Well, they got unlucky with Dodson and Steven Smith getting injured. Smith actually had a worthwhile opponent if I remember correctly and Fielding v Dodson would have been a good fight in Liverpool.

So, not really Columbo. Keep on moaning about everything and anything though pal :TU:
You're quite happy to moan when it's a warren show and a Frankie Gavin opponent. Slight double standards and hypocrisy there :TU:
Excuse me? If people are going to continually talk about Gavin as the second coming, then I'm sorry it stands to reason I expect him to fight better, and go in with better people than he has. Especially when the same people are always digging Brook out.

To be honest I think you would struggle to find many quotes from me on here that criticise Warren shows, especially shows that have fallen apart through injury. I don't like the guy, I don't understand why people give him a pass, but I don't spend 3/4 of my time criticising him. Matchroom do lots right, but people are determined to effing tear them apart at every opportunity, it's weird. Its a massive overcompensation in Warren support imo. One thing in life is sure for me - I can come on boxrec and see a thread where Columbo is moaning about ANYTHING Matchroom related. Do I start threads moaning about everything Warren?

Listen mate you seem a nice enough guy, and are certainly harmless, but f*ck me do you moan about everything.
That is double standards, you can't complain about people hyping up Frankie Gavin and criticise his opponents, when you do the same for Kell Brook.

I think quite a few times I have said even I have been frustrated about how slow Brooks progress has been, but that I can accept it seeing as it was to position for a mandatory. If we are comparing last fights, then we are comparing Senchenko to Bradley Pryce.

Really poor card now. Smith was the only 50/50 on the card. Hopefully Hearn doesn't start neglecting these shows now he's concentrating on Froch groves. All he had to do was make Smith v Fielding to save the show

I think both Frankie and Kell are in similar positions, with Kell being slightly further on in his career, both are looking for world title fights, Brook's mandatory, Gavin's being moved towards a mandatory position, starting in Newcastle. Both are behind schedule, albeit for different reasons, injuries for Kell, problems outside the ring for Frankie, by a year or two and it's time they kicked on and got themselves into big fights, sink or swim time for both men.

I agree with you. Brook would have probably already had his title fight by now had Alexander beat Porter, its painful how long it's taking. I mean it has taken well over a year out of his probable prime, it's not his fault though, and I can sympathise with the promoter when the shot is there and has been for over a year.

He's had 5 world title eliminators, 2 of them final eliminators, for 2 different belts, the first of which came 4 years ago, has had 3 world title fights scheduled and he still hasn't fought for a world title, can't even begin to imagine how frustrating that must be, if the suggestions that he doesn't always live the life are true, who could blame him for being a bit disillusioned with boxing after all that.

To be fair to flash Eddie he does his best to replace fights that fall due to injuries. Obviously hard to match fighters with less than 2 weeks notice. He said in the ifltv interview he's still trying to make another title fight for the bill. I would like to see Joshua even if it is just knock over job.

I can only imagine. I think after the second injury (and thus losing) the Alexander fight he must have taken some encouraging. That will have been rock bottom, watching Purdy fight your world title fight (and seeing Alexander look pretty poor). I am like everybody, I just want to see them fighting the big fights, either way I will be relieved when this title shot is over, whatever the result, and everybody can move onto other options.

I get the impression that he cares for the most part, as much as any promoter can.

So why didn't he make Smith v Fieldinf when everything else was falling apart? The "title" fight he's trying to make is Smith v Webb for an intercontinental belt as the bbboc rightly deemed it wasn't a good enough fight for the British title

Exactly.

Nice little fight that, but it doesn't need building up as if it's Rocky -v- Drago or something.

Unless either boxer doesn't want it because they are mates (both boxed out of Rotunda) then there is no reason why this fight cannot be made for this bill.

I think that's the key point. I don't recall either Smith or Fielding talking up fighting the other, despite the fact it seems like a massively obvious fight to make. I suspect one or both don't want it, which is disappointing.

I've tried to generally have a positive outlook towards Matchroom's approach over the last 18 months, but this card is horseshit. Brook and Mitchell's fights are pointless, as is Smith vs Webb.

Is Callum Smith fighting or not?

And he turned down Bradley. Hearn said it was because he didn't like the options which is code for Bradley spanks brook any day of the week I think we will sit and hold tight for the easier option (Alexander)

He should have took the 1st shot offered, he didn't, waited around for the easier option and look what happened he is fighting some mexican nobody. If he beat Bradley he would have catipulted himself in thd pound for pound list and got himself a mega fight, look who Bradley is fighting next, it could have been brook.

Smith vs Fielding is planned for the Froch vs Groves bill sadly.

Be very surprised if that fight is made outside of Liverpool.

How was Brook to know the injury nightmare which awaited him. Beating Alexander for the title wouldn't have done him much harm.

No he shouldn't. What a ridiculous thing to say. Fighters take maybe a decade and a half or two decades of their lives getting to the point where they get a world title opportunity in their chosen sport - and that's just the few who get that far. Making the right choice at the right time is the most important decision they'll make.

Hindsight makes experts of everyone. Obviously Kell Brook has had a lot of ups and downs but he's unbeaten, he's the IBF number one contender, he's 27 years old, and he'll get a world title fight this year. There are worse positions to be in.

Dont get me wrong i agree with you about the reasoning but it just shows you whats wrong with boxing when fighters turn down concrete title oppurtunities to wait on fights maybe coming off,Paul Smith has no divine right to be fighting for a European title let alone world honours likewhat his team are mooting

If Fielding is willing to fight then maybe he,s made from sterner stuff than Smith, coz lets be honest their on the same level at the moment

If Smith does want to go down the International/Intercontinental route fighting Argies to get a ranking, fair enough but give the fans what they demand first i say :box:
Exactly right. No wonder fans gets turned off the sport.

the only reason he shouldnt and didnt is because there are so many tin pot titles around. so he waited to become an easier 'world champion'

this card is dreadful, i doubt i'll even watch. snoozefest written all over it.

I don't think you really appreciate options. Given the choice between being a world champ who can plot his own course, or being a world champ with options to the camp of the dethroned champ, no boxer on the planet would choose the latter.
