Prescott. If he can get away from that killer punch I see no problem with him winning easily.

Concerning the two other fights of Prescott I'm sorry I can't provide any link. It was before he fough Abril, I wanted to know more about him and I found two fights online. I don't even remember vs who it was, I was concentrated on him and he looked normal. I remember before the fight with Abril I was sure it was going to be a close fight because both of them weren't all that but they weren't that weak too.

My view on Gamboa's cometition isn't biaised at all. I'm not comparing them to PacMan, I'm comparing them to Prescott and all of those I named accomplished way more than Prescott and were more skilled. You only judging him on his win over Khan which was actually one punch and then another when Khan was already out. Any boxer with good punching power could do that to Khan if they had the chance. Other than that, you always been talk shitting about Gamboa so this isn't worth discussing. You don't like Gamboa, so you discredit his opposition.

tonyevs:

How could he show anything when the fight didn't even last one round? To answer your question, people favour Khan because people know what he is capable of. Prescott fought extremely well that round, will he do it again in the future? Who knows... As I said, before that fight we was not fighting that well.

Now this being said, you have to consider that Gamboa and Khan are red hot prospect. They are bountys. Anyone who faced them trained as they never did before because they wanted THAT CHANCE of beating the mainstream player. So Prescott probably got better (by training a lot more) when he got his chance vs Khan. The same way Ramirez, Gonzalez and Jimenez did when they faced Gamboa.

What do you mean I dont like Gamboa? I think he's phenomenal, offensively.

I haven't 'talked shit' about him, I love vunerable fighters who are prepared to take risks, I've already said that he has enough natural ability to perhaps overcome the toughest of adversaries, but sooner or later, at the top level, he's going to get stopped. That's the flipside to his wreckless, fan-friendly style.

I'll watch any fight that Gamboa and Khan are involved in, I like them both, but I think to point to an imaginary gulf between the two is laughable, they are mirror images.

As for the Prescott fights, I've scoured the net for them and outside of the Abril and Khan fights, it's dry as a bone out there. The WBVA has none of them, same goes for the other main sources, nobody, as far as I can tell, has any footage on this guy outside of the fights mentioned.
