He won't need to be they are boxing in the same arena and not at the same time!

It's hardly uncommon for a trainer to have more than one fighter on a bill :brick:
Yeh, there was a time Joe G had all the Smith bro’s on the same card..

I don’t like like either. Not too bothered about Liam. I want Liam to win though.

Liam Smith on Anthony Fowler: I’ll never lose to a domestic fighter

Liam Smith and Anthony Fowler have a big fight coming up on Saturday, Oct. 9, live from Liverpool on DAZN, but one side of the equation maybe doesn’t really see it as a truly “big fight” for his career.

Smith, a former world titlist, didn’t shake hands when the two announced their fight at a press conference, and says plainly that he does not think Fowler is good enough to beat him.

“Beating Anthony Fowler doesn’t get me any closer to fighting for a world title in my career. I don’t say that as if I’m overlooking him,” he said. “Anybody above me isn’t going to look on paper and think, ‘Wow, Liam Smith beat Anthony Fowler in the UK.’ But if you look and it says Fowler beat Smith, then it’s a big statement.

“I’ve never lost to a domestic fighter as a pro. I’ll beat Anthony Fowler; I’ll never lose to a domestic fighter. That’s a good little record to have. I turned pro and I’ve had 30-odd fights and I’ve never lost to a Brit. If I beat Fowler, I’m not going to fight another domestic fighter again, unless it’s a (Chris) Eubank or someone like that.

“I’m confident that I beat Anthony Fowler every day of the week and twice on Sunday. If I turn up at 100% then I beat Anthony Fowler. The way I see the fight going, it’ll be competitive early doors and then experience, cuteness and everything else will come on. I’ll stop him down the straight. “

Smith (29-3-1, 16 KO) is coming off of a very controversial loss on the road in Russia against Magomed Kurbanov, a fight we scored for Smith and many others thought he’d deserved to win, too. Fowler (15-1, 12 KO) has won six in a row since an upset loss to Scott Fitzgerald in 2019, but his opposition has been pretty carefully chosen since then.

“I think he’s a good fighter for four rounds, but he reverts back to what he does,” Smith said of Fowler. “Once it goes past four rounds, the fight is only going one way. I’ll just show him I’m that little bit of a step ahead and he wasn’t ready for that step up just yet.

“I’ve been in with bigger punches, better fighters, I’ve been in local derbies with my brothers, he’s got a lot to deal with next week. We’ll have fun in the build-up when he’s back in Liverpool. We’ll have some fun and games.”

Smith's got to be the favourite here and I fancy him to win on points but we've seen it before when a guy like Fowler can pull out a performance and come of age, the styles gel nicely, I'd imagine Fowler will try to box Smith and Smith will try drag him into a bit of a war but Fowler can fight aggressively too so I'm hoping for a good scrap

Smith seems very confident, and while I agree he should, that is prob good news for Fowler.

Fowler will have a professional full time training camp, he will be hungry and he certainly isn't just turning up for the payday.

Smith himself will need to be 100% professional and put a performance in.

Always seems arrogant to me , but sometimes being a bit brash and confident can come over that way , away from the cameras he probably a decent fella , unless there's something else ??
Pales into insignificance compered to the likes of Hamed etc , etc .

For me:
The attitude
The showboating

I don't have beef with him personally, it's just the showing off rubs me up the wrong way. If you can dance around your opponent and pick them off at will, then bloody well finish it and move on! :witzend:

He's a nice bloke. Probably jealousy because of his uncle or him making a few quid out of crappy oil.

Press Release | Kieron Conway Feels He Will Be Too Big, Too Strong For James Metcalf

Kieron Conway says he will be too big and too strong for James Metcalf when they clash in a must-win Super-Welterweight showdown this Saturday October 9 at the sold-out M&S Bank Arena Liverpool, live worldwide on DAZN.

Both men will be hoping to return to winning ways after suffering losses in their last fights - Conway at the hands of Frenchman Souleymane Cissokho on the huge Canelo vs. Saunders card in Texas and Metcalf at the hands of Ted Cheeseman in a brilliant British Title clash in Gibraltar.

'Too Class' (16-2-1, 3 KOs), who fought to a draw with Cheeseman when they met at Bethnal Green's York Hall back in June 2019, wasn't overawed when he stepped out to box in front of 70,000 fans at the AT&T Stadium and is relishing facing Liverpudlian Metcalf on away territory.

“He likes to move his feet in and out and side to side," said Conway. "He’ll try to make it hard for me. Those things aren’t going to matter. We’ve all been hit hard, and I’ve been hit harder than James Metcalf can hit. I’m going to be ready for anything that he throws at me.

"I’m a big guy for the weight and he’s a small guy. He should be a weight below. Physical attributes are going to play a big part in this fight from the get-go. My boxing skills, knowledge and experience is going to come in to play as the fight goes on.

"I can see a stoppage happening around midway. I’m going to hit him a lot of times. I see me taking centre of the ring and him trying to push me back. I’ll do whatever I’ve got to do, not necessarily pushing him back, but I’ll take the centre of the ring and I’ll keep it.

"He’ll try and rough up, make it a mess, swing and try to knock me out. At the end of the day, his only chance is to knock me out. JJ’s fight with Ted Cheeseman was an outstanding fight, but you don’t need to be in those fights, especially when you’re getting on a bit in your career.

“I’m not sure who has more pressure on their shoulders. I do know that there’s pressure on me to win this fight. It’s not affecting me, because what will be will be. What will be is a Kieron Conway win. British level isn’t all that Conway will be, and I’m ready to prove that now."

Smith on points in a tough encounter. Where does he go after that, Tszyu down under ?

There seems to be a lot of excitement about an undercard fight on Twitter, Willis/Charlton …..

Willis/Charlton will be a tasty fight. Good style match up I think and both coming to win.

Also like the Dacres/Sokolowski fight - Sokolowski’s had notice and deserved the win against Adeleye. I rate Dacres much higher than Adeleye but not sure if he can take a shot.

Both fights aren’t even on the main card I didn’t think. Will be on YouTube I guess.

Another crap running order. These women's fights get too much prominence.

Charlton Wilis and Dacre Soliwowski should be on there.
