Are UK broadcasters abandoning boxing?
Josh Taylor's undisputed fight not being shown on British TV is surely a wake up call.
Now Hearn has gone to Dazn, Sky are offering very little boxing now with just Joshua and a few Top rank cards and probably a few more freak show exhibitions.
I note now the big undisputed fight this weekend Castano Vs Charlo has no UK broadcaster. Pacquiao Vs Spence next month has no UK broadcaster either. 2 of the biggest American fights this year.
The Conlan Doheny card in Belfast has no UK/Irish broadcaster either, despite being shown on ESPN in America. Very unusual.
I wonder have we now gone full circle from fights available on terrestrial to not even available on big budget operations like Sky, BT, Dazn etc.
I would have expected Sky to get these, previously allegedly would have. As for DAZN it's a shame with their big budget they seem only interested in Matchroom fighters. Will have to offer more to get subscribers

The general consensus is that boxing has had its day.

Agreed,it's just about done now,big fights that don't happen, nothing worth watching, even if you pay for it,that reminds me to cancel DAZN.

Have they shown anything since Canelo? There is almost no content and the upcoming Fight camps aren't much to get excited about. The Dazn boxing show on youtube seems decent mindmaverick23 wrote: ↑13 Jul 2021, 13:35You don’t think DAZN is currently decent value for money?

The Warren card at the weekend was a shambles. Fury not fighting Joshua has damaged the sport here and the Wilder cancellation now, and I'm a Fury supporter.

Re: Are UK broadcasters abandoning boxing?
The Josh Taylor fight not being on a linear TV network was stupid although it potentially makes more sense now that Bob has signed with Sky that he didn’t want it on BT. Also greed though as they wouldn’t have made much money at all from it being on Fite TV. It’s not a PPV fight given the lack of U.K. promotion Taylor’s had in the U.K. and time of fight.peter barlow wrote: ↑13 Jul 2021, 12:18 Josh Taylor's undisputed fight not being shown on British TV is surely a wake up call.

It’s a shame Castano/Charlo isn’t on over here but the only people who’d watch are proper boxing fans. As good as a fight it is, unless it’s available to get fairly cheaply, it wouldn’t be worth it for Sky. It’s not like either have been on U.K. TV loads in the past so few people would be interested. I’m disappointed allegedly aren’t getting any of these shows though as people, for some reason, are still paying for it and I’ve been getting it as part of my BT subs.
I think the Conlan show will be on Sky. Will likely be their first U.K. show I would have thought.
The Castano/Charlo fight would generate very few additional subs for DAZN U.K. so I can understand them not going for it particularly when their goal seems to be being the sole broadcaster of shows worldwide.
It’s a shame they didn’t continue the PBC deal with Channel 5. I enjoyed them having the LSC/Tank fight on there.

In the last couple of weeks they had the JC Martinez show from Mexico which had some really good fights on there and then Friday last week they had a good Golden Boy show on there with Jojo Diaz/Fortuna, Ramirez/Barrera and a really good fight between Tanajara and William Zepeda.peter barlow wrote: ↑13 Jul 2021, 13:48Have they shown anything since Canelo? In relation to B/Nation does anyone know what the situation is there, I haven't been a subscriber in years but I'm surprised its still on the Sky EPG without a live fight since 2019 supposedly? Is Frank still involved or who is keeping it on, very strange situation. I believe its part of Premier Sports package.

From Fight Camp onwards there’s boxing every weekend to just about Xmas - for a few quid I’ll happily pay that.maverick23 wrote: ↑13 Jul 2021, 14:06In the last couple of weeks they had the JC Martinez show from Mexico which had some really good fights on there and then Friday last week they had a good Golden Boy show on there with Jojo Diaz/Fortuna, Ramirez/Barrera and a really good fight between Tanajara and William Zepeda.peter barlow wrote: ↑13 Jul 2021, 13:48Have they shown anything since Canelo? Re: Are UK broadcasters abandoning boxing?
One wonders are/will Sky avoid the Conlan show due to MTK fighters involvement. I do hope not, boxing in Ireland is on its knees North and South due to that stuff. I'm not sure they have the luxury now Hearn left Sky.
Poster on thread suggested Sky may avoid as will be a "Provo fest" at Falls Feile. Again I don't think there will be any issue, at worst perhaps fighters should tone down the Wolfe Tones entrances if Sky have a problem.

Re: Are UK broadcasters abandoning boxing?
It will depend on what “Boxxer” is going to work with - the Sauerlands are signing a few UK fighters now and have 3 more to announce this week - that would suggest they might be one of the new partners.peter barlow wrote: ↑13 Jul 2021, 14:22 One wonders are/will Sky avoid the Conlan show due to MTK fighters involvement. Sky have generally stayed away from MTK link - the Golden Contract was signed with Matchroom as such - with Hearn and FW having big stables it’s hard to see what else they might show. Maybe Super Series events for something different.

Most US cards get announced on fight week.
If they do that is..

Re: Are UK broadcasters abandoning boxing?
There was a point when allegedly and Sky pretty much covered 95% of what was going on at a decent level in the States, Europe and the UK.
And we all still moaned.
Now there's pap like the BT show last Saturday, foreign fights are all over the place with all kind of costs unless you get a dodgy firestick, and Eddie is trying to tell us the game has changed whilst we look forward to Jazz Dickins vs Kid Galahad and Terri Harper vs TBA.
Jesus.

The fight camp shows are good and they’re excellent compared to the U.K. competition like the majority of BT shows this year. Have BT had one fight better than Dickens/Galahad this year?garethhop wrote: ↑13 Jul 2021, 14:34 There was a point when allegedly and Sky pretty much covered 95% of what was going on at a decent level in the States, Europe and the UK.

I’m surprised the Joyce/Takam hasn’t been canned yet - with Fury PPV probably generating cash to have that one before it.maverick23 wrote: ↑13 Jul 2021, 14:39The fight camp shows are good and they’re excellent compared to the U.K. competition like the majority of BT shows this year. On Boxxerr I don't know much about them, 1 Show in past 20 months they have put on. Sauerland seem to be planning 1 WBSS for the next year but its Womens Super Feather. No doubt Sky will be on board but stand alone Womens pro boxing has no real following. Sky pretty much demand it now so they show their corporate wokeness but fans don't care particularly pro level.3132DW wrote: ↑13 Jul 2021, 14:28It will depend on what “Boxxer” is going to work with - the Sauerlands are signing a few UK fighters now and have 3 more to announce this week - that would suggest they might be one of the new partners.peter barlow wrote: ↑13 Jul 2021, 14:22 One wonders are/will Sky avoid the Conlan show due to MTK fighters involvement. I don't believe Sky Boxing can have any sustainable UK audience without MTK, Hearn or Warren. The depth is not there in British boxing.

Boxing fans are right to moan we get mugged off. Most of the moaning years ago was to promoters about the same old story of fights not happening and the best not fighting the best. With UFC now popular, people are voting with their feet and remote control from the dross boxing cards we get.garethhop wrote: ↑13 Jul 2021, 14:34 There was a point when allegedly and Sky pretty much covered 95% of what was going on at a decent level in the States, Europe and the UK.

I aslo feel Sky could duck the Belfast card, no reason its not announced when it is a few weeks away.

Think you've misunderstood my post. It wasn't about wheher FIght Camp is better than BT's output. It's about the hit and miss coverage of boxing and the wide range of channels it's on, plus the general shitness of most of what we are fed.maverick23 wrote: ↑13 Jul 2021, 14:39The fight camp shows are good and they’re excellent compared to the U.K. competition like the majority of BT shows this year. Loads of our better fighters have retired/gone past their peak and there's not much coming through quickly.
Not a good time for British Boxing.

The public know they’re never going to get those golden days back with Benn, Eubank, Watson etc on ITV. That was the peak, near on matching FA cup finals and Grand nationals with viewing figures. But give them something for Christsake.
