Most amatures are professional athletes though though... And I'm sure is the case for many amature boxing programs.
Team GB boxers get everything paid for, plus can make 30,000 pounds a year. When you take out expenses 30,000 quid is more than most pro boxers make a year. So "amature is bullshit".
It's too hard to police amature or not, hence why I support an age restriction. Bullshit that your country or how rich your family is should determine how much you get to train.

The Amateur game has always been a racket, worse than the pros really as at least pro fighters get paid.
If there is no Olympics, more fighters will go pro, maybe not a bad thing and the AIBA only has itself to blame

Happened with my mate, he was that well paid, including loads of foreign travel that he didn’t turn over till he was 30 odds. Made much much more as am amateur over all he said.

Boxing used to right there with swimming, track, and gymnastics as the major sports of the summer Olympics. The interest in it has been declining for many years, and is nowhere near being one of the major sports.
If it isn't in the Olympics in in 2028, it will be a big setback for the sport.

It’s the rampant corruption not the lack of interest.

I thought the judging was top knotch in the last Olympics. I saw about 90-95% of the bouts and there were maybe two decisions that were only marginally iffy. Both were in group 1.
They had the threat of being cancelled in the following Olympics if something wasn't done, and I can say that it was the best judging I've seen since I was a club fighter watching the LA Olympics way back when..
It will be a great shame, because I feel they made a change for the better last time out.

It’s definitely tragic. Absolutely no good will come from it for boxing.

True, it is the largest world audience any amateur fighter is going to get.
Imagine a guy like Luke Campbell without his medal. He would have maybe earned 1/4 of what he did, and had a lot less chances.

Judging in Tokyo was handled by a working party with no involvement by AIBA. A sticking plaster applied by the IOC that will fall off before LA.

The only way boxing is going to survive after 2024 is to dissolve the IBA and replace it with a new organization.
The IBA has been taking the micky out of amateur boxing for decades now.

Rampant corruption might be the reason it could be dropped.
But the sport is nowhere near as popular as it used to be. If it was still that popular, the corruption would be overlooked.

Corruption is the reason.
