I suppose I must be the 2nd oldest on here, Scrap beating me by about a year. As a boy back in the 50s I listened to fights on the radio with my Dad, and attended my first boxing match. The first fight I ever saw on TV was Clay v Liston, and the first fight to broadcast live on UK TV in the middle of the night. Very exciting stuff back then. So I have been a fan of, and followed boxing for over 50 years now. One of the first boxers I remember was Freddie Mills and I was very young at that time. I can remember in the school playground talking to my mates about the Rocky Marciano/ Don Cockle bout the morning after the fight, I was about 10 then. Sadly my memory for facts isnt very good anymore so you lads who were not even born then (and in most cases not for many years after) have learned a lot more about boxing history than I can remember. I am really supprised so many of you are so young, you write as if you have 35/40 years behind you. I am 64 in July and my youngest (child) is 43.

Been watching boxing since Bruno -- Witherspoon. Or, at least, that's the first real big fight I can remember.

I remember my dad telling me that Witherspoon's plan was to beat him at the end. I seem to have it in my head that Bruno pounded him in a punishing fight and got knocked out in one of the last couple. I haven't watched it since.

Of course, I didn't watch all the fights back then, but I remember the big ones.

I even remember watching Fan Man Bowe Holyfield and being just amazed at the technical quality in the early rounds. It was a revelation for me. Don't know if that's accurate, or just my memories.

I also remember seeing a repeat of Hearns Duran and being actually a little scared -- uncomfortable, like. I thought Hearns was a monster. Scary eyes. I'm not sure if it was at the time or whether it was a few years later, because that was 85, I think, when I'd have been only six.

Im 27 yrs old.

Grew up watching the Big Fight live on ITV on Saturday nights in the early 90s... Eubank predominantly, and Benn with Naz a little later. ITV in the early 90s really was the glory days as far as Im concerned.

I too didnt like the idear of having to pay into a pension when I was young. Now I am over sixty and drawing on that pension I am glad I was forced to. There may not be a State pension in years to come so the earlier you start the better it will be for you. None of us Elvis generation kids could ever get old, or at least thats what we thought but in reality its all gone far too quickly, and we have got old. It all seems like dead money when you are young, I know I thought like that. If you have all your stamps the State pension is about £120 a week. I would hate to have to live on that. In just over a year I will qualify for the State Pension and have my private pension as well which means I can still run a car and hopefully enjoy life. Its not about being nearly dead, its about having the time to enjoy life without having to go to work anymore. To enjoy life you need a decent income and some savings. Without that its sitting in front of a TV and turning down the gas to save on fuel bills, what a dreadful life.

Been watching boxing for about 20 minutes now on YouTube.

Seems alright but not as good as UFC.

I'm 31, my grandad got me into boxing with tales of Ali and Arguello.

That then got me into Aaron Pryor, my favourite fighter.

I'm delighted 26 is so old, I presumed he was in his thirties :) That's made my day fella.

I thought twentysix would be early thirties too. I pictured him as a cardboard cut out of Ryan Rhodes!

Can't believe I am one of the youngest on here. I thought it would be hammered with lads my age, but I guess I am wrong. Although, I do enjoy some of the 'oldies' insights and experiences with boxing.

i go on here & warrior and i think 90% of warriors members must be under 21

I'm 37 as well Ian and that memory resonated with me massively - I remember exactly where I was when I heard the result.. was in my mate's older brother's car on the way back from our Sunday morning Tae Kwon Do lesson and remember being stunned. Watched it later and always remember the 'Ragamuffin's' burgundy sequin shorts - if you're going to do it, do it in style
McGuigan's nights at the King's Hall were the events that ensured I was a fan for life. Didn't actually box as an amateur until I was 20, when I switched from Tae Kwon Do after getting disillusioned by 'semi-contact' sparring, and had to pack it in at 23 due to work commitments, but still wish I'd started as a kid

Got a vague memory of Ali v Holmes, but the fight that got me hooked was Nigel Benn v Anthony Logan on Sportsnight (I think) been a fan ever since.

Boxed a bit in the army - nothing serious, no fights but plenty of sparring
Loved it, and I wish I took it up earlier.

Difficult because hardly any of my friends are into boxing so it's impossible to have a conversation with someone, unless it's about the mega fights. It's impossible to chat to anyone about less mainstream fights on Friday Fight Nights or ITV4 boxing.

I bet thats the problem with alot of people on here, unless you're actively involved in boxing and in and out of gyms all the time.
Like you said its impossible to talk about anything other than the big fights - if I started talkin to any of my mates tomoro about the Burns-O'Hara fight tonight id be stared at blankly

im 45 at moment, loved the sport since i was about 11. loved stracey, conteh, honeyghan, benn, eubank, naz, lewis etc.

boxed as a schoolboy, thats all, but in the same ring that herbie hide boxed in as a school boy too !!!! ... obviously not same ring same time.. !!

I'm 28. I got into boxing properly in '94 when Naz hit the big time. He was obviously fantastic entertainment, but not the main reason why I started watching. That was because I began going to a club occasionally with friends who were full-time amateurs.

The strange thing about Hamed was that he never inspired me, whereas the less thrilling Eubank did. I think Bowe-Holyfield II was the first fight I watched in its entirety; maybe not, but that's the earliest one I remember thanks to the landing.

I'm 39, been into boxing for 35 years. First fight I seen and I remember the night if not the fight was The Rumble in the Jungle. My dad woke me up to watch it, he wouldn't let me stay up apparently cos a horror movie was on before it, but he wanted me to see the fight, I was 4 1/2.

Prob' most memorable night of boxing in all that time was the night the Fan Man landed in the ring for Holyfield v Bowe, memorable for that reason but also because it was the night my now wife (we were friends at the time) and I got together -- I tried to feel her boobs when on an E.

Now, I talk, watch, read, shit about boxing ever day as it's my number 1 sport.
