Has Manny v Floyd lost it's appeal??

When JMM banged him out & despite coming back I thought it's had it.

It's not what it was. The casuals will be more excited I think.

Got a couple of mates who are creaming themselves over the potential fight, talking about trying to get tickets etc
I'm not particularly fussed. Not sure it's that relevant now, other than to line their pockets and create a massive event. I have always thought Floyd beats him, with a little bit to spare but now I think Pac has virtually no chance.

I'd obviously still watch it, but it's definitely lost it's true mega-fight status for me. Not particularly because Manny got sparked by JMM, just that both fighters seem way past their best now.

What evidence is there to suggest that FM is way past his best?

That makes it pretty relevant.

It's lost some appeal, but they're still among the sport's elite and I'd love to see the fight. It would also attract unparalleled press, generate interest outside hardcore fans, and significantly add to the legacy of the winner. Which fights would involve a higher level of competitors? Which fights would more publicized? Reading some posts here and on other forums one could get the sense that it's a run-of-the-mill bout when it would probably be the richest fight in boxing history and involve two ATG's who not only have a famous rivalry but are generally still considered among the best three fighters in the world

If it happens it will be 5 years too late, but Manny is still probably the biggest threat to Floyd style wise.

Still both top 5 P4P. No 1 + No 2 in the welterweight division. That alone surely means its still a relevant fight. Not quite the appeal of 5 years ago, but cant see another fight which would match it for 'mega-fight' status.

It should of happened in 09 after manny destroyed Ricky. It didn't and manny got beat again and floyd is just older.

It's still interesting and there isn't many better than manny these days. For floyd it's a money spinner and he won't stop bleating if he wins which I think he wil. Would rather see if khan can beat floyd though but seems as that won't happen

I disagree with this last part. I would still rather see Mayweather v Pacquiao than Khan. It would still be a huge worldwide event which would only be good for boxing. They still have the styles to produce an engaging fight as well as being able to provide a riveting build up.

It would also hopefully show the rest of the boxing world how beneficial it is for the very best to fight the very best.

It would have been amazing 5 years ago; it's still a massive bout and Manny will push Floyd very hard, he's a fierce competitor but Floyd is too big for him. Manny has had 4 tremendous battles with Marquez and Floyd outclassed him. I hope the bout comes off but it's not worth the money both will be paid.

Perfect summary. Right after Manny beat Hatton would have been the perfect time in terms of anticipation and excitement.

6 months after he beat Hatton he took out Cotto which I didn’t think possible. I thought one Cotto left hook to the body would break Pacquiao in half. If the Mayweather fight had been announced then for May 2010 my head might have exploded and I would have swum & walked to Vegas if necessary.
I voted yes as it has lost it’s appeal just because it’s so much less appealing than it would have been in 2010. It’s still an interesting fight that I’d like to see but I won’t be bothered if it never happened now.

Watching Floyd against Hatton the other day, it's obvious he's not what he was. He looked a lot sharper than he did against Madiana. The question is can Manny keep up that kind of swarming work-rate?

Still a great fight and event, possibly PPV over here? It'll be the biggest fight money-wise of all time.

The fact that both of them have slowed down might make it more interesting, just with an actual lower quality fight. Manny will attack and Floyd will roll and counter. I wouldn't be surprised if Manny wins a decision, he'll be the one cheered and everyone wants Mayweather to lose. I can see it being that close.

It's relevant and would gain mass exposure etc... But it's no longer of interest to me personally. Both guys got greedy and I hope they miss out on the gigantic payday the fight would have been. I'd rather support guys like Roman Gonzalez, Naoya Inoue and Terence Crawford, men who are happy to take on challenges rather than further line the pockets of the men who have pissed about the last 5 years.

It will prob still be a good, important fight but it's 3 years too late.
And closer to their peaks PAC went life and death and ended up being knocked cold by JMM when JMM did not win a round against PBF

Whilst not quite the appeal when both were looking like not just the best P4P currently (for me they are both still the top 2 P4P) but a country mile the top two fighters in the world, in some ways Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2015 is MORE appeal now than in 2008.

Why? IMO (and I know its different to the general consensus) Floyd is aging more so than Pacquiao and for me its a harder fight to call now than when both were in their primes.

People say now Khan's speed would now give Floyd problems as his reflexes have slowed, Pac still looked pretty quick handed against Algieri.

Even though I would favour Floyd still (just not going to write him off), I definitely think he is aging quicker than Pac. I'd be less confident picking Floyd over Khan as I would Pac Man over Khan.

I think people forget that for 5 rounds vs JMM in the 4th fight, Pac was putting on his most dominant performance in ANY period other than the first round of their first fight.

I think it's more a case of the speculation about the fight has lost its appeal. If the fight is made interest will soar.

Its definitely lost some appeal since Manny was chinned by Marquez but if it happens it will still be huge.
