He's ok and just needed a big of time, people slating him cannot even begin to believe the terrible 12 months he's had.. I feel the person who made him what he was is the only person who can take him back to where he's been! He's the most naturally gifted kid you'll ever see, he's a super fit kid also.. Just let these things pass and his mind get right and he'll be ok.. All in good time

See, even one of his best mates says he's naturally gifted, which he quite obviously is. Hardwork refines those God-given attributes, but fundermentally it's his natural skills which give him the potential to become a legend. I, for one, hope he does prove to be what everyone thinks he will be. Or should be.
But personally, I doubt he goes past Euro level.

I agree with you there Bomber, from what I have seen of Frankie Gavin so far I have been impressed with what I have seen. He has a very good jab linked in with very quick hands and switches very well between head and body and he has got plenty of spice when he goes to the body, and he just needs tim to get himself together and once he has got his head together etc we will see the very best of him.

at the same time, if you work the same muscles enough the body will adapt and the body WILL change, proven fact over history that is.

Totally misread and i apologise, i meant bones (Azingcourt - English archers fired so many arrows their spines got twisted to cope with the constant pressure)

Bones are not going anywhere without muscle response, its where the response comes from as the interpretation to Feel.

lol "even his mate says it so it must be true"
fact is there are plenty of fighters who have achieved great things through hard work like gavin. they were not the most naturally talented but worked hard throughout their lives. you could have been one of those but you didnt get into a boxing gym at as a kid and didn't train day in day out honing your technique. look at all of the top sportsmen from every sport - football, tennis, snooker, darts, cricket, baseball, basketball, golf, ice hockey, rugby etc. did they all only get there because they were naturally gifted - no is the answer. a lot of them worked hard at honing their skills day in day out and became good over time.
one thing that all of these sportsmen have in common is that they all put in about 10,000 hours of practise and hard work into learning their sport and that is what makes them able to compete at that level
now, you said you would "give anything" to be able to make money like frankie. Did you give 10,000 hours of your life to learning boxing?

I'm from Sheffield mate, lehmans terms please......
i studied History, and i'm pretty sure i'm right with what i say about the archers of agincourt, constant use of the same muscle group, caused the bones to twist and 'adjust' to what they were doing day in day out.
Unless you are agreeing with me then ...cool cheers mate

Jesus. From the age of 8 till the age of 16 I was seriously into amatuer boxing. I had a few fights - lost more than I won, but I enjoyed it regardless. I trained my arse off, but the fact remains, I didn't have the speed (no matter how hard I would have ever worked, because that again is a NATURAL given gift to people who possess it), nor the brain to box clever. My main strengths are my fitness (which incidentally I trained fornicating hard for) and and my strength (again which I trained effing hard at). My footwork, and believe me when I say this, improved a lot from the age of 12 till 16, but again, no matter how hard I practiced I'd never have the fleet of foot like some of the lads in the gym. I was NATURALLY heavy on my feet (nothing I could do, but make very slight improvements). I think in the end, I was naff at boxing, but I gave my all for quite a few years and shadow-boxed 1000's of rounds to get my feet working the way I dreamed of, but alas it wasn't to be. If I estimated how many rounds I spared, and still occasionally do, you wouldn't believe me.
I find you very patronising, and there isn't anymore to say on the subject. Top, elite boxers like Mayweather and Pacquiao and countless others are born with things that mere mortals cannot learn. Yes, they can improve on weaknesses, but that's all. Improvement isn't the same as having something which others excel at.

I can't believe some people are arguing that natural talent doesn't play a huge part. Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick, to use an example from another sport, train together every day, presumably putting in almost exactly the same hours and work, yet one of them is considerably better than the other.
If just hard work was the answer we'd have an awful lot of fights ending in draws.

Good honest post mate. It's very true what you are saying, my brother trains much harder than me and is much stronger, fitter etc but even when I don't do nothing for years I'm still faster in both hand and foot. That's just an example that's very easy for me to see. It's much more obvious in high level sports.

the lad has had a hard extensive am career & how he used to get & stay down at lightweight was remarkable & i think he's paying the price now.
if he never wins a lonsdale the lad is still a legend :!:
pro boxing is a lonelly world & you need a life & your home comforts & i think if you need to be away from a place it means you cant be trusted & ultimately dont trust yourself.
i think it's a good move for gavin who dont need to be taught anymore & has a very good active boxing brain & can allways hire jimmy who's an excellent corner man.
