The programme about Kirkland Laing for Setanta was one of the most dishonest examples of "journalism" I've ever seen. Bunce pretended Laing was a mystery man who'd disappeared, when in fact he was living in the same estate in Hackney he'd been in for decades and hanging out at all his old haunts. He was even on the same phone number and returned Bunce's call and arranged an interview. But Bunce was determined to play the Sam Spade detective. Total embarrassment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oY_1iNtpb1E
I remember that doc, but had no idea it was all fiction. Did the missing person plot element mean that Bunce could enjoy a lot more screen time, and use boxing fans' interest in Kirkland Laing and his accomplishments to raise his own profile? I have no problem with a writer making themselves a feature in a fighter's story if they're a personality and talent like Norman Mailer or Hunter S. Thompson, but... Steve Bunce?
Just think how much more valuable that Laing documentary would be, if all the Bunce material was erased and replaced with footage of the Gifted One answering more questions about his fights.

Yes but then you would’ve missed Steve buying Kirkland a Stella and drinking it on a bench with him
