Why group Kovalev and GGG together? Most agree GGG clearly beat Canelo in the first fight and got robbed, while the second fight was close and could have gone either way.

Good chance Kessler would have beaten Canelo too - he would certainly clean up today's SMW division. Froch-Kessler 1 was a close fight that could have gone either way - both great, prime super middleweights.

Imagine Froch’s right hand landing every time Plant’s did.

Just like he beat Calzaghe.

Calzaghe is a top 3 all-time super middleweight who would likely have schooled Canelo worse than he did Kessler.

True. Kessler would beat Badou Jack, Groves, DeGale, Abraham and Bute too.

Prime Calzaghe, RJJ and Ward would make gingerbread from this version of Canelo.

And just since I don't think I've seen anyone mention it before, I think BHop would beat Canelo at every weight they've both fought at.

In his prime, he wasn't even in Canelo's galaxy. Not even the best fighter around his time/weight, Andre Ward, is close to Canelo's resume. Someone seriously needs to give this guy a clue. His resume is god-awful from a historical perspective. And no, he wouldn't even beat Saunders, let alone Canelo. 100%, Saunders would've cleaned out 168 when Ward moved up and it was mainly Froch and Groves.

Yeah this is a good way to sum it up. I’m as big a fan of the Cobra as anybody, but his wins usually came down to landing a well timed big right hand or getting a good shot in late. The Groves and Taylor fights (his biggest wins) are good examples. He would not be able to land such a shot on Canelo late in the fight.

Let's calm down here.

At 168, Canelo has done nowhere near enough to suggest he would have beaten Froch with ease.

True but let's see how Canelo does vs Bivol, Beterbiev, Joe Smith and Makabu. If he does beat them fair&square then we could assume that Canelo would be competitive vs S6 guys, RJJ or Calzaghe.

It doesn't look to me like he has any intention of fighting Bivol, Beterbiev, or Joe Smith.

..of course there's no way of knowing but I tend to agree with Froch provided Canelo ist clean and venue neutral..

Jimmy McDonnell, man, I don’t think that’s super fair. Canelo beat every belt holder at 168. Froch had an awesome and fun career but let’s be honest did he beat anybody that you think Canelo couldn’t have handled just as easily?

I know we’re comparing apples to oranges here, but I’m not sure Froch could’ve beaten Callum Smith or Billy Joe. Smith would have been a formidable opponent for Froch, and BJS’s style is a really tough matchup for the Cobra.

The more styles you face at a given weight, the more problems you encounter.

Canelo struggled with GGG, and he wasn't a 168 pound fighter.

I would have fancied Froch to beat Smith and Saunders, Saunders might have been trickier, but he would have been running like a thief all night, - who in hell has Saunders ever beaten at 168?

I think Canelo is being rather overrated at 168, just not enough of a body of work.

Taylor would have been a tricky one, at either 160 or 168, people write Taylor off now, but he was a great boxer, and had some very good physical gifts, he was somewhat on the slide, by the time he got to Froch, but he still had great boxing skills.

Johnson, - too one dimensional, but he'd have given Canelo 12 hard paced rounds for certain, as he was rock hard.

Groves, yeah, never quite sure how to rate groves, had a serious dig, could box, but not sure how great he really was, though he certainly handled Eubank Jr with ease.

Bute, looked a million dollars until Froch spiked his career. Good call.

Pascal, good fighter, and went on to do good things at 175 too, a very aggressive fighter, and Froch went to war with him and won.
