Callum Smith would have a chance @ SMW surely ? :box:
Callum is going to beat him if it's at 168 and not some daft catch weight.

Think Yarde wins this unless something dodgy happens.

If he’s drinking and getting frisky with strangers, then that’s not really a solid training camp.

Yarde can hit, even if he looks like he can’t do much else. Think Kovalev will show up unprepared and switch off now and then, take a few big uns, and won’t be hungry enough to get up.

There is, as always, the possibility something very Russian happens. I wish there was betting markets for fighters failing tests.

Light heavyweight contender Anthony Yarde explained that his mandatory fight with WBO world champion Sergey Kovalev was delayed long enough to get a drug testing protocol in place for both boxers.

The fight was initially targeted for the date of June 29.

Their contest now takes place on August 24th at Kovalev's home city of Chelyabinsk in Russia.

When the Canelo negotiations fell through, Kovalev and his handlers went forward with the Yarde clash.

"That enabled us to make a big palaver about Sergey not wanting drugs testing for our initial date of June 29. Thank God it worked. I'm not alleging anything about Sergey but I'm 100 per cent delighted to know for sure that this will be a clean fight," Yarde told The Daily Mail.

"Fighters who use drugs are not only cheating but putting the lives of their opponents in even greater danger. I was tested the other week on a trip to Las Vegas when I was besieged by phone calls as I walked along the Strip and had to rush back to my hotel instead going to eat at Hooters.

"Then as soon as I got home I was tested four times in quick succession. It's reassuring to know that Kovalev will be getting the same."

Kovalev has the experience, but Yarde believes his youth, skills and power will overcome that factor.

Yarde is not worried about the judges, because he's very motivated to win the fight by knockout.

"I will remove the judges from the equation by knocking him out. It's not complicated. He didn't want this fight because while there was no shame for him losing to Andre Ward, he will be seriously embarrassed when he loses to this novice he sees as a kid," Yarde said.

Kovalev's behaviour outside the ring is like a big sign saying "Bet on the other fella".

I re-watched the two Alvarez fights last night, I sincerely think Yarde's gonna chin him, probably whilst well behind on points.

So looks like this one is actually going to happen, with around three weeks to go...Great fight, and could be one of the fights of the year, if only from a British standpoint: undefeated big hitting prospect ( who may or may not be the real thing ) taking on a fearsome champion in his home town - and going to Russia just adds to the intrigue...Anthony Yarde is showing balls of steel to take this one on, and he’s certainly going to need them out there.

Pay-per-view presumably, or maybe not ?

How far ahead of the fight do we think he’s going to go out there ? because obviously that has its upsides and potential downside..

Ya think it's a real good chance for Yarde

Though there is something hilarious to me in a wtf way about the thought of Kovalev, a strange looking funny sounding Russian guy, blowing kisses and throwing cash on airplans , ladies prob like :oo

Great, BT showing up Sky with a real quality fight & no PPV.
Yeah Kov sounds like he’s out of control lately, & in danger of heading into mad ike ibeabuchi territory - Could be his alleged hard life starting to catch up with him, but he’s still a scary step up for someone as untested as Yarde is.

I feel the same. People going on as if Kovalev is finished and Yarde is the second coming. Who knows that may well prove true but he beat Alvarez quite handily in the rematch showing he’s not done yet.

It’s an intriguing fight anyway should be good and no Ppv bullsh1t makes it all the better.

His boxing was still a high level last fight, and of course he hits hard, though he has a vulnerability about him. And he doesn't like body shots, which Yarde throws well. It's a really interesting one to me, I could see Kov flattening him, schooling him, or getting KTFO.

They are gambling on getting Kovalev at the right time.

It could blow up in their faces for sure, he's definitely a little on the other side of his best, and there's questions about his dedication, but, he has fought at levels Yarde is nowhere near, and even 70% of Kovalev might be enough to batter Yarde.

Should be interesting.
