Conor might be the bigger draw right now.cletomex wrote:What is the more impressive feat........a guy with a 0-0 record making $25M or a guy making $100M to fight an opponent with a 0-0 record?
Errr, wait, just read it is estimated Floyd will make 100M and Conor 75M. If that's the case, Conor clearly did the better negotiating.
I know you know mma. What are the chances of may weather getting a knockout? Say after 6 rounds? I've seen Conor fight a coupe of times. He has his chin way up in the air, which I think makes him able to kick better but that's a huge boxing no no.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:No doubt ggg/canelo just lost hundreds of thousands of buys. Sadly, I think Floyd makes way, way more than that.cletomex wrote:What is the more impressive feat........a guy with a 0-0 record making $25M or a guy making $100M to fight an opponent with a 0-0 record?

The number I'm curious about. Is what is UFC getting out of this.JCS wrote:Sadly, I think Floyd makes way, way more than that.cletomex wrote:What is the more impressive feat........a guy with a 0-0 record making $25M or a guy making $100M to fight an opponent with a 0-0 record?

I mean.. I'm hearing/seeing estimates, though they're just estimates, that this fight will get awful close to Pacquiao/Mayweather in terms of finances. Do people think McGregor and UFC's take will be significantly more than Pacquiao's?
I'd be shocked if it was that much.tiny_acres wrote:The number I'm curious about. I bet ey are making at least 40% of McGregor's purse.
They own him like a slave
I think Floyd can get a knockout whenever he wants it. Conor is tough, he won't go out from one punch but the footwork alone could leave him off balance enough for four knockdowns in a minute.lazboy wrote:I know you know mma. Again, the examples are way off the mark. WAY off the mark. Here's the best example that i could come up with. It's like the top Decathlete in the world competing in his best event professionally..say the 110 meter hurdles, against the best 110 meter hurdler 10 years ago. But that hurdler is 40 years old now and clearly not the best hurdler in the world any longer.Chippo wrote:Tennis and badminton are kinda similar too, does that mean a badminton player could train for a few months and give Federer a close game of tennis? But Conor is where he is because of his hands and punching power. In fact, they just showed on ESPN that they measured the power of both punches from tape and Conor throws with more power than Floyd per cubic inch. That means nothing, i know, but it is kind of interesting to me. Conor needs to play dumb in this one and break the rules and make it ugly. He can always say "hey, it was my first fight so how the heck was i supposed to know i wasn't supposed to do that".Ricky_ wrote:
UFC isn't like boxing, the stances and footwork are different because you're defending against takedowns and kicks etc. There's footage if McGregor sparring, his footwork is amatuer level. It takes years to build the intricate skills you need to compete as a professional. This is like a hockey player taking on a top golfer on the basis he hits a small object with a stick.

I'd be marginally interested in Mayweather fighting Lara, the Charlos, or Andrade. But Mayweather vs McGregor is like... the most lopsided sh*tfest imaginable. They should've at least agreed on some hybrid rules that allowed elbows or takedowns (that would immediately result in being stood up, like in sanshou). Seriously, any boxing fan who believes that Mayweather would humiliate Vanes Martirosyan can't possibly think McGregor would do any better. McGregor hasn't even boxed anyone. Why not just Mayweather vs Ja Rule or Macaulay Culkin?
GBP was an employee of Floyd.JeanClaude Van Damme wrote:Is Dana White getting paid by Al Haymon? The UFC is not worth $4 billion. The investment WME made will never pay off. It will take them 20 years at current profit margins just to break even on the investment.
Does GBP still have a piece of the Mayweather pie? Is this an attempt to torpedo his business?
It is being sold as two of the biggest personalities of each sport combating in a boxing setting. Plenty of people are going to watch it. Even intelligent, knowledgeable boxing fans will watch it. As much of a mismatch as this looks, it is a huge event, a historical event. 6 months ago, I was determined this would never happen. Now that it is, I'm sure I'll find myself watching it just because it is such a huge, outlandish, global event. It's going to kill on PPV. And that is precisely why it's been made. McGregor is a smart dude. He knows he has slim to no chance in winning this. But he knows that Floyd brings bigger money than anything the UFC can bring him atm. He is a money man. Anyone who has done a little bit of research on Conor knows that he is a money first guy. He and Mayweather are of the same mindset on this. They both understand that Mayweather is the A side here.Badhusker wrote:Lackeos wrote:I don't really understand why any boxing fan would want to see Mayweather fight such a bad boxer in a match with boxing rules. It is kind of a joke, but lots of morons out there that will pay to see it. I think in part they are selling it as a boxing vs mma match. We all know both have mouths that won't quit, so that will add to the show. McGregor actually thinks he can win this.Who knows, he does have a puncher's chance, and probably will throw a knee or elbow and give up a point or two to get Floyd frustrated...and hurt. It would be hilarious if McGregor wins this legitimately.
No, tennis and badminton example is excellent in this case. Furthermore, I'm 100% sure that McGregor has as much of chances to beat Floyd in boxing as Magnus Carlsen.caldo2025 wrote:Again, the examples are way off the mark. WAY off the mark.
