I can't believe he's preparing for world class by taking on Gomez, and then Meager or Murray? A fornicating joke.

He's going backwards. I'm not judging Murray on the Hamidi performance because he's a decent fighter but let's be serious, he's not at Khan's level. Completely pointless match-up, and if Khan looks anything other than devastating against him or Meager we'll go through all of this again.

Time to step up........Euro title.

murray's form has been rubbish the last few fights.

Murray eyes Khan chance

THE prize awaiting next month's all-Manchester British title showdown is to be first in line for the next pop at Amir Khan.

And trainer Joe Gallagher, has already fired the opening shots on behalf of his fighter John Murray by saying of Khan's world title ambitions: "He's not even proved he is the best lightweight in Greater Manchester yet!"

Levenshulme fighter Murray takes on Salford-born Lee Meager in Wigan on July 11 and the winner would be the natural choice as opponent for Khan's next fight on September 6.

Khan had some tricky moments before stopping another Manchester fighter, Michael Gomez, on Saturday.

And Gallagher believes that if Gomez had been allowed to wear Reyes gloves, as he wanted, that the Manchester man would have brought an abrupt end to Khan's unbeaten run.

Reyes gloves are known as the "puncher's gloves" as they have less padding.

Flaws

Now he wants to see his man have a shot at Khan, saying it would sell out the Manchester Evening News Arena, one of the potential venues for Khan's September fight, which will share top billing with Alex Arthur's first WBO super-featherweight title defence.

Gallagher said: "allegedly is very good at picking the right opponent at the right time but, on the back of John's last few performances, Khan looks beatable."

The flaws exposed by Gomez backed up Khan promoter Warren's assertion that Khan needed time and experience before thinking about moving into world class.

But there are few domestic fights left for Khan, without taking a step backwards and the winner of the vacant British title has a strong case - it would also give Khan the chance to win a coveted Lonsdale Belt.

Gomez has already warned Khan to steer clear of Murray, who has pursued a clash with the Bolton hero ever since he turned pro in 2005.

After their fight, he spoke of Khan as "a world-class fighter with world-class vulnerabilities".

He went on: "The vulnerabilities are unbelievable. Someone like John Murray, who is a massive lightweight and a massive puncher, if he hits him, he might go."

The venue for Khan's next fight has yet to be decided, with Meadowbank Sports Arena in Edinburgh the favourite, and Manchester Evening News Arena still a possibility.

And if Murray comes through against Meager unscathed in Wigan on July 11, he would be an obvious choice as Khan's next opponent.

He also gets stick because he has been put down fairly easily. Credit to Murray, he looked awful versus Hamidi but took flush shots the likes of which Khan seems unable to take.

I would be confident if it came off. Murray needs to look exceptionally poor in his coming fights, whilst still winning, in order for it to happen.

Khan got mixed up he sparred Steve Murray I think it was and thought that was who was calling him out.

We saw what Hamidi did to Murray, no way in a million years he beats Khan. Khan beats him to the punch and counters him easily. Even if and when Murray lands he doesn't have a dramatic equaliser. Whos Murray been in of the calibre of Limmond, Gomez, Earl?

BTW comparing Hamidis power to Gomez is a bit off, especially as Gomez put Hamidi away. ANyway I see Khans chin as getting underrated he won every miniute against Gomez minus a flash KD and I was cheering for Gomez to pull the upset

I hope the fight is on although I suspect much will depend on how (bad) he looks against Meger, if he comes through and looks shit then he'll be more likely to get the fight I suspect. If he wins by KO no chance.

Khan will blow Murray away imo.
