I'm guessing u got all u wanted plus a lil bonus when ole Bernie was dumped arse over elbow onto the concrete floor like some cheap $10 Philly who're on a Friday night. The greatest defensive fighter of his era.

Seriously it was a horrific end to a legends career,berries two years out at 52 aged him but it was still dead even.if the ropes hadn't been loose and he didn't fall out he woulda survived.

Bernard Hopkins is one of my favourite characters in boxing - and one of my favourite fighters. I love him - he’s a legend, he is smart - he upsets the odds, he duffs up young guns etc....great, great example and testament to leading a clean lifestyle (healthy etc.....I’ve no idea what he gets up to in his free time - actually yes I do - they say he is never out the gym.......

And yet for all of that, in his fight with Calzaghe I distinctly remember that he tried to cheat, he stank the joint out and he disgusted me so I should not like him - but I do. The good outweighs the bad.......I know Hopkins beat ODLH twice (I think....) Did he ever have a fight with Shane Moseley?? I don’t remember.

I’ve just seen the shocking ending. That looked like a nasty fall

I’m glad the “young lad” had belief. I hate it when people get written off. Oh......so and so is 20-3 so therefore he’s bound to get beat by this ageing legend. Boll*cks to that.

I think he only fought DLH once. It was rather dull (like a gentle sparring match) til Hopkins stopped him with a body shot about halfway through. I watch it at a bbq in Fort Lauderdale. I think it was the winter of 2004/5. I suppose I could look on the database here

Oscar went down like a sack of spuds when Hopkins got him to the body, as you rightly say. He chopped him up like DeMarcus Chop Chop Corley......I’m sure Hopkins done him twice........

Didn’t Floridian Southpaw Winky Wright “do” Hopkins as well, or am I thinking of Randy Turpin and Dick Tiger?

He was one of my favourites until he outstayed his welcome versus Taylor and Winky (terrible fights). He lured Winky up to a fleshy catchweight contest in a dull fight in which both showed their deficiencies in terms of good offensive fighting. He was masterful vs Tarver and then Pavlik but with the latter fight I was desperately disappointed with Pavlik.

Very disappointing his tenth round "performance" against Calzaghe, his trickery getting the referee on his side and distracting Calzaghe enough to make it a close fight. Although that was never, ever going to be an attractive fight.

With Stevenson v Kovalev not happening boxing lost a potentially great offensive fight. Hopefully Stevenson v Smith could be that fight.

mills lane pushed Hopkins out the ring and he was unable to continue in a fight he was losing, the first foul fest with Robbie Allen. Lane, accustomed to separating the likes of Holyfield v Bowe, pushed the skinny middleweight too hard. He avenged it, twice, once impressively and once in one of those "worst fight of all time" candidates. But some feel Hopkins quit that first fight with Allen.

I know I will get hate for this comment on here but I had him beating Calzaghe. Even if I watched that fight 100 times I would say the same thing.

He exposed Calzaghes style which sent Joe running to retirement rather than a multi million pound rematch in Caediff. Bernard showed that if u tie up one of Joes hands on the inside he cant do any of his two handed flurries which were 90% of his arsenal at the end. Bernard won the first six rounds easily. He did fade but the cleaner rounds and work was all bernards the first 6. Now as a white man I didn't like his comment about "not losing to a white man" but I think far too many on here use that to deny Calzaghe got beaten fair and square
