Sounds like the thumb is only a 4 week set-back for Lucas Browne. Also airs some laundry in the video. Browne says is heading back to Perth and feels he has wasted the past 9 months in Sydney. Also no longer wants to fight on the inside the way Fenech wants him to. So sounds of the winds of change blowing >>>

October the 17th has now been confirmed for Chagaev and Oquendo.

Browne has had the break confirmed by a doctor and has his thumb in a splint. But just a matter of waiting for the bone to knit. No operation required.

Lucas Browne says he needs another fight before the end of the year. But has to get the thumb right first :

“It’s nice to be offered the fight with Hughie Fury on such a big event, but it’s not something I'm considering at the moment with my hand the way it is,” Browne confirmed.

“I believe Chagaev is fighting Oquendo in October, so basically my world title shot should be early 2016. I just need a second tune-up before the end of the year.”

Lucas has taken to twitter to defend his last performance, thumb, 7'1" opponent etc. He shouldn't have bothered, the only thing we care about is when he beats a name opponent. I hope he does, and soon.Another schmuck as a warm up just does more harm to his reputation

Browne would be better off giving twitter a miss.

October 17th seems to feature in all the recent articles about the upcoming Chagaev vs Oquendo fight. They have even named a venue. But still it doesn't sound like it has been signed off on. Probably little wonder when you consider the contract for their last fight ended up being challenged in court. This one is likely to be very carefully worded and checked and rechecked by both sides.

Yes considering he doesn't seem to handle knockers on there all that well.

I was hoping for a bit more from him last fight considering he was talking up all of his improvements while training with Fenech.

I understand he had a broken thumb but he still takes way too many hits and doesn't thrown nearly enough jabs. He can't rely on biding his time looking for a stoppage he needs to get points on the board too..

Browne won't be with Fenech much longer by the sound of things. Assuming they haven't parted ways already.

Browne would do well to try another path. I think if he goes down the WBA route, he is likely to be tooled up by Chageav who is very much underrated these days.

I think the die is cast now and Browne is destined to fight Chagaev.

What other path? Surely Chagaev is his only chance at a "title", however small that chance is

Alex Leapai got a shot by beating Boytsov.

I think he should try for the WBC belt. I am sure he could get Wilder to give him a shot (do I think Wilder will agree to fight Povetkin? Do I coco!).

At one stage there was some talk of Tyson Fury vs Lucas Browne. But I read overnight Fury claiming if he loses to Wlad he will retire. Hard to see him beating Wlad - though I'd like to see it. The heavyweight division sure needs a shake up.

I think this is the easiest path for him, obviously not Wlad and I think Wilder would beat him...

Finally Chagaev and Oquendo has a firm date attached to it.

http://www.BS.com/?m=show&opt= ... e&id=95532

The ordered rematch between WBA 'regular' heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev (34-2-1, 21KOs) and challenger Fres Oquendo (37-8, 24KOs) has been confirmed for October 17th in Kiel, Germany, according Chagaev's promoter Timur Dugazaev.

The winner of Chavez-Oquendo II must make an immediate title defense against Lucas Browne (23-0, 20KOs).

Browne will need another fight before meeting Chagaev next year. I suspect his next fight will be in the UK.

Browne needs to get back in the ring ASAP. Sprott/Sexton/Skelton would give him a decent fight (Sexton might be a bit too dangerous though).

I suspect Browne will be continued along the path of very little risk right up until his fight with the winner of Chagaev and Oquendo. The vibe coming from his camp seems to be that he may not ever get another chance so take as little risk at jeopardizing it as possible.

Big Daddy does need a bit more ring time as he was very rusty in his last bout. Putting him in cotton wool won't help him!

I'm sure he will get ring time prior to his title tilt. But it won't be stiff opposition.

Barring Joe Parker, who would you select as a local opponent for Lucas Browne if you were a promoter?

There isn't an obvious answer to that question.

Also interesting that only 11 days out from the said/supposed October 17th fight date, there is no listing for Chagaev vs Oquendo in Boxrec.

CHAGAEV vs OQUENDO - CALLED OFF

Fres Oquendo has, according to the Sparkassen Arena in Kiel (Germany), pulled out of the fight against WBA "regular" heavyweight champ Ruslan Chagaev, due to illness.

The fight was scheduled for October 17 at the Sparkassen Arena in Kiel (Germany). All tickets are refunded.

Where Oquendo's withdrawal leaves things is interesting, and will now be dependent on whether or not the WBA insist that Browne now gets his shot at Chagaev first.

According to later reports it is a shoulder injury that has caused Fres Oquendo to withdraw.

"He injured his shoulder sparring, which has been confirmed by an MRI," Square Ring CEO John Wirt, Oquendo's co-promoter with Bobby Hitz, told ESPN.com on Tuesday.

"Technically, it is a likely anterior lateral tear. I haven't heard yet how long he's going to be out, but I have been hearing that surgery may be required.

Should Oquendo require surgery, as suggested above, surely that is the green light for Lucas Browne vs Chagaev??
