glad he has . as a fan enjoyed a lot of his fights, the jamie Moore tear up, but the strum fight is a big gutter he never got that decision. then on paddys day against Martinez in new york ,i had a patriot bet on him at huge odds and was going wild when macklin put Martinez down, thought it was suspect , i had a skin full by then and enjoyed it, down hill from there , never disappointed , goes down as a favourite of mine thanks for the memories

I'm surprised, I was actually expecting him to push for a match vs Smith for Smith's trinket after he beat Rose. He'd have stood a good chance of winning too.

I don't remember Macklin embracing the Irish thing earlier in his career? Was it something he adopted late? I can't remember him making a big deal of it early on.

He did seem to make a business decision to push the irish angle.

His association with known gangsters gave them some legitimacy and bringing that into the game has given him a bad reputation amongst most of the irish boxing people i speak to anyway.

I noticed the Irish accent for the first time just before the challenge to Sergio Martinez on st Patrick's day a few years ago. Strong performance from Macklin but Martinez just went up an extra gear, did that champion thing.

He certainly had a Brummie accent at the time of the classic with Moore, without a hint of an Irish accent in interviews. One of the all time great UK battles.

He had a good, short prime at middleweight. The Elcock and Asikainen KOs were great work. And maybe he should've held a world title given his strong showing against Sturm.

I felt he lost to Rose, had nothing to celebrate. Rose was always wrong for him IMO and the fact he was fighting Rose shows there isn't much for him.
