Your favourite rounds of boxing?

Post by antcull »

This threads probably been done plenty before, but its always interesting to get new suggestions as it makes me check out fights that I might not have seen previously.

Anyway, I was watching Taylor-Froch again and it brought back memories of just how great that 12th round was for me, I remember vividly watching that fight and waking up every neighbour within a 1 mile radius through sheer excitement. I don't think I've ever shouted so much watching the boxing live. Absolutely epic ending, the showtime commentary team made it great aswell.

I think I could watch it another 1000 times and not get bored.

Any good suggestions? Would be great to hear about some rare domestic gems. Post vids if you can. :TU:

Arguello v Pryor round 1 - as good as the Hagler/Hearns 1
Hagler Hearns 1 - as above
Sanchez Gomez 1 - the shock of seeing all time great unbeaten KO artist Gomez getting slaughtered by the cool boxing ruthless Sanchez. And the best ring entrances ever.
Holmes Norton 15 - Holmes proves his heart in a photo finish war, one of the great rounds.

My favourite of recent years is round 1 of lennox lewis vs michael grant, lewis had just become undisputed champ and grant was the next big american hope to bring the title back home to the USA,he was a massive heavyweight and a big puncher,3 minutes later lewis had destroyed him and the dream was over

Barrera-Morales III Round 12 was great but how about Limon-Chacon IV Round 15 for an ending to a 4 fight series, superb.

After that second knockdown there is no way you think he is going to get up and win. Even watching it now, I can't help but think he's not going to make the count!

Hearns knockout against Duran is the best single punch ever. My favoutite round is Chavez 12th round against Meldrick Taylor 2 seconds to go! That's what the '0' means.

Final round of Kevin Anderson vs Young Mutley was epic.

I would also say that Cotto vs Torres was a belter and each round was great, but the opener was especially fun !

Round 8 Buster Douglas vs Mike Tyson

Douglas was all over Tyson and the unthinkable was unfolding before our eyes. Then Tyson produced a fabulous uppercut to flatten Buster and it looked like he wasn't going to beat the count. Douglas hauled himself up at 9.9 and the bell saved him. Superb action.

 I was just thinking about Carl Thompson myself. The round he sparked Rothmann in should be a contender because Carl was on the verge of being stopped until he uncorked that fabulous right hand.

Micky Ward vs Arturo Gatti I - Round 9

Corrales vs Castillo - Round 10

Hagler vs. Hearns - Rounds 1, 2 and 3.

Dunne vs. Cordoba - Round 11

'Boom Boom' Mancini vs. Frias - Round 1

Agree with most of the above aswell.

Another good final-round finish was Harrison-Sprott. It was sudden and so didn't have the climactic build-up to the KO that Froch-Taylor had, but it was still amazing, since not only was Sprott winning handily, he looked to have knocked all the fight out of Harrison with his own power work earlier in the round.

A lesser-known recent good round was the first round of Alex Leapai v Travis Walker in Australia. Track it down if you can - a good, "old-fashioned" heavyweight slug-out for three solid minutes.

Some of the shots he took flush versus Haye were huge and he just kept on coming and coming. I have an ego the size of Jupiter but I feel truly humbled in that guy's presence.
I seem to remember the shots Haye was throwing were so hard, I even heard the "swoosh" when one of them missed!
