Re: Burns v Raymundo Beltran September
I heard this. Meant to be September 7th. Bit disappointed as I thought Hearn was going to deliver the big unification fights for burns now. Still he's meant to be a live contender so will sit back and see how Ricky does.
Re: Burns v Raymundo Beltran September
I have completely given up on the notion that Ricky Burns has any interest in being a top level fighter.
The worst thing is that his last fight showed he may as well roll the dice against a big money opponent because in his efforts to earn shedloads on a Calzaghe inspired model he nearly lost it all against a total nobody.

Bum of the month.
Eventually one of these guys is going to beat Burns.

Re: Burns v Raymundo Beltran September
Beltran is actually pretty entertaining. He's no Mayweather but he has a lot of heart and has got off the deck to come back and win. Mexican born and bred.
Burn's last outing against Jose Gonzalez - well he was a very slick fighter, far slicker than anyone possibly envisaged going into the bout - and thankfully he faded and quit. It didn't help that Burns was so washed-out going into the event either, having trained for two events that got canned. He looked well beaten until Gonzalez jacked it in and maybe that's why they're working Ricky back into the mix with this guy.
I think the idea must be to get Burns out regularly and back to his best. Stick a good undercard together and price the tickets sensibly given the headliner, and give the Scottish fans a night out - then probably crack on at the end of the year.

This is why ive been defending FW somewhat. People keep going on about Hearn being the saviour of british boxing but he likes to protect his fighters just as much as FW in my opinion if not more so! In interviews you see Hearn talking about how much he loves boxing and wants to put on the best fights but the truth is he just wants to line his pockets!

90% done ......................... so 10% chance it won't happen.
Enough said.
If Wazza had done this he'd get a slaughtering.

Re: Burns v Raymundo Beltran September
He's pretty mediocre to be honest. He's lost 6 times and one of those was Bogere who Richard Abril beat not that long ago and he was also knocked out in 4 rounds by Ameth Diaz who Vazquez dominated. Burns is being protected. No two ways about it.G0mez wrote:Beltran is actually pretty entertaining. He's no Mayweather but he has a lot of heart and has got off the deck to come back and win. Re: Burns v Raymundo Beltran September
So why do you think Hearn signed him when he's got the pick of whoever he wants ?
Not disagreeing with you mate but the signing surprised me.
OK he'll sell out on his home turf - but for how long ?

Re: Burns v Raymundo Beltran September
Ray Beltran is not a bum, solid but definitely not spectacular. He was good enough to beat Hank Lundy.
Re: Burns v Raymundo Beltran September
Whatever happened with Morrison, did the Board take action against him for his Facebook comments about the Muslims?

So, in a roundabout way, it's actually Wazza's fault Eddie is putting on a pretty poor fight?G0mez wrote:Beltran is actually pretty entertaining. He's no Mayweather but he has a lot of heart and has got off the deck to come back and win. Mexican born and bred.

Yeah but who has Hank Lundy ever beaten?Shirow wrote:Ray Beltran is not a bum, solid but definitely not spectacular. He was good enough to beat Hank Lundy.
Re: Burns v Raymundo Beltran September
Id of rather seen Burns in against Antonio Demarco who Hearn kept saying Rees would beat in the build up to his fight with Broner! Put your money where your mouth is! Id pick Demarco to beat Rees and he'd also give Burns a very tough fight.

Re: Burns v Raymundo Beltran September
I don't know if the fighters are to blame, the promoters or the promoters confidence in their fighters (I think it's the later)
Eddie will let Froch fight anyone because he's confident that if he doesn't win, he win put up a great fight (alla Ward) and still be a megastar name. Wazza and Hearn must know the others will eventually lose and go off the radar otherwise they'd do the same...
With Chisora and Fury (with Henessey), they have the personalities that even if they lose, they're persona's will still keep them at the top as possible cashcows. Clev and Burns, for example, don't posses the personalities to keep their names in the media if they lose

Re: Burns v Raymundo Beltran September
I have the feeling though that with Hearn its all about making these guys big names in their hometowns and then having them in stadium fights or big arena fights ie Burns and Brook and cashing in on them. However to do that they cant afford to lose, so Hearn will just keep putting them in with relatively soft opposition and cashing in basically.danconnollyeire wrote:I don't know if the fighters are to blame, the promoters or the promoters confidence in their fighters (I think it's the later)

True. Some people can be pushed in to stadium fights and others are naturally made for them (Haye, Froch, Fury)columbo wrote:I have the feeling though that with Hearn its all about making these guys big names in their hometowns and then having them in stadium fights or big arena fights ie Burns and Brook and cashing in on them. Burns is a guy who also can sell out in Scotland I think because without meaning to insult scottish boxers or fans, there isnt many top scottish boxers currently and Burns is flying the flag really.danconnollyeire wrote:True. Re: Burns v Raymundo Beltran September
Shocker didn't see this burns fighting an absolute nobody in a fight that literally no one cares about. I take it gamboa was busy and any other meaningfull opponent for that matter?
Re: Burns v Raymundo Beltran September
I am a big fan of Eddie, but this isn't supposed to be what he is about and I am a bit disappointed
That being said it is probably wise from his P.O.V to see Burns put a solid performance in, before putting him in with the top names. Get him going into a bigger fight in good form.
