So the reason Mozart was writing music at the age of five was because ... he got his 10,000 hours in before then. Got it.

Yeah but he probably didn’t write his first truly great piece until he was about 15. Plenty of time to get those 10,000 hours in...

Same with Tiger Woods shooting 48 over 9 holes, aged 3. And

Have you made that up or is that 'fact' out there?
Mozart's dad was a musician and rather keen to promote his son. A lad in my metalwork class had a father who was a welder, his projects often seemed to miraculously improve from one lesson to another.

When someone asked another poster earlier "Have you read the book then?" I assume that they meant the book Bounce, The Myth of Talent?
Its a good book and certainly gets you thinking, worth a read for anyone who finds fit to be an interesting subject. The book does also mention`musicians and sportsmen/women who were classed to be child prodigies. Mozart, Tiger Woods, The Williams Sisters.
Its a good book!

TALENT IS THE EXCUSE LAZY PEOPLE USE FOR NOT SUCCEEDING
You're an idiot. This theory comes round every couple of months and gets laughed out of the room every time.
You are not as naturally as talented at football as Leo Messi.
You are not as naturally talented at boxing at Muhammad Ali.
You are not as naturally talented at snooker as Ronnie O'Sullivan.
You are not as naturally talented at golf as Tiger Woods.
According to your theory, you are as naturally talented as all four of them.
I have not worked as hard as Leo Messi at Football - very few ever have
I have not worked as hard as Muhammad Ali at Boxing - very few ever have
I have not worked as hard as Ronnie O'Sullivan at Snooker - very few ever have
I have not worked as hard as Tiger Woods at Golf - very few ever have
Surely if you have at least 10,000 hours of remaining life and the hard work and dedication to put in you can take your pick of who you want to eclipse on this list.

part of the reason top athletes can put in so much time to their sport is because theyre talented enough in the first place to get the opportunities to focus their time on it. op seemed decent at first but has gotten more laughable and hard to take seriously as thread progressed.

You are amazing....
Remember this.
If you do weights, some people only have to look at a weight to put on muscle, some have to work much harder to gain the same effect.
But gain the same effect they will if they have the determination.
You body responds to its circumstances. If you lift a heavy weight if rips and repairs itself and gets bigger.
Greatness is in everyone - some just have to work harder than others to achieve it.

Here's a question for you as well; who do you think was a harder worker - Phil Neville or Paul Gascoigne?
Another example is George Best

Ronnie is the greatest natural talent in the sport. He was making century breaks as a kid, there are thousands of people who have played snooker for decades that haven't got close to that.

This is the opposite of your original point. Glad you've come round to reality at last
its still complete nonsense though
bodies respond differently so even the weight liftingg example is useless, different bodies have different genetic potential to be improved by weight lifting, the guy's just got it wrong on every level, its painful to read.

He said he’d done a ‘bit of research’ though, so who are we to argue

..I have a feeling we had this discussion before..anyway, let's not kid ourselves hoping that as long as we try hard we can achieve anything we want..you want be an elite ANYTHING, you should have a lot of talent ..(unless your goals are, no offence meant, let's say to be the best janitor in the area), hard work being part and parcel of it and a lot of luck..
