In relation to B/Nation does anyone know what the situation is there, I haven't been a subscriber in years but I'm surprised its still on the Sky EPG without a live fight since 2019 supposedly? Is Frank still involved or who is keeping it on, very strange situation. I believe its part of Premier Sports package.
Yes, I get this with premier sports. Is there room for a revamped b/nation?. Weekly Saturday night small hall promotions?.
I don’t think so. I’d be amazed if 5,000 subscribe to Fight Zone.

Small hall shows are usually filled with prospects vs journeymen with an average main event. I’ve been to quite a few and I could count on one hand the good fights I’ve seen.

People think of small hall shows being Macklin/Moore but in reality that was a great fight on paper and in reality that wasn’t well promoted. If it had FWarren (early 2000s FW anyway) or Eddie promoting then it wouldn’t have been in a leisure centre.

I’d like to see allegedly make more of a play for the overseas fights and/or do a deal with MTK. :maybe:
I just loved the early b/nation concept. You got three weekly shows, a Friday night card, for a ten pound note. Financially, didn't the Rainham steel bloke prop it up?. Getting the boxing news on a Friday, Buncies show, then a live card, happy days!!!.

Yeah - Bill Ives. FW talks now that between them they lost something like £20m on allegedly. I’m sure £19.5m (or more) of that came from Bill.

Agree that allegedly was good but it started off better than the last year or two when FW was still involved. The showed a lot of good US cards but they didn’t actually promote loads of good U.K. ones which is surprising considering how long it was going. Haye/Chisora and BJS/Eubank Jr are the only two that got people talking that I can remember. The occasional good Friday/Saturday show.

My presumption is that without a paying crowd, promoters cannot make decent fights work, financially. Boxers expecting too much money, or decent money at least, and the income from broadcasting doesn't cover. Hence why they're not being made.
It’s a real conundrum isn’t it. Clearly everyone wants their slice of the pie and it’s understandable that fighters don’t wanna jeopardise future earnings by being matched tough and losing. We as fans are probably equally to blame given that we howl and moan at any fight being PPV other than the absolute mega fights but it seems as though boxing can’’t generate the revenue to make quality fights viable without some element of PPV be it a one off payment or a subscription channel.
It’s not like Yarde or Arthur are big draws though. Neither have sold several thousand tickets in the past and they managed to get the first fight away with no fans.

This time they would have had 1,000 fans so c.£50,000 of additional income compared to their first fight.

Promoters need to take responsibility. They shouldn’t be willing to promote fights like this where the fights aren’t likely to be competitive, no-ones heard of the opponent and the narrative is who the fighter will fight next. It happened for the bulk of Joe Calzaghe’s championship reign and there’s a reason he didn’t even draw in Wales until after he beat Lacy.

Broadcasters also need the ability to say no. BT, for example, don’t have loads of boxing on TV so the quality should be consistently good. Saturday’s show would have likely driven poor numbers and they should be saying to Frank that he needs to show fights that people actually want to see. There wasn’t one fight on Saturday that I genuinely wanted to watch and I hadn’t heard of one of the main opponents before they were announced.
I agree with you about the broadcasters - it makes you wonder whether the tail is wagging the dog. The fawning interview with Frank at the end last week singing his praises for bringing us another marvellous card was quite ridiculous. The only fight I enjoyed out of them all was the Archie Sharp fight. Had that been the main support for a Lyndon v Yarde rematch then it would’ve been fair enough to let Frank waffle on about what a good night it had been but it wasn’t and it hadn’t.

Boxing dead since Covid. The driest year of boxing ever. At least UFC have been bringing the fights (Admittedly a different model as fights are easier to make as all are under one banner.) Hesbullah gets more coverage than top boxers.....lol

I'd be concerned right now if I was a pro boxer as to where my next pay packet was coming .
What I don't understand is why put $hite cards on if you are only putting them on every now and then ?

It’s greed and laziness. It usually costs more and takes more time to make a good fight that people want to see over a poor one.

Give me one decent British title fight over any/all of those we saw last Saturday on BT.

People lose interest if there’s hardly any competitive fights. I had Fightzone (£4.99 a month) for a bit and the production, concept, analysis, ect is fight class…. It’s just a shame there’s usually 9/9 mismatches. Therefore I had no choice to cancel; before I did so I wrote something to DHPromotions on here and got loads of tosh back saying tonight there’s a few fights where the winner is unknown. The anticipated bum-smashing then proceeded.
One or two 50/50 fights on any bill and more will watch… therefore tv will pick more up.
Won’t be long before BT get rid of boxing; I can’t imagine their viewing figures are impressive.
Then Queensbury go to channel 5 which will give them a much lower budget and we will get worse fights.
It’s not tv companies that are letting boxing and fans down… it’s those asshole promotors.
Everyone raving about the Top Rank/Sky deal; we saw Stevenson beat a shop assistant and Loma beat down Nakatani, who is tough but a gatekeeper to international fighter, at best.

I agree a lot with what you’re saying but the TV networks need to hold the promoters to account.

They’re ultimately the ones putting the bulk of the money together for the show. In other businesses if you’re not getting value for money then you either look to get out of it or you find a way to improve things. Gone are the days of just having boxing on to drive viewers. You need good well matched fights, at a decent level involving known fighters.

I guess it’s like being a hedge fund manager being a tv company. You give them a budget and in return you expect certain viewing figures and there’s no quality-control per se.
Look at Adam Smith at Sky. He didn’t ever speak out about the shit we been getting served up; he was happy just to get viewing figures.
I guess BT sports have the same ethos; here is 200k to put a show on Saturday prime time and we expect 100k viewing figures, or whatever. We don’t care if it’s 9/9 bumshows as long as we hit target.
Sad state of affairs. Even that bell Adam Smith was pushing, promoting and speaking about Mayweather/Paul like it was a prime Tyson vs prime Lewis.

Btw I only ever used to watch Queensbury on YouTube the next day. I never justified getting BT for the boxing as there was no justification for it.
Last week I got BT as part of upgrade on my phone and watched my live Queensbury show in years but it actually depressed me. Genuinely.

If genuine hardcore fans aren’t interested in watching full shows.. that’s a slippery slope as we are a minority sport with a minority fan base as it is.

Adam Smith came out and criticised Eddie’s show where Cheeseman was well beat by Garcia saying it wasn’t good enough. I think he and Eddie worked closely and I’m sure there was lots of discussion of fights. In fairness the bulk of their shows this year have been good on Sky. Just didn’t like the Chisora/Parker PPV or the undercard to Ritson’s fight. I guess when it became clear that Sky/Matchroom weren’t containing in boxing the quality dropped off.

Adam then did himself no favours with the Mayweather/Paul PPV.

Would agree it was a shocker not good enough from Warren/BT. Hardcore fans are stepping away or following UFC and not putting up with the crap anymore.

The traction for these shows on forums, social media and viewers is really poor now. It's Promoters to blame and lesser extent broadcasters. Obviously sanctioning bodies corruption too.

I remember a few years ago some promoters attitude was many hardcore fans don't pay tickets or for PPV we don't need them. How is that going now!

I thought his son was meant to takeover? I'd be concerned on the long term future of BT sport and Sky in boxing the way things are going.

Sky have virtually nothing left out from the Top Rank stuff in America. Even Ringside was got rid of. BT Sport is up for sale and Sky Sports have been making cuts.

In relation to the Conlan Belfast show, it's not been announced by any UK or Irish broadcaster.

Even though it's on ESPN in America and Sky have top rank link. Pretty clear if Sky don't pick it up they want to avoid or minimise MTK linked shows.

Problem is without MTK, Hearn or Warren there is not much they can show in Brit/Irish boxing.

Wilder
Whyte

The four of them to take each other all on 70s style is what’s needed.

Fair but there's a few competitive fights on the card and Sky have nothing else to show. 10k or so fans too. And Sky have good few subscribers in Ireland too.

Imo if it's good enough for ESPN and Top Rank should be good enough for current Sky, beggars can't be choosers.

If they're waiting for Boxxer or Sauerland to put good cards on Sky they'll be waiting quite a while

Boxxer next card, next month I think only has a final eliminator for the English middleweight title so far.

How can Sky make that work?

I watched McGregor replay last week, I far prefer boxing, UFC can be boring and end very quick but at least the best fight the best regularly, it's one sub/ppv, fights on regularly. No nonsense with promoters, sanctioning bodies. Competitive fights.

When I seen Teddy Atlas a diehard boxing man, now doing UFC coverage on his podcast and was covering the UFC McGregor fight on TV you know it's bad.
