Yeah I saw that, apparently Sunny told the corner to pull him out and some think that makes him a quitter whereas I think is was the wise thing to do considering how it was going and the injuries he had.

Wise thing to do but there are warriors like Joe frazier, eubank Sr, Mike bisping etc who will never ever give up in a fight and many bear the hallmarks of battle year later. Bisping for example only has one eye. He was also choked unconscious due to refusing to tap out but the likes of mcgregor are tapping immediately. There's levels when it comes to heart.

Fine line between stupidity and bravery.

Dubois got called a quitter for basically doing the same as Sunny - fighting for many rounds with a facial injury & then deciding enough was enough.

I don’t think either should be labelled a quitter but if you called Dubois one after the Joyce loss then by your own standards you should think Sunny is one.

Boxing is regarded by the fans as the toughest of all sports. Wisely or unwisely, going out on your shield is the expectation. Top boxers are expected to be braver than the average man.

If Lewis Hamilton developed a fear of driving fast and wouldn't go over 90mph, and slowed to 30mph taking a corner F1 fans would be slating him ... Sure none of them, or any of us, would be brave enough to drive at 220mph or corner at 70mph because it's almost suicidal, but that the sports expectations.

Yeah I get that but easy for us armchair fans to tell someone whose eye socket has fractured that he should continue through it to prove how tough he is. It could have ended his career had it taken more damage. Only Sunny knows how bad it was, I doubt he would’ve quit had it not been that bad.

I'll have to watch it back but it didnt seem like he said no more in the corner, although they did wave it off quite quickly after he returned there.

He was busted up, nose looked gone as well as the eyes, and had just gone face forward onto his hooter after the knockdown. He continued but I was hoping the corner would pull him out anyway as he was on a one way street without the power to turn it around.

Even if he did say he'd had enough, that's different to what dubois did. sunny got up and was ready to take what was coming while the round was live. to question edwards' heart after that display is ridiculous - one of the bravest displays of the year once the tide had turned

I think it's fair to say I can't stand Edwards, but to call him a quitter after taking so much punishment is nonsense.
It was a bloody brave effort and just to look at the state of his face must tell you that .

He leaned in and said something in his cornerman’s ear and then the cornerman turned and waved it off so looks like he said he’d had enough.

Indeed. I was actually impressed with Sunny in a way I never expected. Bam sounded respectful and referenced Sunnys speed and cleverness.

In terms of people saying he fought the wrong fight, what he said summed it up, Bams feet and lead hand are just too good to fight a moving fight against.

Bam is the nightmare’s nightmare- a very good technician-pressure fighter is a nightmare at the best of times, add the southpaw angle to that and it’s just worse.

With Sunny deciding to 'retire' at the end of the round and avert a big KO loss which would look worse, going forwards, it was damage limitation (well, as much as possible, by that point).

He was very brave, tbh but his all round skills were a level below and there is no shame in that. He tried hard but his lack of power hurt him a lot. Can't do much about that.

I was also surprised, given Rodriguez's reach advantage, he was able to match Sunny for speed, which I think surprised Sunny.

Plus he was smart enough to ask his corner to stop it. A TKO at the end of the round doesn't look as bad as it probably would have been if he had continued and makes him looks 'less damaged' for future fights and purses.

He fell sort, but showed guts not hiding afterwards, not blaming others, and still doing interviews. Very humble.

He'll come again.

You're right, I watched it back and that's what happened....missed it on first viewing.

I wonder if not having the stool to sit on, and thus be able to get a proper rest and also a mental break from being on his feet, played any part in Sunnys decision making.

Having a stool seems a no brainer

Good man, big fan of Sunny now, I wasnt before, but as a boxing fan how can you not be?

He didn’t stink the joint out as a lot of people feared, he turned it into a fight of the year contender

fascinating early rounds, to see them vie for dominance, before Bam’s power proved too much

Sunny fought the wrong fight, but maybe he had to.

He took his licks like a true champion. His corner stopped it because he couldn’t see, and you can’t argue with that, unless you’re a complete bonebrain. They did the right thing, unlike that new hot shot dumbass in the chief main support, who let his outclassed man get completely smashed.

And the pete mcgrail fight….what a sensation. They were calling him world champion level, then 30 seconds later he was sleeping like a baby - incredible

looks like he’s got everything to be a world champion, except maybe, I hate to say, a chin? That fight encapsulated exactly everything that makes boxing the greatest sport in the world.

definitely, nobody needs a brave blind person. Smith's corner are like a family, no way would they let him get irreparable damage.

can only imagine the pain of 8 rounds with that eye.

sunny just came up against a much better boxer and will no doubt come again and win a belt .
I am not a fan - dont like his antics and gobby manner but he has talent in the ring - just not as much as Bam who has great feet and what about the reach for a small guy ! arms like a baboon

Spot on.
Dubois got dog’s abuse, as did his trainer, even though Dubois was actually ahead.
Edwards fought the wrong fight, got battered and had to tell his trainer to pull him out.

That was a fight well worth watching.
Sunny was gutsy as they come, and Bam was just a level above him.
