As I said on another thread the demand for tickets isn’t purely down to Till. The UFC near always sells well in the U.K. (usually at least 15k at the O2/Manchester Arena) regardless of the main event plus it’s the first time they’ve come to Liverpool. There are a lot people (myself included) who just go to every card whenever the UFC comes over. Given the Echo is only set up for 9k, even if Till wasn’t on the card I’d have expected it to sell out quickly.

Gotta agree with you about it selling out regardless of who is on the card,a few years ago they were going to come to liverpool or nottingham,think it was around the time they had paul kelly mark scano terry etim and paul taylor from liverpool fighting in the ufc(cant remember anyone else from liverpool). Terry had just come back and smashed someone in 18 seconds so there was loads of hype around him then they threw him on a card in Brazil against edson barboza and terry just didnt look himself. Perhaps there simply are more MMA fans, or perhaps its a question of supply and demand - reduce the supply and increase the demand. There are many more boxing shows at all levels relative to MMA shows so it could simply be a reflection of that. It could also be that boxing fans are a little more followers of particular boxers rather than the sport as a whole so whereas the lineup directly affects the ticket sales, MMA and more specifically UFC shows sell almost regardless of who is appearing?

Could be to do with tv,if bellew, the smiths, price,dodd wasnt on sky or any other tv station would more ppl turn out to watch them live? Most mma cards arnt on tv so if you dont watch it live you will find out the result before its on t.v,as for ufc like a few ppl have said there are fans of ufc in general so ppl from across britain will come to watch it at the echo because its ufc not for any particular fighter

If WWE rolled into town and sold out an arena, noone would say the undertaker is doing it.

From my limited knowledge of UFC, most shows seem to be more about the whole event, whereas boxing is usually geared toward the main event.

MMa is hardly unrestricted fighting either.

In a street fight if some guy goes for a single leg on you, you elbow them on the back of the head or in their back and if it’s going badly consider gouging their eyes out out. Or if they are grabbing at your legs while they on the floor you knee them in the head. None of this is allowed in MMA.

AJ would pummel the back of this guys head as soon as he went for a takedown (if the guy wasn’t ko’ed on his feet first). Not to mention it’s not exactly easy to takedown someone with such a huge size and strength advantage.

Sometimes I question if all these MMA guys have actually been in many street fights - the so called “real fighting” they like to refer to so often. I do like this Darren Till guy though. Hope he does the business against Wonderboy.

All recent England based UFC shows have done c.15k (including arguably the greatest ever Anderson Silva against Bisping and Bisping vs Henderson which was a big rematch and the first time a Brit defended a UFC title) but the resale market didn’t go crazy for them like they did for Till as the supply of tickets was higher.

I think the Till card could have done 20k but not enough to fill up Anfield.

It’s mainly the UFC and the fact that it’s in Liverpool for the first time. The last show at the O2 did 16k tickets with a main event no-one was massively interested in (Werdum v Volkov).

I don’t disagree Mickey - they likely could have filled the MEN.

I went to the show in Glasgow - it was a stronger show than the Liverpool card this weekend and the place was near packed from the first fight to the last. There was a really good atmosphere throughout. For anyone who has a slight interest in the UFC I’d certainly recommend going to a live show.

I know UFC does well anyway, and is popular in Liverpool but Till has a great backstory and it must have helped fighting Wonderboy top of the bill!

Yeah - it would have helped and is a much better main event than the recent one at the O2 but it’s an average card in comparison to the Bisping vs Henderson one from 18 months ago.

If the ufc rolled up with ross pearson main eventin against diego sanchez it wpuld of broke records,you must understand by now that its the brand that sells not the fighters headlining. UFC is a massive organisation and there is only about 10,000 tickets available anyway,people will be coming from across britain to watch THE UFC so its not exactly till breaking records its THE UFC. Wonderboy will beat till anyway i think.

darren till is 6 foot tall and 200lbs (cuts massivly to 170) , not tiny. would beat AJ in a fight more often than not.
