I would lovelovelovelovelovelovelovelove for Martinez to beat up Sturm.

However, I am not sure I would actually want to view that fight; Sturm's cautious, overly-jab happy approach would not mesh well with Martinez's counter-punching style if you ask me.

Martinez is too old to be mismanaged or maneouvred into boring fights. He needs come-forward lads to shine against
i think Sturm's jab-first approach would like all jab-first guys be somewhat baulked by the southpaw angles and movement of Martinez.

you and me if we're facing a lefty, we're going to lead with right hands and try to throw left hooks of them- can you see Sturm leading with the right very often haha?

Martinez wouldn't shine, here, don't get me wrong, but his style would put him into position to initiate more exchanges than Sturm would, and i think we can all guess that in a case where simply out-gutting your man is required, it wouldn't be Strum winning on intestinal fortitude. Martinez would take it in a mini-stinker, here, IMO, but Sturm won't go near him, natch.

oh and plus, Sturm would always end up giving Martinez the option of punching round or between his double-guard. in fact i could see Martinez standing right in front of him for long periods with his hands down, trying to entice Sturm out of his shell.

i think a fighter like a Macklin (even), a strong brawler-boxer type, would give Martinez more trouble than Sturm.

The top welterweights aren't coming up to 154 to fight him as he is too hard a fight.
reckon margarito would come up, provided he wants the fight. bigger prize, middleweight title. pavlik was eyeing up margarito, interestingly.

martinez is the champ and ppl have to come to him.

sturm would be a boring fight. a rematch with pavlik is more meaningful and more likely (given the rematch clause). martinez v sturm would be more like martinez v cintron. less exciting, lots of feints & misses, indeed as much fenting as punching. though martinez would find a way around sturm's straight shots, probably literally i.e. angles, punching round the guard.

i do suspect that pavlik may just go up to 168, and get handed over to bute. pavlik won't like it, but if his options are limited (and let's face it, they are), he will follow the money. HBO seem to have the backing of bute, who is really delivering right now. it seems they have their post calzaghe super middleweight (and rival to showtime's super 6) champion.

would be great if macklin or lee was ready to challenge martinez. if the yanks built it up right, made it a good money fight. but i do suspect they would prefer one of the german world champs. i don't see martinez fighting a german; but i do see some of the british and irish prospects fighting the germans.

Bob Arum should start matching Pavlik up with sluggers again. :TU:

wow, finally got the DVD.

a fight in 3 parts. martinez using movement and walking pavlik on to fast counters. pavlik finding the range and troubling the smaller man with power shots. martinez grabbing the fight, putting those brilliant combos together, flustering and injuring pavlik.

what martinez did in the final third was fabulous, gritty, stylish and commanding. if martinez isn't in the p4p top 10, someone should send a 250-pound chris arreola to bum rish the sad crusty twats who are probably just biding their time for mayweather-mosley.
