What a tragedy. He was only 50 years old, so senseless.
He could have had a greater career, but still he is an obvious Hall of Famer. He was infurating at times, but he was a great draw.

What a shame. Rest in Peace champ. Hector was a teriffic fighter and had a throwback style that you don't see much anymore. He would use his legs, keep that southpaw jab in your grill and when you tried to counter his jab he would slip it and counter your counter. I used to find his style entertaining. I think a lot of fans thought he was runnin around but he wasn't.His movement was great boxing. The skill level he had was amazing. He had heart too.

On atgradio.com last night, Roy Jones gave big praise to Camacho saying he had the fastest hands of any fighter he had ever saw.

And honestly, Hector wasn't any better post-prime. He just beat bums and took a pounding once ina while when he stepped up.
Castillo only appears on one Ring yearlyP4P list and that was 2006 ato #9 because of his win over Corrales. Camacho appears on four from 83 to 86 as high as #2 in 85. He will get in the IBHOF.

You waited several days to bring The Ring p4p into it? Damn, you brought out the heavy artillery, color me convinced.
I never said he wouldn't get into the HOF or that it would be a great injustice if he did, I said I wouldn't vote for him.

Point is, P4P, Castillo never ranked that high, or even that much.

Hector Camacho is a hall of famer because of his ring accomplishments which rank very favorably to a lot of guys already in the Hall. More important than that, he was a tranformative figure in the game . People forget that he was the first one to try many of these outlandish self-promoting antics the garish trunks and flamboyance have been imitated by countless boxers since them. For better or worse the showmanship that is common in boxing today was first initiated by the Macho Man . he was a small reltively light punching boxer with a safety-first style who managed to make himself into a household name with his schtick. That's his legacy.

The showmanship adds nothing to the sport, and he wasn't safety first (at first).

I think it was Greg Gaugen that said (oddly) that Camacho had quite a bit of sting in his punches

Showmanship brings attention and big dollars to the sport. My mother know who Camacho is more than Pernell Whitaker.

That adds nothing in terms of in-ring accomplishments, and that's the only criterion I use for evaluating a fighter.
Is your mother from PR?

The only reason I was asking is that Camacho's well-known there.
Kind of like someone from Ghana knowing who Nelson is v. American non-boxing fans.

Fact is she barely even watch boxing and knew who Camacho was but never heard of Pernell Whitaker

If that's all you have you're desperately grasping at straws. P4P means nothing. Oh, I see your mother knew who Camacho was too. This is bizarre. at best.

P4P means nothing? It means nothing that Camacho was ranked four consecutive years among the top 10 of that time as high as 2? I'm done with that statement. th

Yes, P4P means nothing. If you're reading an article recapping fighters resumes and they are listing P4P rankings as criteria( past a quick mention of someone who topped the lists), abruptly wipe your ass with it and throw it away.
Donald Curry was ranked #1 P4P, does that make him greater than Evander Holyfield?
I don't blame you for being done, your points are getting more absurd by the post.

My God, someone ranked Curry #1 P4P?
Who and when?
Over Hagler?
Damn!
(And I'm a curry fan, but come on.)
