I much prefer the Lewis era, but that’s probably an age thing on my part. But it’s a serious question as to whether Fury really has the right mindset of a champion. Would he for instance have maintained a decent reign in the peak Klitschko era? Wlad and Vitali are pretty smart and tenacious fighters. They’d have kept coming for him and maybe pinpointed the weak spots.

Fury would give a lesson to the Big Klit as well.

Fury might have done okay against some of the shorter fighters from better era’s, but the likes of Bowe and Lewis would have certainly embarrassed him.

I think it would be a bit daft to bring Fury’s name into any GOAT debate. He clearly doesn’t have attributes that you can call great, in the context of boxing history.

Fury is a very tall man who has enough skill and fitness to make his size work for him in what is undoubtedly a poor era for heavyweights. That’s not greatness.

I think Bowe is the worst possible matchup for Fury. He's better on the inside, has the heart of a lion, recuperates very quickly from being hurt and will not stop coming at you. He's got a very high pedigree and when he was in his prime with Futch in his corner he was a very dangerous operator indeed.

Great thread !

Sure to cause some good arguments, because it's so hard to tell with HWs because of the size-increase-thing. I'm certain that Joe Frazier (say) was better than Fury, but it's hard to give him much of a chance with Fury when he couldn't handle the size of Foreman.

Tyson decisions his namesake to take Iron Mike's place in the All-Time Top 10 ? :maybe:

He'd do a number of any heavyweight in history with the possible exception of Vitali and Lewis.

He's bigger and heavier than any boxer in any other generation--fact. Yet is fast and elusive.
Plus he knows how to use his size well--especially against smaller fighters. Little men like Ali wouldn't stand a chance.

There’s a test there isn’t there. Usyk is one of those ‘little men’ who probably wouldn’t try to brag about being any better than Ali or Holmes. Can Fury actually beat him? I personally think Mike Tyson looked 10 times more dynamic a puncher than Daniel Dubois. You can’t overlook other generations so easily in boxing.

It will be interesting to see how the fight with Usyk goes.

One thing I will say for Fury, is he has a good fight IQ, I expect him to try and use his size and weight to hold, maul and roughouse Usyk whenever he gets into range, and to potshot with the jab and right cross.

He's goint to have a massive size and weight advantage, although it was notable that Usyk didn't really look undersized against Joshua, though Fury is a much naturally bigger man than Joshua, who is pumped up with weights, and actually looks naturally fairly slim. Fury is a right big old lump./

Fury v Usyk is a bloody brilliant fight.

I am really looking forward to that fight being made.

His frame is considerable smaller than Fury's.

Trying to find some reliable stats - one of them says Fury is a 44 inch chest - which seems impossible, I'm a 42 and I'm tiny compared to Fury.,

I guess, Fury won't box Usyk, he'll overwhelm him. Usyk has always looked uncomfortable under the rough onslaught, while Fury can impose such game more convincingly than any other fighter.

I have always been tough on Tyson and have never given him any credit, but, even with that said I honestly feel Joshua has faced tougher opponents l.

Fury (supposedly) is retiring too early.

Love ya Spuddy but who are these tougher opponents that Joshua has faced?

Usyk you can argue at best, but I feel he needs another top heavyweight on his curriculum vitae before he’s considered at Fury’s level.

Witherspoon, Del and AJ x2 is good going; it’s not a tremendous heavyweight career if it stopped there.

Pre peds holy was far better imo but then again Qawi reckoned he was on something when he fought him so who knows.

I’ve took all sorts of gear myself and been very strong and tbh I fight a lot better and hit harder smaller and leaner. Not be the same for everyone but it is for me.

i can see that,i never did the peds my selfs , but i lift weights so i do emember bulking up from 12 st to 15 in 3 months getting shin splinters, knees going breathing chest feeling heavy when shadow boxing but on 5000 cals a day you have great energy plus you can move weight around easy overheadpressing as well , plus and minus i guess
