I was always a Pac Man fan, and really don't like Floyd much, but it's clear to me that Pac Man is to blame this happened too late. Refusing to take the tests, and I think we can guess why...now he's presumably conquered his $40 million dollar fear of needles - he's come clean, so to speak, just in time to collect his retirement fund.
I have to say, not roids, but it definitely looks like Manny has been on the HGH - his head is like a bowling ball, and that massive jaw and brow - same with Marquez.

It's only conjecture, but In a sense, I can't blame Floyd for wanting the testing.

Floyd still looks much the same, just a bit bigger, and not musclebound, he's certainly not a big welterweight, whereas pacman looks shredded.

They have been lining their pockets for years 'by not' fighting each other.

I think that moment has passed, Manny isn't that guy any more, but here's the thing.

Floyd has slowly turned into B-hop, less and less shots, more and more potshotting, and defensive masterwork, and the fact is, if they finally do fight, it will ALL be on the line legacy wise. I think Pacman can get up for this fight, in a way he hasn't for many years.

Manny has reached the point where he is no longer hungry financially, and doesn't want to hurt people, but he knows that a fight with Floyd represents his legacy, and even at this stage, when both men are past their prime, Manny arguably more so, there's still the potential for a great fight.

People underestimate Floyd's toughness, and also his punchpower - much like Pernell Whitakker. Nobody gets to the eschelons Floyd has, without being able to tough it out now and then, and also hit hard enough to keep your opponent honest.

It's still a great fight - it probably won't produce the fireworks it would have done 5-6 years ago, but make no mistake, it's still between two future hall of famers, and ATG's, and there's a huge amount on the line.

I think this fight may surprise people, in what is on show. Floyd could turn puncher, many turn boxer, anything could happen, it still has that x-factor. Yes I wish it had happened at the point it should have done, but will I tune in, will I pay to see it - your bet your sweet ass I will.

Nice post.

I still think the formline in the last 12 months says that it is Floyd has less in the tank than Manny. Manny last two outings, he has looked as close to his best for many a year. He is younger than Floyd, and I think the relatively easy night he had vs Rios revitalised him a tad. That was the first time in many a year where he his opponent was given next to no chance and I think the less intense camp has helped his longevity.

Floyd has waited years for Manny to deteriorate. I personally will find it hilarious if Floyd has waited so long that it backfires and it is his strengths that have atrophied the most - and that frail looking chin lets him down if/when Manny transacts.

Like Lewis/Tyson it will be a macarbe night, but anyone who claims they won't be watching is a liar.

This is still a fight I'd like to see but the appeal has diminished. Part of it is that the fighters aren't what they were, as so many have said already, but its also dragged on so long its gone from frustrating to tedious.

I don't think it will be like Lewis -v- Tyson, because neither one of them is a dozen years past their best & shot to buggery like Tyson was & neither will be a timid as Lewis was.

I think it will be more like Leonard -v- Hagler: two faded greats meeting around about five years too late & embarking on an unremarkable fight, but a massive event that will be discussed for years to come.

It's not as meaningful as it was a few years back, but I'd still watch.

Is there going to be white smoke coming out of the chimney at The Vatican when Mayweather Jr makes the announcement?

Me too.

In any case both are well past their best and the appeal is half was it was five or six years ago.

Similar, although Floyd's chimney will dispense dollar bills & Manny's chimney will throw out basketballs.

Leonard and Hagler was a great, great fight!

Surely you mean Leonard/Hearns II, or Leonard/Duran III? To call Leonard and Hagler "faded" in 1987, and dismiss the bout as "unremarkable", are mind boggling views.

There's another thread confirming the bout for May 2nd (hope it's not a false rumour).

It would have been magnificent 3-5 years ago but it's still a marvelous bout between 2 fantastic boxers.

Imagine Froch vs Chavez Jr as chief support - I'm not sure I could cope with it all, I'd probably die of excitement during the build-up!

We all have opinions & I am of the opinion that Hagler was faded by 1987; he had no speed left & the fight itself was mostly unremarkable.

It wasn't a poor fight by any stretch, but if it wasn't Leonard -v- Hagler, or 2 other similar & legendary ATGs, nobody would give it a second thought today.

In respect of Leonard -v- Duran 3; that was a joke & a piss poor fight.

Leonard -v- Hearns 2 was actually a decent contest & I think it was a better fight than Leonard -v- Hagler; but it certainly was not as big an event.
