Rd 1 is why boxing scoring is dumb actually. Not much happened. If you are forced to pick bjs won it. But its dumb it counts as much as canelo kicking the crap out of him in rd 8

What’s the difference between our scorecards?Jeff_lacy_ko wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 17:04You didnt do well. Canelo won the rest
Some of you dont know how to score a fight
Do the maths. The difference is trivial.
I had one even round, which you gave to Canelo.
We both gave Saunders three rounds.
Why are people so motivated to attack before they bother to think?
I look forward to your rebuttal.

Interestingly heard less “he quit” talk than when DDD did it, even though ddd took rounds rounds of Joyce’s jab to his broken eye befor he gave up.
People wanting someone to go back out with a badly damaged eye and no vision out of their lead eye are idiots. billy jo was going well, but seriously how do you expect him to out box p4p number one for 4 rounds without being able to see out of his lead eye, and without getting hit on it 50 more times risking permanent damage? You are getting the same result, just getting an extra 2-12 mins of extream career and life altering damage.

It might be an age thing. Fighting on with all sorts of injuries was just normal until the last 10 years or so.
I expect fighters to get back in there unless they physically can't.
We respect guys facing down adversity, it's what the sport means to me at least.
If BJS had at least given it a try, maybe olde timer fans like myself would cut him a break. He could have taken a knee if he needed to. And after all that tough talk, he turned out to be a pussy. Well whadda ya know..
Brook carried on against Spence until he couldn't, DD gave it a few rounds, Joe Smith Jr went 4 rounds with a fully broken jaw.

This thread had it as a saunders rd
Are you going to DENY you called the round wrong? Will you admit to the world you got the round wrong?

nah, not forced to pick bjs. i dont think he landed a power punch all round, it was all slappy jabs, most of which missed. watching again. canelo lands by far the best shots of the round, notably a left hook to the body, straight right body, and right up topJeff_lacy_ko wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 17:14 Rd 1 is why boxing scoring is dumb actually. there is this weird trend for ppl to act like a guy is outboxing his opponent because he moves around and misses tons of jabs

Honestly mate, I don't want to see GGG again. He was on the slide going into the first fight.Jeff_lacy_ko wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 18:57 End of the day better than expected fight, good ending, made me forget the brutal undercard

Re: Round-by-Round: Canelo Alvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders - May 8, 2021
i think they'd allow for scorring to more accurately reflect the fights......cuz obviously there is a big difference between a guy just edging a round, and a guy dominating but not quite doing enough for 10-8
think it might take some time for ppl to become comfortable with scoring that way but i think it's something that should be considered. albeit, if crooked judges are trying to score for one guy, they'll prob just score for him anyway . but assuming judges are fair, i think half point would be good

I think it would take care of the general sense of injustice most people feel.
I always go back to canelo vs GGG 1. GGG dominated the middle rounds but it counted the same as canelo nicking the final rounds.
Byrds scoreccard aside most fans though GGG clearly won. He clearly won the majority of the minutes in the fight but in rd by rd scoring it was close.

In a perfect world To me rd 1 shouldn't be scored the same last night as a clear saunders rd 5(despite what EO's tv ahowed him) or a clear canelo rd 8

I scored rd 1 for Canelo basically on the basis of the heavy body shot he landed. Wouldn’t particularly argue with Saunders getting it as there wasn’t really much in it. In the end, I had it 6-2 Canelo.

I get the old school approach and I also like to see that warrior mentality but it can be stupid. If billy was a banger, or canelo was chinny I’d say go out there for a round and try to knock him. Load up, swing hard. But in this case, billy isn’t knocking canelo and he isn’t out boxing canelo for 4 rounds half blind there just wasn’t a path to victory.KiwiRider wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 18:47I get what your saying Greg3gregregegg wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 18:27 Interestingly heard less “he quit” talk than when DDD did it, even though ddd took rounds rounds of Joyce’s jab to his broken eye befor he gave up.

Right.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 17:07 i dont think he won the 1st clearly at all, he basically pawed with jabs from too far away all round. barely landed any of them because he was pulling his shots and too far away, and the ones that he did were total weak slaps
canelo landed a really nice left hook body shot and had all the quality

He may have said this before knowing the real damage that was caused..

Dubois views it as a life lesson for Saunders.
“It's amazing how life works,” Dubois told The Sun. “I thought Billy did well and it was a good fight up until that point. He was making it awkward and then the punch happened and Mark had to stop the fight.
“I had to f------ go through that one didn't I? He made his decision really quickly but I'm not going to rub it in for Billy. He will be going through it now with the eye injury and how the fight ended. Maybe he will regret what he said about me, maybe this might teach him something. It could be a life lesson.
“Any loss, stoppage or whatever is going to be a depressing thing. I've heard the injury is bad. Will he come back? We will see but I'm sure he can. We might bond over it, fighters can get along together. Best of enemies and all that, look at David Haye and Derek Chisora who boxed each other and are now working together. This business is interesting and things like that can happen.”
