I'm thinking there is no sense for my vote, because I'm the only and solitary in my vote of great South American fighters befeore the 70's, and I'm looking like a ridiculous daft... In previous election, for example, Jose Carattoli scored three votes, but now, after a long time, I'm the only who votes him

Hi!
Yes, you're right! but Carattoli was more than Kid Pambele; beat Cervantes boys like Gastanaga or Loughran?
Thanks you!

Martin,
Loughran was past his best by the time he fought Carattoli. In fact he had lost his last three fights.
His win over Gastanga isn't a big deal at all. Gastanaga had one notable win, in an otherwise mediocre career.

Dear AmblingAlp,
Tommy Loughran was between the top ten best heavyweights of the world in The Ring ratings until 1936
After lost an unanimous decision against Jose Carattoli (October 6, 1934), Loughran beat Arturo Godoy (January 5, 1935); Jack London (March 16, 1936); Ray Impellitiere (June 20, 1935 and September 16, 1936); and, in his last fight, take revenge winning over another top ten heavy of the world, Sonny Walker (January 18, 1937)
Isidoro Gastanaga, before be was tko’ed, demolished by Jose Carattoli in 6 rds (May 1, 1931), scored 18 consecutive KO wins (1928-1930); KO’ed in 2 Alejandro Trias (November 17, 1928) and KO’ed in the first round Mike McTigue (March 8, 1930)
After his lost to Jose Carattoli, Gastanaga beat Vincenz Hower by KO in 4, twice (June 20, 1933 and May 4, 1934); KO’ed in 1 Michele Bonaglia (September 26, 1934); TKO’ed in 4 Goyito Rico (April 6, 1935); KO’ed in 7 Joe Sekyra (October 12, 1935); KO’ed in the 1st Steve Dudas (April 25, 1936) and beat by unanimous decision the then world champion John Henry Lewis (October 15, 1937)
Also, Jose Carattoli beat the great Peruvian Alberto Icochea, the Chilean Jose Concha (who KO’ed Quintin Romero Rojas, after winner by KO over Jack Sharkey), the extraordinary Uruguayan Guillermo Silva, the first Latin American who was Olympic Champion, Victor Avendano, and others…
But Carattoli haven’t votes for the HOF…

Martin, I'm not sure if you are serious about all of this. Assuming that you are, you are making 2 huge mistakes when rating fighters which is leading to pick people like Carratoli that no one else does.
1. You have to take into consideration the stage of both fighters career when looking at a fight. If it's obvious that a fighter is way past it, or is very inexperienced, that beating him doesn't mean much.
Tommy loughran was way past it when he fought Carratoli. He lost his previous three fights. They were to Primo Carnera, Walter Nuesel, and Johnny Risko. By your own logic, you should have voted for Carnera,Nuesel, and Risko, but you didn't.
Loughran wins over Ray Impellataire (6-4) and Sonny Boy Walker (5-1-2) don't mean he had much left. They were very inexperienced.
Mike McTigue was 37 and had well over 100 fights. He was pretty much shot when he fought Gastanaga. That fight means nothing.
2. Even if a win is legimate, you have to look at the whole career. One big win doesn't make you a great fighter, no one bad performance/loss make a you a poor fighter.Gastanaga was 43-29. Caratolli's win over him doesn't mean much at all. Are you going to vote the 28 other other guys who beat Gastanga? Of course not.
Caratolli's compeition is very suspect. He had 3 wins over guys who had 20 or more wins at the time. (i realize that record keeping isn't perfect, but it's obvious that he didn't beat great competition.
Compare that to some of the fighters that you could be voting for.
Gene Fullmer beat Carmen Basilio twice, Ray Robinson twice (past his best, but still great), had a draw with Joey Giardello, lost a controversial decision to Dick Tiger, and had a draw with Tiger. also beat Spider Webb, Florentino Fernandez, and Benny Paret. I'm not saying you can't find flaws on Fullmer's record, but it's a lot more impressive than Jose Caratolli.
Or maybe someone like Bob Montgoemry who beat Beau Jack twice, and Ike Williams.
I haven't voted for Victor Galindez myself, but he has a much more impressive record than Caratolli. He was a good champion who beat several solid contenders, not to mention beating Eddie Mustafa Muhammad.
