So are there any plans for Amir to face the kid that many believe was the real reason he pulled out of the ABA's in Gorleston, now he has turned pro?

He has only had one pro fight, I can't see there being any short term plans for a fight between the two.

i like amir khan i really enjoyed his amateur career but the hype takes us for fools. in retrospect it was a mugs idea for amir to "avenge" his loss to kindelan. we have had to wade thru shite ever since that circus act.
amir is good enough to win a version of a world title but beyond that....nahh

Why not slate Kevin Mitchell weve all heard him talkin his fair share of crap too, what about Harrison....I dont know where to start there!

I think Khan will eventually lose but not to Thaxton!

C'mon fellas Amir's a good kid, lets support him :TU:
I personally didn't like Hamed not because his family was from Yemen but because of the way he treated Steve Robinson upto, during and after their fight. There was no need for it in my opinion.

I think Khan will never be able to beat the World's Best around his weight...

Thaxton would be a real danger for him, and if what he showed against Limond is what happens to him when hit and dragged into the trenches Khan is going to be up against it, especially with his ambitious route to glory...

I always support British Boxing - I'm proud to be a supporter of it, i'd even route for Khan if he made on the World stage (even if he annoys me, which he does) but I struggle to see him succeeding at top level.

If Khan hasn't got the goods at lightweight, John Murray could well have what it takes. Murray isn't always exciting but he's always working on some technical thing in his fights & seems to have a better framework to do evrything from.

Khan Khannot hide any longer! :o

Why do people think he has to be 21 for the British title when guys like Rhodes won his at 20 and Hamed won the EBU at 20 as well.

Interesting, very interesting.

Puts Khan in rather a corner doesn't it? If he wants to avoid Thaxton (not saying he does) he would have to relinquish his title, which after all the big talk would make him look very foolish indeed.

He will always vacate and go for the WBU title... something being fought for (I believe) tommorrow.

Khan has a shaky jaw but he'll probably have the nuts to fight Thaxton. After all the hype too, his pride might prevent him from vacating.

When they say 21 aren't they talking about World Titles?

I always thought you had to be 20 and one day or more to fight for the British title?

look fella, dont jump down my throat, I say it as I see it. Ive been on this board for many years and I never stir up any trouble, so please dont preach to me about racism as Ive been through it and would not like my worst enemy to go thru what Ive been thru.
My post is not in the least racist, read it again and I would invite any mod to read it and put me right.

This is a boxing forum and Im talking about Amir Khan and why so many UK fans diss him. Isnt he allowed his share of the cake and eat it especially after whats he's accoplished so far.

I support all our UK fighter prospects no matter what background and I think we all should!
I say it as I see it too --- and Ive not come across a racist post on this section. Not one. The best conversation on here is in British Scene.

I know your post was not racist, but if you are in search of it, as I said, you are probably looking in the wrong place.

And if you think that was preaching, you obviously mix with very taciturn people. You don't need to talk to an Irishman about the evils of prejudice, I assure you.

I support British Fighters too, but ask me who I want to do better - Danny Williams or Amir Khan? Both Muslims, but very different people. I support anyone who gets in there and gives it a good go, but I reserve the right to lessen that support for the overbearingly smug.

I don't want to get off on the wrong foot with you - you might have been registered for a few years, but I've not come across you before, as far as I know - I just thought the post was an unwarranted criticism of the nicest group of people on here.

That is the situation exactly - I think he has no choice but to face Thaxton and if he doesnt, what excuse can he come up with - If Thaxton blasts Stewart out, and I have a feeling he will, I can see Khan being a very worried young man - I have always said Jon Thaxton is the one man Khan must avoid because I just know Jon would beat him - Murray maybe Thaxton no way - Maybe FW will step in and say "I have advised Amir to relinquish his belt because he is not ready just yet to face Thaxton" - Khan could then say he has taken the advice of his promoter - It would go down about as well as a cup of cold sick but Khan would live to fight another day.

I thought you had to be 21 to fight for Briticsh title?

On a sligfhtly different note he invested 700K of his own money into a boxing gym in Bolton according to Times sports:

On another slightly different note, the Times today reported that Khan had some difficulties making 135 for the first time. Obviously he's not exactly killing himself, but he's obviously growing and filling out, and I think title-wise he's going to be at 140 sooner rather than later. That's going to mean Lynes, and especially Rees, if he can keep the title for a while.

You, my friend, might be the sort of person beloved by his mother. But in the contest of this discussion, you show yourself to be a complete and utter moron. Boxing can only thrive through the oxygen of publicity. Ricky is heading for a tough fight which he will probably lose. Joe should win, but he's 35 so how many more big nights? Junior, good though he is, does not sell tickets or excite newspaper editors. And Froch moves forward by fighting a has-been in Robin Reid. Enzo Maccarinelli has some currency, as does David Haye, but the fight boxing needs involves one against the other. And then there is Gavin Rees, Clinton Woods.... Khan gets and audience and media coverage, rightly or wrongly, which transcends the boundaries of the sport as laid down by anoraks like us who follow its minutiae. He is box office, and fights against the likes of Jon Thaxton and Graham Earl, and even tonight's against Scott Lawton, will prove that. His last fight drew a five million tv audience, the biggest for boxing since eight million watched the first Williams-Harrison battle, and it would be a surprise if today's was significantly less. Maybe you don't like him. But boxing, trust me, does not need to see the lad sparked. It needs all the glitter nights it can get.

Thaxton is a wonderful old pro and he had that great night vs Meager. It was spellbinding. I always root for Jono. How can you not? He fights hard and he's always honest in the post fight interviews - even admitting he needed to KO Stewart which btw was a very good bout last night. But does anyone think Khan will be too tall and too quick handed, if Thaxton can't land a bomb? Twice in a row Thaxton has had fits with taller opponents and his way of fighting like the challenger, while showing huge resolve and determination, actually allows opponents to impose their skills on him until he chops 'em down. Khan would have to be considered more promising than Meager and Stewart - 2 very tough lads admittedly - with his Olympic pedigree and raw talent. I think he faces Thaxton after he beats Lawton tonight.

it was always on the cards that khan's physique would mean a career at 140. its working out well for him; learn as much as you can against lighter guys then move up - perfect!
i'm not sure that its boxings saving grace that khan doesnt get sparked, because although the glitz and glamour does bring in the fringe punters we cannot and would not want the bling to prevent the better fighters (often not charismatic fellas) getting on in our sport.
i'm rubbing my hands at the prospect of khan/thaxton

Jono's hooks where nearly as bad as Buster Keeton's. :o

As long as he doesn't land on Khan too much or the Limond KD was a fluke then Khan won't have a hard time with him.

I want Khan to do well he is one of the best prospects we have and thats partly because of his age and partly because of his marketability. I respect Thaxton and hope he gets a big bag of money for fighting Khan and hopefuly gives him a good match and gets on more good cards becuase of it however I want to see Amir do well he opens the sport up to others who wouldn't normaly follow it both the olympic crowd and the british asian community who were suspicouse of Hamed because of perseved Arab Chevanism. However I wish he wouldn't call out people he isn't willing to fight.
