To the first part; glad you agree that's how you score a round. To the second; all human experiences are subjective.Fray Bentos wrote: ↑28 Jan 2023, 20:13Of course, I felt he won the round by scoring more effective clean punches - which in the first half of the fight he did. You win a round by landing a higher number of effective punches on your opponent than they land on you. You could be "busier" by throwing twice as many punches in a round, but only landing half the amount of effective punches your opponent does. You would have been "busier" but you would lose the round.Fray Bentos wrote: ↑28 Jan 2023, 19:45
Obviously for me, he did throw effective punches etc - yeah, seriously, a fighter can win a round on being 'busier' it will be interesting to see who landed more punches when the stats come out.![]()

If you score a fight on who was busier - he was in front.
It depends how you score fights, for me personally Yarde was in front, he was busier but he was losing steam the further the fight went.

Yarde did great, but Bertebiev beat the fight out of him. Made him quit.

There you go, good job I don't do it for a living.
Re: Round-by-Round: Artur Beterbiev vs. Anthony Yarde - 28 January 2023
An unexpectedly competetive fight and an entertaining one. Probably Beterbiev prepares mentally to his fights relying on those expectations. Look how he performed against Callum Johnson with Deines and against Gvodzdyk with Smith Jr.
Beter was openly trying to kayo Yarde fast, he pressed forward without caring much about the defence, but Yarde was ready to fight back. Yarde is fast and powerful enough, but the problem with him is that he fights without much of thought. He was looking for trading for all time and he got caught.

Just caught up with the fight and while Yarde deserves nothing but credit for his challenge, he was well beaten by a far superior fighter in every department.
Thankfully Tunde had the good sense to wave the white flag of surrender before Yarde finished the fight flat on his back again.
Not one of Beterbiev's better performances and he probably didn't feel the fear needed to box at his best, but he's still a dream to watch and dismantled Yarde with precision, patience & power.
Both the radio and TV guest pundits wildly overrated the reality of Yarde's ability to win....maybe such a good challenge deserves that hype, but in truth, Callum Johnson came closer to beating Beterbiev (albeit very briefly).
What Johnson and Yarde both have in common is Beterbiev made them pay heavily for any success they had and stuffed the pair of them.
What a privilege it is for the boxing world to have such an exciting and accomplished champion in Beterbiev![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)

Decent effort by Yarde and maybe not Beterbievs greatest performance but still good enough to win. Yarde is strong and has that punchers chance but not sure he will ever have enough at the very top level.

Overly-muscular fighters always seem to hit a ceiling. I had a feeling Yarde vs Beterbiev would look a bit like Yarde vs Kovalev and they were pretty similar, Yarde is truly world level for about 5 or 6 rounds then the muscles get heavy. It was practically a gust of wind that finished him vs Kovalev.

He just can't box properly. He comes and tries to trade, deliver his power.Ricky wrote: ↑29 Jan 2023, 04:25Controversial wrote: ↑29 Jan 2023, 03:57 Decent effort by Yarde and maybe not Beterbievs greatest performance but still good enough to win. Totally different fight to Kovalev. Back then Yarde was passive, most likely as he was conscious of stamina until he was confident to go for it in the 8th. This time he went for it from the start, intelligently. He took some big shots and landed some too. Good game plan to the body to try and slow Beterbiev down, which he did. Beterbiev was in trouble in this fight, and there was one point where it could have gone either way. Yarde had built himself into that position, unlike against Kovalev. You could say Yarde's muscled frame allowed him to do that because Beterbiev isnt particularly fast, he's just got that concrete strength that you somehow need to push back against. I thought Yarde managed that, yes he fell short but he wasnt a million miles away. With so little amateur experience Yarde has had to learn on the job. Would love to see a fight with Joe Smith Jnr next - that's a winnable fight for the Londoner.Ricky wrote: ↑29 Jan 2023, 04:25Controversial wrote: ↑29 Jan 2023, 03:57 Decent effort by Yarde and maybe not Beterbievs greatest performance but still good enough to win. Kovalev boxed Yarde carefully, so eventually Yarde attempted a desperate spurt. Beterbiev went aggressively against Yarde since the start giving him more opportunities.veriton wrote: ↑29 Jan 2023, 04:41Totally different fight to Kovalev. I like this fight but i think bellew is showing too much scouse loyalty here
Re: Round-by-Round: Artur Beterbiev vs. Anthony Yarde - 28 January 2023
Good fight. This win count well for Beterbiev. Yarde is dangerous puncher and at age of 31 he was at his very prime, fighting at home country. Big surprise for me was how fast was Yarde compared to Beterbiev. Still, cannot give Yarde more than 2 rounds. Nothing else than Beterbiev vs Bivol. Beterbiev is maybe already fading at age of 38. For Yarde, fight with Buatsi should be pretty big domestic fight.

Can't fault Yarde's heart and effort, much better than the Kovalev fight, really though Beterbiev just too strong and hard hitting, Yarde had to bite down on the gumshield all night just to hang in there, he did stun Beterbiev a few times but Beterbiev just took that half step back and fired back with harder, better punches, the fight was fought at a pretty hectic pace,. A lot of leather thrown by both men, In the end it got too much for Yarde, hurt in the 8th by a right hand then dropped by the follow up, could've been stopped there but good call by Tunde to wave the towel quick when Beterbiev steamed in
Re: Round-by-Round: Artur Beterbiev vs. Anthony Yarde - 28 January 2023
When cornered and/or hurt Yarde never tried to tie up Bert. If he had tied him up after the 3nd or even 3rd shot he would have took far less punishment. He just went into a Bruno/Hearns style shell and look to throw the odd counter. Survival strategies just weren't there.
Excellent fight. Yarde was close again.
Bert maybe the hardest punching 175 fighter of my lifetime.

I thought Beterbiev won 4 of the first 7, never looked in trouble and was managing the fight beautifully.

Last night was the Yarde show.
He didn’t win but that’s who they kept praising and talking about afterwards.
Woodhall ended the broadcast saying it took Frank Bruno 4 attempts to finally win the world title.
Broadcast and commentary was a joke.
They were taking about Yarde as if they were in his corner and he could hear them.
Why can’t we just have one 50-50 unbiased commentary for once.

He was backed up after eating some punches of Yarde somewhere from the 3rd til 5th, as far as I can recall, but he cornered Yarde in return.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑29 Jan 2023, 07:06 I thought Beterbiev won 4 of the first 7, never looked in trouble and was managing the fight beautifully.
