Any prediction for anything is guesswork. There are degrees of probability and leaps of faith you take.

Bookies have to price Yarde as the underdog because they have to price him on what they know. But guess what, you don’t win money betting on things where the bookies have the whole story. You win money on bridging the gap where there’s incomplete information.

Quite a few of us believe Yarde is very good. Not ‘But Only Looking Good Against Limited Opposition Then Folding When He Takes A Step Up!’ good, but real deal good. How is this deduced? The good old eye test. That’s what bridges the gap. Served me pretty well in the past.

I keep ramming this home, but your quote represents a classic error among boxing fans. The corollary of ‘he’s a bit green’ is NOT ‘he’s definitely going to get knocked out’.

Don’t forget Fwank got his timing right with Hatton against Tsyzu back in the day. Plenty (myself included) thought it was too soon for Ricky and he’d get stopped.

Very true, though Fr*nk got Ricky huge home advantage for that, and I doubt Hatton would have managed a performance like that in Russia, especially after all his luggage went awol also Hatton was brought along brilliantly with his lead up opponents, Yarde not so much ....
And a more recent MO is sending em out there on mission impossible for big bucks, like Liam Smith ...

I wasn’t sure about him before because I didn’t follow his fights too closely, because they were so cynically one-sided, but paying close attention these last few weeks he’s a really lovely kid I so hope he does this.

Yarde is unbelievably accomplished for a relative novice. He has a punchers chance. Would be feat if he wins in Kovalev's back yard.

Hmm, Hatton had a LOT of leadup opponents I guess, and on average they were a bit better than Yarde’s but did Hatton ever really face adversity pre Tzsyu? I guess he did get cut a lot (that Norwich opponent whose name escapes me springs to mind) but I can’t remember how often he was really chinchecked. Eamonn Magee was a good learning fight for him I suppose.

It would have been nice for Yarde to have had a couple more against the likes of Murat or Caparello before this, which would have put him on par with a pre-Tszyu Hatton opposition wise, but I’m not sure they would have really tested him that much. I feel like Yarde is too good for fringe contenders to act as learning fights for him. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - if he’s ever ready it’s now.

I have found the eastern block fighters because they have such an elongated amateur career they peak quickly in the pro's - by that logic Kov has been for the taking since early 2017 (as alvarez proved)

Or maybe because he is very talented and skilled, fast and punches hard. Those might also be reasons Yarde has a chance.

^ pretty much what I am thinking - I am an optimist but I just can't see Campbell pulling it off next week however can most defo see Yarde stopping Kov!
