Still he was getting outboxed and losing almost every round. Still won only on his perfect timing and devastating power. Although that's also an achievement.

My only issue with Wilder in this fight is that he gave away those rounds with inactivity, merely trying to figure out how to land the right. He showed good defense and movement and patience, but this approach will lose him a fight one day.

True, this will not work against Fury at all. That sneaky bastard will dance around with the jab and combos, with the knowledge that if he stays on his feet all 12, it is in the books with this type of fight plan.

Wilder didn't show anything really in the rematch, so yeah he didn't waste anything or just jump on Ortiz like I thought. That damn one-punch power is crazy! Im going with that he is getting wiser and plays the diva-card in the heavyweight division, he is one that is for sure. Solid boxer thou, whatever people are saying about his skillset, it is unortodox and works on his strenghts. Mark Breland in the corner is working out good.
If anything is telling of this fight, is what oogiebe wrote that Wilder showed patience. Did that bastard really go for one punch all along? Need to rewatch the fight. Either way, Wilder can get away with it.

Story of the fight:

Old man with heart condition overexerts himself trying to get at a younger man.
Old man is knocked down with one punch, then takes forever getting to his feet; like old men do when they fall over.
A second old man steps in to save the older man from himself.
Everyone celebrates the young man's strategy and patience.

Why were people warning Wilder not to fight Ortiz? The champion has to be able to beat every other boxer in his division or he is a fake and Wilder obviously is not a fake.

Regardless of the cards Wilder didn't look close to getting stopped here.

Maybe 2-3 points maybe more.
Deontay's boxing ability is lacking man, he gets it done on concentration, will, athleticism, drive, speed and power ... he is exciting.
Most of the fight was spent squaring one another up, jabs, the odd body shots and usual Hollywood chase scenes.
There were no long term exchanges in firepower until Wilder landed the big one, I would have thought Ortiz would have got up, at least for a count.
Wilder did land clean though so who knows.

Agreed!! Had Joshua shown the same level of patience and caution that Deontay did Saturday night he would most likely have beaten Ruiz!! We dont know yet if AJ learned anything after throwing caution to the winds but Wilder apparently did.

When it's all said and done. The guy is 41-0-1 with 40 KO's. So long as he finds his spot, he's winning. Gotta figure sooner or later someone will figure him out.

He wasn't very patient in that fight. He was over anxious and missing a lot. I know you know that bear poker!

I've only watched highlights and the KO so far. My god he has some punch on him. It's taken me a long time to come around to him but it was obviously worth protecting him and padding his record for all those years to get him to this point, where all he has to do is land flush and it changes the fight completely. Totally legit. Ortiz looked genuinely bummed out like he was going to cry. I actually felt sorry for him.

If only Wilder wasn't such a knob, I might even start liking him.
