Boxrec Hall of Fame Election (May 2009)

Post by Ambling Alp »

It's time for another election. Things will be a little different this time. Voters must select 15-25 fighters, and they must vote only for fighters who received atleast 2 votes in the last election. (Those fighters are listed in alphabetical order below)

This will increase the chances of a fighters getting 75% of the vote.(no one did last time, only one fighter the time before)
This reduces the chances of having to resort to Inducting the fighter(s) who got the most votes (which can lead people to not vote for someone because that fighter would have had one more vote than everyone else and would be the only fighter elected. There are other quirks that can happen as well.)
It should also be easier to tally the votes since not so many fighters will be getting votes.

We are only doing it this way every other election. Next time, things will be back to normal.
The deadline is Noon, (Central Time) Friday, May 15.

Vote for 15-25 out of the following 62 eligible fighters:

Horacio Accavallo
Sammy Angott
Jimmy Barry
Battling Battalino
Jack Kid Berg

I intend to vote, would you mind holding the door open for me should I show up late to the polls this time? The last time you slammed the door on me causing me great anguish and pain. I considered getting a lawyer due to my disappointment and emotional trauma. A class action suit was just about filed when I suddenly lost focus and forgot what I was mad about. However this thread reminded me of just what brought on my grief symptoms, and wouldn't you know it, it's five days past the statute of limitations on filing a lawsuit.

I trust you'll use better discretion before closing the polls this time.

Don't worry about it, just study my ballot (once I produce it) and simply cut and paste.

Note to Seamus, Antonio Cervantes is already in as I recall (Having campaigned for him) I believe Jose is the Cervantes in question in this poll.

Is that correct Alp?

In alphabetical order for me:

Battling Battalino\
Jimmy Bivins
ANTONIO CERVANTES.....DAMNIT!!!
James J Corbett
Esteban DeJesus
Flash Elorde
Gene Fullmer
Joey Giardello
Peter Jackson
Joe Jeanette
Kid McCoy
Dwight Muhammad Qawi
Battling Nelson
Kid Norfolk
Floyd Patterson
Tommy Paul
Eusebio Pedroza
Maxsie Rosenbloom
Vincente Saldivar
Tom Sharkey
Pancho Villa
Jersey Joe Walcott
Harry Wills
Fritzie Zivic

A bit eclectic I know, some are there because of "fame" others for skill. But of the names available these are my choices. I would have wandered off the farm to get my real top 15 choices. But I like this way of moving it forward based on past voting patterns. I'm considering going back and editing to add the Gibbons clan....but for the moment I'm undecided. I'm allowed edits up until the expiration date correct?

No Buzz. Antonio Cervantes has not been elected. Perhaps it was a Quixotean slip.

Buzz,
Another mistake on my part. It was an honest mistake, not a right wing, left wing or any other kind of wing conspiracy.
(I may fire my assistant)
Antonio hasn't been elected yet, but should have been on the list instead of Jose. I edited it. Go ahead and put Antonio on your ballot.

Alp, I will second your choices for the fighters you voted for. I will just replace Welsh with Floyd Patterson and Mandell with Antonio Cervantes since, I admit, I do not know much about Welsh and Mandell. Thanks.

I got to agree with Ambling Alp, Ray. I had a couple fighters picked, that I couldn't name either. Problem is, you go that route, and you end up with over a 100 picks, but no one get's a high enough pct to be elected. Then everyone says that silly.

It's more like real life this way. In November we have limited choices to vote for.

Nothing like a bit of horse-trading to get the votes for the right man.

Anyone find it in their hearts to give a vote or two to Bert Gilroy?

It would mean a lot to me and Jimbo if you could....

:D
