Another sad loss to the sport, bet he had some great stories to share I remember when he boxed mark thompson at shaw oldham a few years ago in marks 3rd or 4th fight, i was boxing too that day,he was chatting to some of my fans like just another fan who was at the venue to watch the boxing having a pint but then suddenly got up off his stool and had a competitive fight with mark which my fans couldnt believe!! Sad sad loss thoughts with his family!!

I've worked in the opposite corner to him once or twice. Very sad news. A genuine nice guy.

I'm still shocked by this news.
Great kid - the sort the Sport needs.
You've only got to look at the names on his record of Boxers who were being groomed for stardom to know how he was regarded by many in Boxing.
Debut opponent for the likes of Nathan Cleverly, Denton Vassell, Michael Lomax, Stuart Elwell - and others.
Kel Brook had to endure him not once but twice !
RIP Ernie.

Pointless making the comment then, what a spudlike comment!
If you have too much respect etc you shouldn't have posted anything at all, all it does is stir interest further
It will be reported in the boxing press and his local press, so there's no reason not to say it here.

Yes, thats true, althought I think threads on message baord re better suited to remembering a person's life rather than focusing on how they died.

True. Just seen via Facebook what it was. Perhaps it should be mentioned here and then people can stop asking "why" and get on with doing as you said - remembering his life. Otherwise I feel withholding the info will only detract from that. In fact, it already has, leading to a mini-spat in this thread.

RIP Ernie. It's no secret I'm not a fan of "survivalist" journeymen, but I'm pleased to say Ernie was always good to watch. He brought more to the table than merely looking for the final bell.

No they won't, but you can see for yourself plenty of people are asking "why" rather than taking this thread in the direction it should be taken. If the "why" is dealt with, then we can focus on the tributes, and that's that.

Is that the same guy?? I thought the boxer Ernie was from the West Midlands, and there's no mention of him being a boxer in this article, which is definitely a newsworthy detail.
