Barrerra would have caught him like that anytime for me. In naz,s defence barrerra had to change the game plan up for him which does say something about naz. Cause his power would have probably taking barrerra out in a shootout. Great fighter naz but dont think he was ever beating the very top guys. All of them could have changed up the game plan. Marquez would have probably beaten him best for me. But morales would have been the best fight imo.
Sorry pal, but I watched him train for many years. The reason he started getting caught was because he wasn't training like he did when he was younger. He was that good that he got away with it for years. Naz ruled supreme at a time when Barrera was getting his ar$e handed to him by Junior Jones.
I ll take your word for it mate. You sure it wasnt because of the mediocre competition? Didnt exactly rule supreme. Some good wins but never beat a single elite level fighter.
Around what point did he stop training the right way?

We probably wouldn't have Boxrec if it wasn't for Naz. John used to work for Prince Promotions and he wasn't a boxing fan prior to watching a Naz fight. Now let Naz enjoy his food

He beat all the other featherweight champions at the time by knockout.
When he hit the money at the age of 20. He only trained for 3 weeks before the Robinson fight.

Yeah, you could have the gloves mounted on the wheelchair, and they could have someone else operating the gloves whilst they moved themselves round the ring.
Actually sod the gloves, they should have angle grinders, rocket launchers and flame throwers.

He was an exceptional talent. You don't make 15 defences of your world title and take out multiple world champions without being special. anyone would like a resume like that. It is a testament to how good he was that people think he didn't achieve much.
I can spot a lemon and I can spot an exceptional talent, and he was very much the latter and not the former.
I've really enjoyed watching Naz hanging out with his old team from the Ingle camp this week. Great to see.
Looking forward to watching Kell on the scales today and then tomorrow. It is going to be a cracking fight, I think. He will pose as lot of problems. A good Ingle fighter will give anyone problems, and Kell is a superb Ingle fighter.

yep he was a special talent, once he hit the big time though he just neglected the basics and tried to force the ko with single shots which however good you are will only take you so far until you slip up, lack of ring IQ and an unwillingness to listen ultimately cost him

He under achieved. Only because he was THAT good he could have done so much more.
His resume always gets unfair criticism for me. He beat some very good fighters, Medina for example went on to win a world title about 5 years after Naz had knocked him over about 3-4 times and stopped him, with a terrible cold.
Kelley - lost once in 47 fights, Naz KO'd inside 4 rounds, in Kelley's backyard.
Ingle, Robinson, Soto, Bungu, McCullough - all solid wins even if some of the performances weren't the best.
Around 96 Naz would have knocked out MAB.
Prime for Prime, close fight, MAB on points for me, too smart.
However, this doesn't make Naz a bad fighter. An excellent fighter just shy of a great for me.

Its all that rice with walnuts and sheep he has been eating. Yemeni cooking is delicious.
Naz probably starts off with a nice lentil soup which will be rich with butter swimming with it. Maybe some cheese fried sambousseks or 5 on the side.Than the main course.......a huge lamb shank stuffed with vegetables up its arse and baked..the rice cooked in lamb stock and oils with delicate spices and walnuts and cashew nuts and raisons...maybe a fillet of cod in there too....washed down with Arabian vimto which has 5 times the sugar and richness.....than to polish it off some Lebanese crème caramel........and mint tea to ensure naz is regular

....eating that kind of banquet three times a day u can imagine naz is very contented and long may he be......he starved himself for 20 years.....hes a good lad, I respect him so much more now as a fighter......hes worth 80 million quid and doesn't buy into that celebrity culture crap at all.......respect to naz.
Still I wonder if he sssshits in a bidet which is wider and can support his weight or if his toilet is heavy duty.....given how round and wide his arrse is these days.....its probably a full stretching workout reaching for the toilet roll......that's the other thing....the bigger he is.....the more he must eat......therefore by Isaac newtons laws he must ssshit more too......he probably has to use 2 whole rolls every time he goes in the ssshiter...

Financially and artistically his career was a huge success...but for the true boxing fan it was a huge disappointment imho as he could have fought a Marquez in 96/97 but didn't....around 98 onwards...guys like freitas, mayweather, corralles, casamayor and even mosley represented what was available to him as a big featherweight.....hell even lighter guys like tapia and ayala represented better than he had beat.......he did come along at the right time....the featherweight division had been very weak at the top level for 5 years with guys like hodkinson ,vaquez, and robinson and Johnson long time champions in that era.....these guys cant hold a candle to barerra or morales

absolutely, Vazquez was a three weight champ who'd comfortably outboxed Orlando Canizales and was a bit unlucky vs the brilliant Miguel Lora. Kelley a former champ who earned his Naz shot in a Boxing After Dark classic with Derrick Gainer. Johnson and Medina fine fighters, just look at their rivalry together. Ingle went on to win a crown also and Robinson was on one hell of a streak after beating Davison and Hodkinson.
Naz sometimes looked great, sometimes messy, and sometimes was in sensational shootouts. But 15 defenses is a brilliant achievement. I think the only featherweight of his era he didn't take on was Luisito Espinosa, that would've been exciting.

How wrong they were.
Naz was 27 and had like Tyson reached a peak and than neglected his skills for a good 3 years.....Its very sad as Naz looked sensational spectacular in beating good b and c level fighters like robinson, Johnson, Kelly, sanchez, hardy etc....the signs were there tho even at his peak that he was a different beast versus a higher level such as the 11 rounds with manuel medina.

Vazquez was a legendary Puerto Rican 3 weight champion who was in his 3rd year as a champion. Tom Johnson was in his 5th year as a champion. Naz was knocking out everybody.
He wanted to box Barrera and travelled to watch him, but Barrera got beat up by Junior Jones in Jones' first defence and then his second defence, before Jones lost to Kennedy McKinney in his next fight. At that time Barrera was miles behind Naz.
Brendan Ingle used to tell a schoolboy Naz that the only person who could beat him was himself and that unfortunately is what happened.

Naz was a great star in the 90's and brought British boxing into the forefront of peoples minds, along with Benn and Eubank absolutely brilliant entertainer in his day, still brings a smile to my face when doing IFLtv interviews. As far as being fat who give a toss good luck to him.

There isn't the same stigma to being obese in Arab culture than there is in the west. You see some huge units in the Middle East but nobody shames them or anything... for a man to be fat over there - it means he has means. Nobody would blink twice - well, maybe in the Yemen but in UAE or Saudi, he would be a common sight.
That honey Riath is selling is fornicating expensive, I was about to buy a jar made in Oman but it was going to come to 40 fornicating quid - fornicate that shit.

You wonder how he would have done in the days of one champ and sturdy challengers. The first well-rounded fighter at his peak massacred him. A brilliant talent though.

Naz went through all the featherweight champions and knocked them out.
Barrera beat a shell of that fighter by 3 points on 2 judges cards.

He picked them as and when he pleased. Barrera well beat him, giving credence to the cards of Vegas Judges is naive to say the least.

The judges really had it 9-3, 8-4, and 8-4 in terms of who got the better of the action, and I think 8 rounds is the minimum you could reasonably have for Barrera.
I had him winning 9-3 and also thought he won those rounds bigger than Naz won his.

It was indeed a wide decision. If the young, fresh Hamed was a "shell" when Barrera beat him, God only knows what sort of pulse Kelley, Boom boom et al had. I like fighters like Mike Tyson, who romp through the champs all at once - not these conniving sorts who sit on a B-class title, milk it at home and wait for a champ to reach a certain age, or scrape through a defence. For how many years was J.M. Marquez Hamed's mandatory? An unusual and entertaining talent, but the jingos do seem to put him on too high a pedestal.
