Im a huge fan of hatton as people are aware but I while I appreciate your staunch support of the Hitman you must be aware of some worrying trends that are appearing,

I think that Hatton is demotivated by his level of opponents, pinto dropping out, then the mess with Mesquita and Vilches and the date change.

Hatton was commentating 3 weeks before his due fight on the 5th on Sky and he had more chins than bernard manning. He never was gonna make the weight for the 5th.

So much for his new dietry regime to stop him ballooning in between fights.

So much for all his fans that bought tickets on for the 5th.

Ricky isnt blameless in all this and while I remain a huge fan I cant just sit here and listen to how great this and that...he needs to prove it now cos I feel that he, himself may well be doubting what he can achieve.

i hope I am wrong but the above warning signs should set alarm bells ringing.

I have not seen anything in his performances that suggests he could not beat the top guys, I think he can be them all. It is not all about who you have fought, sometimes you have to look at technique and skills too, even if they have not faced the best. I feel that Hatton's flurry of punches to head and body could overwhelm most fighters out there, he is not the hardest puncher, but it is the volume that stops good fighters.
So bring on Harris he will be stopped.
Hell, bring on Tszyu, Mitchell, Cotto, Mayweather there is not reason Hatton cant beat them all. Just because his promoter has not secured him the fights doesn't mean he isn't as good as well all thought he was a couple of years ago.
Also it is nice to have a fighter that doesn't talk shit, he knows he is good, but doesn't rub your face in it, the man is an abassador, or would be if he was more of a poster boy.
Sometimes you have to support and have faith, not just moan.
I agree with the sentiment 100%..but can I ask
Exactly which good (respectively good amongst their piers I mean)fighters has Hatton stopped?

Ok, we can talk about skills all day, he can beat him, he can't beat him and so forth.

But when you mention Tszyu, Mitchell, Cotto, Mayweather and Harris, you are mentioning guys who have stepped to the plate time and time again.
It is only then you can judge skills, talent, heart and the whole package.
You say ". It is not all about who you have fought"...but unfortunately it IS about who you have fought...It is how a fighter is judged and remembered. That is fundamental.

People have labelled me a stern critic of Hatton, which is true...What is also true is that I wholeheartedly wish Richard Hatton all the luck in the world with his career, and hope he is successful.
I think he can be.

This was a pretty good fight but not the cracker it was made out to be. Holdsworth once again irritated with his nonsense. Harris does indeed look dangerous, I think if he took on Hatton it would be a great, competitive fight. I would favour Harris though. Obviously it won't happen.

Cotto/Harris will happen however, and that also will be good. I think Cotto's all round skills will be slightly too much for Harris but he'll give Miguel all manner of problems along the way.

This proabbly needs a new thread.

OK hatton has not stopped any great fighters , but that was my point, I believe he can, I think he is being held back, but he is young. I rate him alongside the best in the division because even a padded record isn't easy to notch up to the level he is at, and he has fought some very handy guys along the way (Magee, Tackie, phillips etc) and because I am a supporter. I am also not worried by his chins he was wearing a tight suit and maybe was on the beer the night before and that swelled up his face. He is a professional and I doubt he would come into a fight unprepared. The fights will come.

As for the footy, well I think we follow the same team mate, but I have faith that the greatest team will rise again, although my reasons are for another forum.

sorry mate but being so out of shape you delay the even by a week isnt professional.
Im not here to knock Ricky I was going on the 5th and I went in april but basically he and the promoters fucked it with me til they find somone decent. Im not gonna spend a monkey to go up to manc to watch sub standard fair.

He wont have calzaghe / johnson to get him and the bill out the shit everytime.

Im a supporter for sure but I dont think what is happening to hatton is good for him at present, ballooning up in between fights, fighting mediocre oppoenents, the former will shorten his career the latter impact on his motivation addtionally his style is not condusive to a long pro career anyway.

You can still be a supporter and criticise.

I will still cheer ricky on for now from my armchair til he gets a decent world class genuine light welter to fight him I will go to the MEN and give my full support. But not until then. (And spadafora does not cut it in my view).

It's lucky you don't work for Bernard Manning then.

I always use "He's got so many chins it looks like he's looking at you over a pile of crumpets".

based on the fact bernard manning is a fat facist twat, I think Im safe of retribution on the pc front from him.

could go the black adder route "more chins than chin museum during national chin week" - (adapted from "Ive never been in such a sticky situation since sticky the stick insect got stuck on a sticky bun" haha classic)

jeez i need some sleep.

100% Ricky will not fight Harris anytime soon if ever. His sharp jab would rip Rickys skin to shreds while that big lightning right could knock him cold. I can't imagine Warren ever taking a risk against a fighter that dangerous.

Kilburn, you need to see the rest. I was very dissapointed in him. I'd favour Hatton to beat him strongly, just like Urkal did.

I'm also of the opinion that Holdsworth was miles out in his interpretation of this one.

I had Harris winning comfortably on the scorecard, but always tricky to pin Urkal down for more than two seconds at a time. Oktay adds new meaning to the phrase"in and way". He's practically backing off before he thinks about unloading! Must be the Ottke influence.

Can't see allegedly bringing Harris over to fight Hatton, even though I'd give Ricky a good chance of beating Vivian.

Not one of Steve's better nights. He was fluent in his dominant language....rubbish.

Why would you favour Hatton? Remember Urkal is tough and quicker than Hatton and he was still hurt on many occasions. Urkal pushed Tszyu close. Harris is 5'10 and looks pretty big, he was manhandling Urkal at times. Those fast hard jabs and big right hands would give Ricky nightmares. I couldn't really see Ricky stopping him either. I don't think Ricky could walk through the fire that even Urkal took, Rickys less mobile as well than Urkal, Ricky could get hurt.

Lefthook, some valid points.

I just didn't like Harries' workrate, he seemed flummuxed by Urkal, who fought at a much higher workrate than normal. I don't think Harries showed awesome power, yeah he did put Urkal down, but in no other occasion was he wobbled. One thing Hatton has proven against Bigger punchers (Phillips and Tackie) that he can take a shot and walk through hard punches. Why couldn't he do that with Harries?

Urkal is a world class operator and should be a world champion (and I'm not saying Hatton would beat him). However, IMO Urkal struggled more with Magee, in a closer fight, than he did with Harries.

Sure, I'm not saying Harries is a bad fight, but for me is clearly the weakest champion.

It was not as if Urkal fought his normal way, he tried to out work Harries for the most part as well the in an out tactics. For me, in the middle rounds he outworked the champion. Hatton hits a damn sight harder than the Turk.

In a word "workrate". But that's not to discount all the postives that Vivian Harris brings to the table.

Oh yeah, it would be a good fight - fantastic infact. But I would be placing a few bucks on Ricky.

urkal was throwing speedy combinations but a lot of the time he was throwing them as if he wanted to get out of striking distance before he even landed the punch if you know what i mean. As a result he missed quite a lot whilst harris's jab was getting the target. I swear holdsworth was watching a different fight and his commentating was right pissin me off - he seemed to be ignoring the fact that harris was landing punches.

This is is exactly why we get so pissed off at the way Hatton's career is going. Comparative results against the likes of Tackie and Phillips are proof that Hatton is in the Premier League.
