I met Barry late 80's he was very hospitable , friendly and helpful.
Met him mid 90's and he remembered me, still friendly and still seemed a decent fella.
I cant associate him with this smirking knowall yob that he seems to have morphed into.

I've never met Barry and am not qualified to offer an opinion on his personality.

Did just look on Wikipedia, and his first name is down as Finbar!

He seems like a very arrogant person, I cringe at some of the things he says and his behaviour.

I remembers site ing to him on Talksport on a special about his career. Was brilliant and he came across well.

Not sure if he is anymore but he used to be business partners with a total scummy prick local to me. Civil engineering firm.
During this whole debacle, he has embarassed himself. Real cringeworthy at times.

yeah hes in it cos hes irish, what shit, maybe you meant because he was born in ireland, and helped in a small way to unite the catholic and protestant comunities in the 6 counties through their mutual support for him in the sport of boxing during "the troubles". but it certainly wasnt just because he was irish.

That's what I meant. His impact on the issues at the time. That's why he is in there, nothing to do with his boxing ability or achievements really. If he is the benchmark for the hall of fame in terms of boxing, there would be 200 more fighters in there

I naively thought i was the only one who noticed he uses far too many big words

Ive mentioned on here before that i was named after him(Barry not Finbar thankfully) My Dad was a big fan of his and told me that he was world champ the year i was born but having grown up and checked myself years later i noticed that he didnt beat Pedroza until the year after i was born

Not sure exactly how big a "fan" the old man really was

He seemed to become a little more humble on tv.

Now of course he"s been a great advisor to frampton and his son.

I thought his hof induction was very charasmatic he was mcguigan the fighter again.seeing him up there with stallone and the others was very entertaining.

Being Irish and having family from Clones where McGuigan was from, and had a 2nd cousin that went to the same gym as McGuigan in Clones, I followed McGuigan in his amateur and professional career.

He was seen as a hero that strove to unite all differences in the north of Ireland. Living in London when he turned professional, I went to all his fights in England including Pedrosa. I then went to Vegas to see the Cruz fight.

I don't pretend to know McGuigan but I managed to sneak into a press only conference in Vegas when McGuigan was doing his "thank you Mr Eastwood" routine. Seeing him speak those things live after sparring sessions without the emotion/adenaline of a fight. it was obvious the "thank you Mr Eastwood" routine was all a calculated show.

Like I say I don't know McGuigan but after seeing that he could change his personna when he wanted, sadly I wouldn't be surprised at his "alternative ego".

I just said that Barry tries to talk in a way to make himself appear more intelligent than he probably is, often using words that are ill-fitting and often not ones you hear spoken but which are often typed. And in what you quoted, I was explaining that "discombobulate" was just one example.
