This is an okay defence and better then Larryea,Everson or Cook defences
for sure and the guy is in most sites/governing bodies top 10 so this will do for now but Burns isn`t getting any younger and big unifactions should happen in the next 12 months
You couldnt get much worse though to be fair! Haha

If you wanted broner it would be burns v broner this weekend which would have give you plenty of time to ger ready. At least we have someone like froch who actually goes out his way to fight the toughest possible fights that the fans actually want to see.
Listen mate I don't know you or how clever you are so read this very very carefully,Ricky has been offered a fight with Broner ONCE with 7 weeks notice I think it was end jan beginning of feb this year,NEVER that means NEVER was Ricky offered Broner at SFW.
So if you can prove me wrong in any way shape or form your statement is totally way out, froch is a class act but his opponent before kessler was he of the top draw you contradictory idiot

Everyone knows you were offered the broner fight with ample time to prepare, after turning it down for the 2nd time when rees took your place you even had a fight scheduled before that fight took place (which did get cancelled). If you wanted to fight broner it would be you fighting him on sat, ffs he even called burns out on Twitter....he gave you a deadline to accept the fight or he was moving up. You made it clear you never had any intention of fighting him (despite saying you would beat him)...broner did everything on his end to make the fight happen. As for the froch comment about his oppent before kessler that's a fair point but look at the previous 8 before.....burns cv is 100 levels below

Billy, I'm not sure where you get that I'm backing anybody up! I'll choose to ignore your insults towards me this time due to the fact you're a little bit backward.

Can you enlighten us all to the two times you claim Ricky was offered Broner? Myself,Ricky and is manager must get your number because you seem to know more than Ricky does regarding his career. UNLESS YOUR TALKING PISH
Broner is a fight I'd love for Ricky so from a personal point of view I want him to lose sat and come back down in weight so the fight might get made at some point.

It's a fairly average defence, not the travesty some are making it to be.

Having a look at the top 15 in the division on Boxrec (Broner unlikely to be back at 9st 9) is hardly bursting with big names. The only three fighters that Burns would get much credit for facing are Abril, Vasquez and Gamboa. Beltran is at number 8.

Burns' list of defences at Lightweight is currently more impressive than his run in the divison below (Cook, Eversen etc).

Demarco would be a better fight i think.

There's not that many better opponents about outside of a unification fight, Beltran is in the Top 10 in the world and is a decent opponent.

When was the second offer of the Broner fight since I can only remember one at 7 weeks notice.

You have a terrible memory then billy I seem to remeber golden boy releasing a statement basically saying they were offering burns a career high purse.....you must have missed it/had your fax machine turned off. Then at 130 as soon as broner was made mandatory out of no where it was announced that burns could not make weight and was vacating. It is worth noting when he was fighting nobody's he was making weight fine. I also take it by avoiding my last statment you have no intention of fighting gamboa who is the name at 135 and would give burns his biggest pay day (with usa tv) and the most acclaim if he beats him.

Beltran's far better than the type of opponent Cleverly is fighting, he is a world class opponent. Burns should be looking to unify as soon as possible though.

Billy, is there much chance of a unification fight happening in December?

Burns was already had a fight scheduled before the proposed date making it an irrelevant excuse. His December fight fell through so it would have worked out fine

It would be a good fight, and better than Beltran, but I guarantee that if Burns beat Demarco, there would be no end of "Broner ruined him" comments from people on this former.

Also, should he ever fight and beat Vazquez, there will be a fair few "well, who had Vasquez actually beaten" style posts.

The glass is often half empty for boxing fans it would seem.

So Burns shouldn't try to fight anyone good because people will talk down his achievements anyway?

What about gamboa....guarentee if he beats him everyone will forget about him ducking broner and he will be the man to beat at 135

Er, no.

Just trying to point out the often negative nature of forumites.

I'd love to see him fight Abril or Vazquez.
