I think it at least pulls him even with them. Barrera and Morales were very precocious in their successes, Marquez didn't start dominating til later in his life/career. Their own wins over Jones, McKinney, Pacquiao, and Hamed are important to not underestimate, and both are still out there lingering (Morales moreso than MAB). The two of them turned back quite a few very good fighters to the point that aside from them only Pacquiao and Marquez could compete with and eventually succeed them, to the extent where the pairs somewhat function in two separate mini-eras.Counter-puncher wrote:i am pondering this question and i think it's an argument with significant merit.Goodnight, Irene wrote: What Marquez has done to him...history will elevate him above contemporary countrymen Morales & Barrera, IMO.
In the newest issue of The Ring they listed the 10 Greatest Mexican Fighters of All Time and included Barrera at 5 Morales at 6 and Marquez at 10. With the "win" over Pacquiao I think Marquez should jump at least a couple spots.
