Joe your entitled to your opinion mate, john simpson has improved since his last fight and imo is way past domestic level and he plans to prove it against stephen,i've seen swifty box allbeit against journeymen who he should look good against but fighting simpson will be totally diffrent to what he's ever faced before.Swifty is a smashing lad and i wish him all the best in his career except on the 4th sept lol

Frankie Gavin mate and I'll reserve my judgement on the other one till the 18th...
Frankie is frightening he really is..
This country is really booming with boxing at the min and I think this time next year we'll have about Box Office fighters..

Bomber where would you and your NW pals rate Kell Brook when it comes to top UK fighters?
Just interested - all of us in Sheffield think he can go the distance but curious to know what you guys over there think ...

Quality little fighter, but haven't seen him properly tested yet. Can't wait to see him against Jennings, will be able to gauge just how far he can go.

I dont think Brook will go all the way,he just seems to have to many problems out of the ring for a start, and i think Jennings will show hes not quite the wrecking machine some think he is.His British title opponents have been poor to be honest.I think Gavin has a great chance of going very far,but it will be on the back foot boxing, not as we have seen so far.I honestly think Degale is our best hope for World honours, just because people dont like him it doesnt mean he cant box,he can and is a very talented kid.Not seen enough of Swifty but the Simpson fight will tell us a lot,the way he beat up the highly skilled Truscott was very impressive.I know everyone raves about Swifty, but there is a lot of scouse bias on here,we will see.I also think Cleverley gets underated on here, hes very young and done an awful lot so far with no home advantage and studying, seems mentally very strong.Hope Bomber does well, but again, too early to know until he steps up.

Seen a lot of Swifty to know that the man is the real thing.
I rate Simpson very highly as domestic fighter but Smith has all the necessary tools to go further than the British boundaries.
Smith on points by scores of around 116-112.

think what you have said? if john's one of the best in europe he must be there or thereabouts in the worlds top 10-20 which way above domestic level.

I hope people remember what I said! If Simpson is way ahead of domestic level and one of the best in europe when Stephen beats him after his 10th fight I hope the few who are doubting what I'm saying will get back on here and say he is what I've said and surely must have the ability to be special beating someone as far ahead of domestic level and one of the best featherweights in Europe in his first title fight! And if Simpson shocks me and most of the people on here I'll be the first to give him credit.

I think some people might consider that way past domestic level.
Anyways, if I didn't make it clear in my first post on this thread, I am leaning towards Simpson to win. The bookies have the odds right, Simpson should be the favourite. He is more experienced, has fought at a higher level, and has been looking as good as ever recently. Simpson has also gone twelve rounds on several occasions and many of his losses were extremely close. Smith has never fought anyone remotely as good as Simpson and will definitely have to venture into uncharted territory (round nine onwards), as Simpson has never been stopped and has always shown a good chin.
With that said, I'm really looking forward to this fight, although I think there is a very good chance many posters will be disappointed with the outcome.

I think Simpson is a big step up and a very underated fighter, however I have a lot of faith in FW's matchmaking and he wouldn't chuck Smith in so early at this standard if he wasn't very confident.
Smith obviously has amateur pedigree but has very much fought the usual suspects in the pro game so it is difficult to gauge his quality.
I'm sure he has shown his worth in the gym though which his why they are ready to chuck Smith in at the deep end.

I just hope this isn't stopped early, on a cut or premature stoppage. I've just got a bad feeling.

Simpson probably by late stoppage or wide points for me. Too wiley and experienced. Smith is taking a huge step up and I can't see him beating one of the most under rated fighters in the country.

The quality of opposition they have faced to date is vast. The experience of Simpson could prove telling but Smith's greater natural talent might get him the win. Should be a great fight - Simpson is rarely in a dull fight!

Wouldn't have asked for this fight if I didn't truly 100% feel I was going to win. I have the upmost respect for Simpson, know what he brings but that will go out the window when we meet in September. I will come back to Liverpool with a Commonwealth title September 5th, no doubts.

Smith is obviously the better technical boxer and has a good dig as well. Simpson has come good the last few years, the loss to Appelby was very close and he has been stopping men late. I think it'll be bout of the night coz of styles. Simpson never gives up and keeps his strength; he has stacks of bottle - boxing away in the other mans back yard. Smith is the one on the way up though and I very much doubt John Simpson will just roll over. Smith by wide points.

The kids Stephen boxed and beat in the amateurs more than make up the experience defecit. If amateur pedigrees didn't mean anything then Olympic gold medallists wouldn't be so highly sought after....
When you talk of Simpson going the 12 round distance and that being a main factor - Simpson has never won when he has gone 12 rounds. He has lost 5 from 5.
That said, we know what John Simpson is all about, he is respected down here and it has the makings of a really great fight

Another point, also, I think Simpson was losing the first Truscott fight until that nasty cut stopped it. Given the new rules, the fight wouldn't have gone Simpsons way if he was behind on the cards.

He was getting to Truscott, though.Of all Simpsons bouts, its the Tussy ones that impress me most.Paul is a superb boxer and Simpson walked through him.To be fair though,Truscott isnt that physically strong.Really looking forward to this,a brilliant trade fight and completely overshadowing a world title bout on here!

good point on the lack of home advantage. Cleverley for me was one i was much more impressed with when I'd seen him in the flesh.

absolutely mickey, you could say Swifty is Trusscott with a much bigger punch and I thik thats why so many fancy him here.
