Boycott Bunces Book
Boycott Bunces Book
What a cynical and arrogant nasty man.
Have any of you read his boxing news interview. Its one big two fingered salute to forum posters and his hated "internet". I would say 80% of the interview is about that.Although he seems to think the internet started in 2008-2009.
Its clear Bunce knows he gets paid for doing nothing that anyone on here couldn't do and it makes him deeply insecure and to start lashing out at all fans or anyone who dares give him constructive feedback or criticism.
Half of his boxing news interview is about how he mutes and blocks everyone on twitter and the perverse pleasure he gets knowing they are sending him critiques and feedback but he wont be reading it and they don't know he hasn't read it.
Than take a look at todays Independent and he has a piece about Errol Christie which is actually a shameless plug for his book. Which he mentions three times.
Some commenter on there has asked bunce if he will be donating any of his proceeds of his book to christies funeral costs.
None of this would matter except when this arsehole was out on his ear from setanta and with no income coming in and no job he used the sheep on the forum communities for his shameless bring back bunce campaign......he used those sheep.....to get back on TV and since than he has gone out of his way to insult and abuse the same people, all people on boxing forums....talk about insecure.......it all boils down to , he knows we all know as much as him about the sport of boxing and have followed the sport as long as him in most cases.......all his baloney about contacts is BS anyone can contact any boxer on twitter and get a interview.Times have changed

I like Buncey. He's part of the fabric of British boxing for me.
I'd imagine that having any kind of public profile at all renders social media a complete fvcking minefield full of pricks wanting to hurl abuse at you so it's unsurprising that he'd block a lot of people

Re: Boycott Bunces Book
I haven't read the article yet, but I can certainly confirm he is an egotistical self centred tool.
He used to come into the Fitzroy Lodge a bit to see Mick. He would ignore everyone else like he was some big shot, and would never acknowledge anyone even when Mick talked to someone else. He would just ignore them. Then when he got what he wanted he would walk out.
Once was at a bar at a show, on his own. I just said hi and told him I used to box for the lodge briefly... he looked down his reddened alcoholic nose, and sneered 'used to ey'.... and turned around.
Honestly I don't know were he gets this idea that he's some sort of big man. He's just a shouty, fat, bald, drunk who dresses badly and tries to dominate any fighter he interviews with his high pitched excitable hyperbole as he think it's all about him.
I'm disgusted to read how he referenced his own book 3 times in a piece about Errol.

He was a prick on here when he used to post, and I didn't feel that it was at all a case of him retaliating to abuse.CaptainSpacerod wrote:I like Buncey. He's part of the fabric of British boxing for me.

He very much had a high and mighty, disparaging attitude, and I lol at those who think he's some sort of man of the people just because he's fat, bald, and shouts.
Adios

That old celebrity being harassed by fans thing doesn't apply to Bunce. Bunce was a troll long before twitter started.CaptainSpacerod wrote:I like Buncey. He's part of the fabric of British boxing for me.

Bunce is the difference between the modern sexy matchroom/sky set up and the dated low rent low grade allegedly.
If Fffrank Wwarren were to have a revamp of the channel and pay for a decent studio and new presenters and pundits and bring his set up into the 2010s and away from the early 80s and chas n dave bunce n lillis....it could be something special. He should hire someone fresher like Koogan as the new bunce , initially as a pundit.

lol you know as mad as that suggestion is about Kugan taking Buncey's job,it could in some weird, fvcked up world actually work...somehow.boxingknockout wrote:I hope you're being sarcastic about Koogan!Bricks wrote:That old celebrity being harassed doesn't apply to Bunce. If as Bricks says Frank was to bring everything up to date and try and get this new "era" reaching a new younger audience then having someone like Kugan and the potential followers and new young audience he has could be brilliant for BN and BT if he brought some of them with him.It would open up a lot of new content for BT to show during fight cards (interviews, visiting the gyms etc) the things that BT might only do once for a fighter on fight week with lillis,Kugan has years of archived interviews to refer back and show, again a great filler for TV and new content during televised cards.
Just as an example,Bunce and Jones are in the studio discussing Terry Flanagans up coming fight and they have access to all this content they can flick back and forth from instead of just talking about the fight, they can go back and show us an interview with Terry from 4 or 5 years ago etc.
I dont even know where im going with this but it sparked a thought so im just jotting it down here lol.The only problem being Kugan is shit in front of the mic and knows fvck all about boxing..which I suppose is quite a big problem
I guess the happy medium (not for me but for attracting a new younger potential audience)would be having this content available to them, having Kugan as part of the setup maybe doing the ringside interviews that Macintosh is currently doing and keeping the knowlegeable guys like Bunce and Lillis in the Studio but they all hate each other so its never going to happen
Re: Boycott Bunces Book
To add my tuppence worth I disliked Bance from the moment I first saw his fat face prattling on Setanta.
There's been times where I've come round to him, like when he commentated on the Browne-Chagaev fight I thought he was spot on and very funny in his piss take of the whole thing.
But he's definitely got that Alan Partridge factor: an ageing gaff prone talentless "celebrity" that you can't really understand how he got the gig in the first place, trying desperately to somehow stay relevant.

Apparently Sainsbury's are currently selling Bunce's new book at half price in hardback, my dad said he'd get me a copy next time he's in (he knows I don't have the money to shop in Sainsbury's
).
Despite the intent of this thread, I'll be happy to receive it. I don't really care what an author is like as a person tbh, I'll judge the book on its own merits.

I'm a big fan of Bunce and think he gets slated unfairly. His book The Fixer was a good read and I think he makes a difficult job look very easy with his TV presenting.
The only personal contact I had with him was when I saw him on his tour, at the Irish centre in Leeds. On stage he was his usual persona, off-stage at the bar afterwards he had time for everyone. You take as you find and he seemed a good bloke to me.

Also, now that I think of it, I remember how Bunce needlessly menaced that guy who tweeted that, according to other sources, Jones-Lebedev II was cancelled (and it was). Totally bizarre the way he acted....

You make some great points here - but you also hit the nail on the head. Kuggan is awful in front of the camera and lame in his interaction / questions.LancashireLoyal wrote:lol you know as mad as that suggestion is about Kugan taking Buncey's job,it could in some weird, fvcked up world actually work...somehow.boxingknockout wrote:I hope you're being sarcastic about Koogan!Bricks wrote:

He's carved out a great niche as a YouTube interviewer and worked hard and I appreciate that. I just don't think he's a front man for Boxallegedly. Maybe a guest
Re: Boycott Bunces Book
Hey kugan can be an arsehole....but at least hes our arsehole....
Hes learnt a bit of self deprecation with the whole boente affair and how bad it made him look.
But the big thing is....the guy lets his interviewees talk ....the fury and eddie hearn stuff he has done has been amazing for that reason alone.
and hes not a brown nosed yes man like bunce....
Lol u can replace kugan with any number of guys out there. Hell even one of us.....but Kugan I feel would be adept at filling the long hours that a whole nights fight bill demands

I think you greatly overrate his knowledge of boxing, wit, ability to improvise in conversation, ability to keep a long show going all night, in fact every quality needed to make it in that job.Bricks wrote:Hey kugan can be an arsehole....but at least hes our arsehole....

Bunce can't write to save his life anyhow. His schizophrenic disjointed ramblings are like someone yakking away in a pub and jotting it down on the back of a beer mat.
Re: Boycott Bunces Book
I'm going to give it a go. Appreciate others seem to have had some very different experiences, but he was entirely supportive when I wrote Kirkland Laing's biography.

But yes, if the book gets good reviews I will buy it, regardless of my feelings about Bunce, as there are few decent boxing books released every year. As long as the tone is not too obnoxious. I guess I will get an Amazon preview then make my decision.

Re: Boycott Bunces Book
Can't believe the vitriol towards Buncey.
Fair enough in the story boxingknockout recounts he was a bit rude and it's understandable if that clouds his opinion of him but to play devil's advocate how many times a day does Buncey get a stranger coming up to him wanting to talk about boxing - maybe he was tired, maybe he was having a bad day etc. We've all been rude to people in our time.
His presenting style may grate on some but at least he's being himself. I think he's a refreshing change from the identikit media trained sports presenters spouting cliche after cliche that dominate the airwaves these days. He knows his stuff and he's passionate about the sport and he brings a touch of humour to proceedings and his ability to keep a long show running smoothly for hour after hour is a rare talent indeed.
I also disagree with MightyWarrior's opinion of his writing. I haven't read any of his books but I've read and enjoyed his columns for years. He tells some brilliant tales that many casual fans like me probably won't have heard about, one that springs to mind is a furious Larry Holmes diving off a stretch limo to attack Trevor Berbick. You won't get Jeff Powell or Gareth A Davies writing stuff like that.
He's a broadcasting treasure for me is Buncey to rank alongside greats like John Motson and Aggers.
