One that always sticks in my mind is Nicky Cook v Cyrille Thomas, Cook had been in trouble and looked hurt so decided to go low a couple of times in quick succession. Turned the fight around and he stopped him a couple of rounds later to win the EBU title

A good recent one which will have escaped the attention of almost everyone outside Thailand was round 10 of Pongsaklek Wonjongkam vs Suriyan Por Chokchai. Absolutely solid three minutes of toe-to-toe slugging, with the only pause being when Suriyan stopped to throw up in mid-ring. Pongsaklek pounced on him - getting splattered with spew as he did so - in an attempt to take advantage, but Suriyan was only disturbed for mere seconds and started firing back very soon afterwards.

Amazing... just think how awful it feels to be sick, and imagine how much worse that must feel after nine and a half hard rounds against the world's best boxer at the weight, under near-40-degree daytime heat outdoors... and then having him attack you with renewed ferocity! And then imagine NOT folding, but fighting back!

i was interested in this, especially after reading the bagkok post report of it which also hailed round 10 as round of the year, but a lot of ppl were downplaying how exciting it was.

do you know any dvd traders who have this fight?

Tyson-Holyfield 1 round 6 stands out from when I watched it live. It won't be up there for action but I remember starting to get a real sense that it was Holy's night, a chant for him started & then he put Tyson down. Call me sad but goosebump stuff at the time.

very surprised. usually ppl go dtraight for owe-holyfield round 10 and halger-hearns round 1.

Bowe vs Golota 2 had some real gem rounds in it. Bowe was completely shot, possibly even his legs looked better in his comeback after 10 years than they did this night. But yet still, he brought out some punches from the memory bank to hurt the big Pole when Bowe looked on the verge of getting stopped on several occasions.

Yeah, Bowe looked shot to pieces. His balance was completely gone! I think he'd had to weight drain before the fight because he was in such terrible condition.

Golota punked both fights because Bowe kept getting up. Bowe showed a tremendous fighting heart in both fights. A shame he lacked the discipline to go with it.

Who were these "lots of people"? Julian Turner (who covered it for the Bangkok Post and presumably BN as well) told me Scott Mallon didn't think it was a good fight, but both of us were at a loss as to how he could possibly have thought this! The only criticism I'd have is that Pongsaklek shouldn't have made such hard work of what should have been a routine defence, but that doesn't mean it wasn't entertaining - quite the opposite!

Suriyan reminded me a bit of Ricardo Mayorga - very raw and wild, but cared not one jot for the reputation of the man in front of him - and that's what made it so good to watch.

You don't see heavies go for each other like this anymore, it no effing about, real intent.
