Especially Hughie. He's shite.

This will bomb on PPV. I think Hennesey thinks because it is a world heavyweight title it will be a massive fight.

But that is not the case as covered throughout the thread.

Casuals only care about one heavyweight and that is Joshua and they see him as the only legit champion at the weight.

Lol, so after nothing & the fight drawing close the Promoter decides to make an announcement about an announcement, and even gets that wrong.

It's not just casuals though - it's everyone.

There is an argument Wilder should be considered #1 at the weight because of how long he's been world champion. Fury perhaps, but he's pretty soon going to have been inactive for two years, he doesn't have a licence and is, in his own words, retired.

Parker is champion almost on a technicality. The aforementioned three would destroy him.

I admire their commitment to incompetence.
Now that Parker's purse has apparently been paid into escrow will the fight actually happen or are we just waiting for an injury?

I wonder if the announcement is more to do with the Furys than Hennessy. Mick hasn't said anything yet, and whilst his promotion of this fight has been poor they routinely seem to be under the impression that they can say what they like and it should be believed.

Some of the stuff about Tyson at Wembley was fanciful to say the least.

Thanks for that. Hadn't seen it confirmed by Parker's team. Now that they have paid the purse hopefully the fight actually happens. Interesting that they have dropped the PPV price in NZ though. Surely there should be more buzz about this fight in NZ as well?

Well Manchester Arena are now pushing potential ticket sales to previous customers who have bought before and have an email on record.

Confidence is now growing now that Parker has been paid. Sales might start to move now and hopefully fill up the arena.

Had the email as well.

Even though I have been doubtful from the start about this fight taking place.

The news about Parkers purse going to an escrow makes me think the fight is more likely to happen than not happen.

There is a huge buzz surrounding this fight.
It was $49.95 which was expensive, the drop is more in line with what they charged us for Horn Pac and AJ Wlad.
Parker is as popular as any of the All Blacks so I guess that is saying something from a country that breathes rugby.

Is Parker seriously that popular? I travelled New Zealand for 4 months or so when I was just out of uni, and I found the national obsession with rugby union bordering on disturbing tbh

Umm, now I'm a bit embarrassed. Your both right. Rugby is king. But Parker has built a massive following. He is the epitome of a Kiwi hero. Quietly spoken, genuinely humble ( as opposed to the manufactured humble you get from AJ) and a nice guy.
Add to that he is Kiwi Samoan and they are fiercely loyal - Auckland is the largest Samoan city. He does charity work, kids in need etc. He gets a public welcome when he comes back home and is treated like the king of Samoa when he goes there.
I'm a fan of the man too, but he needs a few more top fights before I'm a fan of the boxer. Heck, David Tua is still a celebrity here :o

Yes being kiwi, Joseph Parker is extremely popular down here. I don't think it's a stupid claim to say he's almost as big as the All Blacks.

Thanks for that. So basically they were trying to overcharge initially and have seen sense and reduced it to normal PPV pricing?
